How Many Of Your Senior School Teachers Went On To Marry Their Students?

How many of your senior school teachers had inappropriate 'relationships' with students or went on to marry them?

To my knowledge 3 male teachers at my school went on to marry students. 2 others had 'relationships' with 6th form girls. It wouldn't surprise me if there were more but I just don't know about them. This was in the late 80s / early 90s. Nobody was sacked but one left of his own accord and carried on teaching.

Was this common?

None. No relationships or marriages between staff and students at my school and none at sixth form either. One teacher caught having put cameras in the girls’ toilets and he’s in prison now. I left in 2010.

One that I know of. A male Maths teacher at our school had a relationship with a girl in sixth form. This was early 2000s. Common knowledge and he didn't lose his job.

There were lots of rumours about one of the History teachers sleeping with students but I've no idea if that's true or just gossip.

It always seems to be maths teachers and PE teachers 😂

None in my year but would be surprised at all even after the male teachers were all quite old and not v attractive, the Geography teacher was a bit sleazy that’s about it

In Australia in the 80s and teachers and students sleeping togethere seems to have not been very uncommon!

The religion teacher had a relationship with a 6th former (he was in his 30s) but no marriages that I know of. Late 90s/early 2000s

A few had relationships that were open secrets, one married the teacher. It was gross. Early 90s.

1, but it was before my time, 1970ish. Young teacher and a 6th former so about 3/4 year age gap. They were still married and had kids when I left the school in the early 2000's and he was still teaching.

I'm horrified that any of these situations are being described as relationships. It's grooming and abuse of a minor!

Our main one was a maths teacher, he was married to female pe teacher. I also had a female one at 6th form who took me to a womens only hotel for weekend which she paid, Mum approved that. Nothing happened.

Music teacher (married) had a relationship with a lower sixth girl (talented musician). She didn't go to uni with the rest of us and married him when his divorce came through. Early 80s. Still together now.

I was at an all girls school with only female teachers, as far as I know, no inappropriate relationships.

One of the sixth form teachers at my school starting seeing, and later married, a girl from my year. They got together during the time she was at sixth form - not sure how old he was but he wasn't a young trainee or newly qualified teacher; he was a fair bit older.

I left sixth form in 1991, so just over 20 years ago it happened.

No clue on marriage but several were arrested for sleeping with students

I live on the same street as the girl Kate Middleton was at school with who married one of their teachers. He was much older than her and they had three children. Sadly he was very ill with Covid and died. He was often mistaken as the children's grandfather by other parents at school etc.

I was also at school with someone who's parents had met when her Dad was a teacher at the school (he was still there when we were pupils) and her Mum was a pupil. They married as soon as her Mum left sixth form. He was significantly older than her. They had a long and seemingly very happy marriage.

It sounds as though this was relatively common. Horrifying really.

None that I'm aware of!

Some of the teachers married each other and we found that scandalous enough.

My head of sixth form was married to a former student of his.

One - music teacher and our school starlet. She got pregnant and they got married the summer after she finished school. He stayed on for years and years.

Not aware of any in my school. Wouldn't have been that likely - all girls school with about 98% female teachers and most of them were in their 40s. No young male teachers.

One of our head of years (was 50ish) at the time was sleeping with a girl in year 10 and 11. I remember her showing us love bites on her inner thigh and saying they was from him. He ended up getting sacked and going to prison. This was in 2005ish and they’re still together now.

My classmate married our science teacher. Started seeing him in 5th form, they married when she left school at 18.

Deputy Head RE teacher left his wife for girl in my year. Late nineties. I believe they are still together.
