Is lying to the Daily Mail about your personal life such a terrible thing?

No, but lying to your lawyer and your PR firm says everything.

What does it say? That he was frightened that this relationship - a mistake many people have made since time began - would end his career?
I’m not sure it says anything else.
Unless you’re suggesting that he is a paedophile?

No, I’m suggesting that gay people should be treated the same as straight people in the same circumstances.

you are suggesting that gay people are a ‘sacred caste’ that can get away with stuff. When the truth is that they have been horribly persecuted for decades

I placed 🌈 people alongside the Royal family, your strawman is silly.

I find you trying to use very historical events that don't fit today as strange.

Truth is no group of individual is a safeguarding sacred caste and it is a safeguarding concern when someone tries to make it so.

There are nine protected characteristics in the equality act, I only know what the flag of one group looks like.

lemonaddde · 27/05/2023 06:52

The issue for me is that this 'younger male colleague' was influenced by Phil from being a child. Phil obviously took an interest in this child from a young age, was a patron of his theatre group, used his power to get him a job on a huge TV show. Then what? They suddenly out of nowhere embarked on an 'unwise but not illegal affair'.

It stinks of grooming and predatory behaviour and that is the issue. Nothing to do with being gay.

If it was a 61 year old bloke and a teenage girl. A 61 year old woman and a teenage boy. A 61 year old woman and a teenage girl. All wrong.

A responsible and genuine adult would keep their distance from a young person they had been involved with from childhood.

Again, suggesting gay people are a ‘sacred caste’ when all the evidence suggests otherwise is massively homophonic.

Are you seriously suggesting that gay people get preferential treatment over straight? Where is your evidence?

Do you regularly use Stawmen to ensure safeguarding is not taken seriously against all individuals and groups?

Phillips career started in childhood TV. For those unaware there were no specific children TV channels, we had 4 channels and child's TV for a few hours after school until the six o'clock news and a few hours on Saturday morning. Phillip introduced the after school TV on the BBC, then later the Saturday morning show.

PrimalOwl · 27/05/2023 07:03

thedancingbear the point is Phil abused his power, the imbalance was there at the start, he knew this boy from childhood. I suspect there's an element of grooming from the start. Just because his gay doesn't take from that. The fact he came out because it was going to coming out and was praised for being brave is disgusting and an insult to those genuine men who take the courage to come out. If it had been a young girl he had an 'affair' there would be utter outrage he can't hide behind his sexuality anymore.

PrimalOwl · 27/05/2023 07:04

I also think there were other young men that will eventually come out.

Allegedly super injunction due to be lifted in July, could be the reason why he's made the statement

I guess it is a demonstration for those asking how it happened, if there was lots of people safeguarding sacred casts at work, or scared of name calling, transference etc going on, no wonder Eamonn and Ruth struggled to get anywhere, too many people blocking safeguarding of the vulnerable and doing the opposite, telling lies etc, safeguarding seems to be for the opposite of the vulnerable who I would class as the groomed teen.

GuinnessBird · 27/05/2023 07:16

What a surprise.

This reminds me of when Cheryl Cole had a baby with someone she met when they were 12 years old.

LlynTegid · 27/05/2023 07:17

I hope the now 30 something? man with whom he had a relationship can be left in peace.

Wanting gay men to be treated with respect and equality means you should condemn what he did just as you would if it had been a relationship with a much younger woman.

mollyminniemo · 27/05/2023 07:21

I agree this stinks of grooming. Those failing to see that are exactly how and why it’s even able to happen as it’s so carefully crafted and subtle (while being so contrived in order to be so) the child themselves normally can’t see it gradually happening over time. Why isn’t Holly also being far more called out? She is in so many photos posing alongside Philip and the young man cuddling up together (sorry boy) over the years so it’s very very hard to believe she had no idea what was going on. As Ruth and Eamonn have also insinuated and Eamonn says there is more to still come out.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 27/05/2023 07:27

bibbityboppityboo · 26/05/2023 18:54

He had an "affair" with a teenager he potentially groomed from a young age, began a relationship when he was barely legal and on the basis of a huge power imbalance (getting him a job at 16 or so with This Morning wasn't it?!) which is pretty predatory if you ask me.

This...

Exactly why would a normal functioning gay/bisex male WANT a relationship with someone they've known since they were in primary school?? And were, what? 40/45 years younger than them??

Merrymouse · 27/05/2023 07:28

Gettingbysomehow · 27/05/2023 05:44

People in TV do this to young women all the time and nobody turns a hair.

20 years ago maybe.

However a similar story involving a girl would also now end his career.

teezletangler · 27/05/2023 07:35

The parallels of this story to the plot of The Morning Show on Apple TV are bonkers. Right down to the female co-host and the whole set knowing about the behaviour for years and enabling it, then trying to deny it all to get ahead of the story.

LetterForLettis · 27/05/2023 07:37

It's all too easy to condemn a sleaze ball once everyone else condemns him and he has fallen from grace.

What I would love to know is how many people would risk their own career, livelihood and social circle to report a safeguarding concern?

I think that most people would happily turn a blind eye to anything related to safeguarding of children, especially in performing art, show business and junior sports in order to not rock the boat and protect their own interest and the interest.

Most of the time, the abuser is a charismatic and influential figure, loved by many, and any safeguarding concern are minimised. Who would do the right thing and report a safeguarding concern at the risk of ending their career and being pushed out of your social and professional network? Not many is my guess.

On a separate note, what did MM's parents and family do to protect him from this show biz predator? Or were they dazzled by PS's celeb status and money?

People can be so ambitious when it comes to this sector, safeguarding often features low on the list. It's a sleazy, ego driven, money making business that attracts narcs and opportunists. Sad

Adults groom adults to get to the children.

Grooming isn’t obvious to other people when it’s happening. Groomers will groom parents, authorities and children.

It’s easy to condemn afterwards because it’s easy to see then, but in the midst of it it isn’t. Groomers are smart people. They know how to influence everyone around them to think they’re good people doing decent things. It’s not okay to blame parents, they often are victims.

We can already see that it is not just celebrities, it is fun of the milk teachers and health care professionals who refuse to safeguard, most just refuse to do so, you only have a handful if you look at those who are Gender critical who are decent and will safeguard the vulnerable not the charismatic work colleague. Even worse are those who not only fail the public they fail their own child, going on Holidays with predators.

As I said the lessons learned are how to safeguard the abusers better, they word that old 'lessons learned' carefully don't they.

Absolutely fucking disgusting that everyone knew about it and just let him carry on being that bitchy, sanctimonious personality on TV, giggling away with his loyal sidekick Holly.

They were clearly unpopular with the public too, both of them but still they were there every morning, so smug. Why was it allowed.
