How Many Of Your Senior School Teachers Went On To Marry Their Students?

How many of your senior school teachers had inappropriate 'relationships' with students or went on to marry them?

To my knowledge 3 male teachers at my school went on to marry students. 2 others had 'relationships' with 6th form girls. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more but I just don't know about them. This was in the late 80s / early 90s. Nobody was sacked but one left of his own accord and carried on teaching.

Was this common?

Two.

Only one. My O Level History teacher. But he married two ex students. Not at the same time, he wasn’t a bigamist, that would have been unacceptable 🙄

Two girls in my year group married teachers after leaving school (late 90s). Both at least 20 year age gap between pupil and teacher. One lost her husband to heart attack when she was pregnant with first child. The other has an elderly husband she is a carer for while she’s still in her 40s. It’s horrible that men in positions of power preyed on teenage girls, but it wasn’t unusual.

None in our mixed comprehensive in dublin in the 1980s, and we had a lot of young newly qualified teachers. There was a lovely atmosphere at our school, any kind of messing from the boys would have been very quickly quashed and there would have been absolutely zero tolerance of teacher/student relationships. I find it really shocking and sad when i read about sexual assaults in schools nowadays, it's sickening.

I left school in 2004, no one to my knowledge had married or slept with a student/former student… tbf the male teachers In our school were mostly over 45, only one was slightly hot and he left when we were year 10. As far as I know non of the girls in my year had any weird crushes on the teachers.

TicTac80 · 25/05/2023 22:20

I remember a handful of girls had crushes on some of the male teachers we had (I don’t get why!!). No one - to my knowledge - dated a teacher though. I left in the late 1990s

EdithStourton · 25/05/2023 22:31

None that I know of.
Nor any I have heard of since.

Left school in the 80s.

Name change.

I had bit of a ‘thing’ with a teacher. I met him as a 6th former (2011-2013) and he was 23/24.

There was a lot of tension/chemistry during my time at 6th form (I thought I loved him) but nothing untoward happened until I started my 2nd year at uni. Nothing really happened apart from sending explicit pictures/messages and chatting most days until the early hours for a good 18 months.

We never did meet up as he was petrified of us being caught and him loosing his career. It was messy, some of his colleagues had their suspicions something was going on, he was warned to be careful and I was naive to believe if he really loved me that he’d leave his job and that we could live happily ever after.

tbh he was an arse. He trusted me enough not to share around pictures of his dick or his deepest secrets but not enough to sneak him into my student house. If it was the 80s/90s we would have got into a relationship.

One of the art teachers married a girl a couple of years above me. This was in the 1980’s. I dated a lecturer from the local college, I was 16 and he was 26. It only lasted about six weeks as I didn’t want to sleep with him, awful really.

aphrascott · 25/05/2023 23:16

Chemistry teacher openly kissing (you could see through half glass panelled walls, if that makes sense) a girl (18) on the last day of college in the chemistry lab. We could see them as we walked by in the corridor.

I remember we were appalled as he was so old, comparatively speaking. They must have thought they were safe to do so but I don't know if that would be the case now.

QueSyrahSyrah · 25/05/2023 23:22

None that I know of while I was at school but my history teacher had married a girl he'd taught after she left sixth form (my Mum's the same age as her and went to the same school).

They're still together now, 40 years on.

Nellieinthebarn · 25/05/2023 23:24

Yes the music teacher married one of the pupils as soon as she was 18. This was the late 70s, although it we thought odd and a bit yuck even then. But it was more to do with the fact he was very unfanciable in our opinion, not the unusually large age gap and very inappropriate relationship. I believe that the said teacher was actually older than his new parents in law.

DecommissionedVag · 25/05/2023 23:32

One at my school when I was there, between 1996-2001. She was my friend's older sister's mate. He was sleeping with her from 15yrs old and they ended up getting married when she left school. Everyone knew, so I'm guessing the teachers did to but nothing was done about it.

PurpleBugz · 25/05/2023 23:41

2010's
Teacher (male) had a relationship with a sixth former (female). He changed schools before they came out as together. Don't know if they married in the end

toodlesofoodles · 26/05/2023 00:33

Teachers married other teachers but thank god no one got taken in by the now prosecuted nonces who preyed on us (early 90s)

dancinggoosey · 26/05/2023 00:43

My history teacher married a girl in the year above me. I left school in 1998. They're still together with kids.

feeona123 · 26/05/2023 01:10

In late 90’s, my friends friend in sixth form was shagging a young teacher.

It wasn’t a secret and we all knew it was wrong!
