@Babyhustwabtstodance it was Snapchat where the messages conveniently disappear.

Now it sort of makes sense that a 19 year old whose main ambition was early marriage felt some resonance in the story of a "quiet woman who bagged a star". There's a whole tradition of canine women making good beards.

What does canine women mean?

8roses · 27/05/2023 11:27

@Babyhustwabtstodance I haven’t seen the Twitter messages - anyone with an ounce of safeguarding knowledge knows that adults shouldn’t put themselves at risk by corresponding with children - why would you? It’s not worth the risk - unless you can’t help yourself for some reason. I quite liked Philip (although I don’t watch anything he’s in as not my kind of thing). I fear there is more to come out and it’s so disappointing

Hmm. It was meant to be "naive". Weird autocorrect decision there. Grin

HoldingTheDoor · 27/05/2023 11:28

Thank you! I genuinely couldn't work it out.

Livelovebehappy · 27/05/2023 11:29

But cant you see that many posters are in agreement that his TV career would have not been ended for this alone? Its pretty obvious that there are other far less palatable stuff to come. He's clearly getting in there first to give his version of events before all the other far more damaging stuff surfaces. And it 100% will....

In response to Dancingbear

No, I’m suggesting that gay people should be treated the same as straight people in the same circumstances.

you are suggesting that gay people are a ‘sacred caste’ that can get away with stuff. When the truth is that they have been horribly persecuted for decades

Nobody's denying the fact that gay people have been unfairly treated in the past, but PS has benefited from privileged treatment that wouldn't be afforded to straight people. If he'd left his wife for another woman, he wouldn't have been called brave, but rather something else with the same initial letter.

BordoisAgain · 27/05/2023 11:37

Romeiswheretheheartis · 27/05/2023 11:13

Hardly acceptable or respectable just because he chose to wait till the 13 year old turned 16 before making his moves and deciding it's ok because its legal.

We only have PS's word that he 'waited till he was 16'. Given he's spent the last couple of decades lying left, right and centre, I wouldn't be believing anything he says now.

Yeah, Rolf Harris tried that defence too.

And for those wanging on about homophobia, Harris tried to claim his grooming and abuse of a young girl was actually a consensual affair and nothing illegal happened too.

Not what I'm talking about or what most people here are talking about.

I'm talking about the Twitter messages which have been widely publicised. And many people are using as evidence of grooming.

That's the basis of what most people are saying is evidence of grooming an underage person- Twitter posts.

I've not heard a thing about Snapchat posts.

I'm not arguing that PS may not have been predatory, I was responding to the claims he was communicating privately via SM when much of the basis of the current allegations of grooming ARE based on public SM posts.

Someone on this thread did not like me posting that the children of millionaires should have the same safeguarding as the children of theatre school teachers etc.

That's not what I'm arguing. I was rebutting the claim that he was engaging in private SM chats with underage persons and nothing was public.

When the core of the allegations of grooming ARE based on public SM posts.

Anthea Turner was dumped from prime time tv because of a scandal involving a chocolate bar at her wedding.

Even leaving aside the ethics of what Schofield did, TV presenters are given the boot all the time. It is not a job for life.

8roses · 27/05/2023 11:52

Time will tell. If the young man
or men concerned still have their devices then any data on them can be forensically downloaded OR there may be screen shots of course. Snap chat used to be virtually impossible to recover but technology may have moved on. Even deleted data can be recovered. This can be paid for privately- doesn’t need the police

Also, the very cynically timed coming out stopped this story dead in its tracks for 3 years.

Schofield was able to hide behind his sexuality because people were worried that they would be labelled homophobic if they raised concerns.

Another good example of this was a man who worked for the NSPCC. He uploaded pictures of himself in fetish gear, some vidoes 'on work trips' of him wanking etc. All of this (explicit pictures and his employment) was really easy to piece together through his social media. But when people raised concerns the NSPCCs initial reaction was to label people homophobic.

I think this is what people mean when they talk about sacred caste, that no one should be beyond normal scrutiny just because of their sexuality, or race, or religion or sex or wealth etc.
