About 2 days ago I discovered that Skegness isn’t in Scotland 😳 How did I never know this before? Embarrassingly, I’m 38 😂

I know that Pontefract isn’t in Wales, but I can’t quite bring myself to believe it.

Did you know Pontefract means broken bridge? From the Latin pons and fractus. William the Conquerer couldn’t get across the river to invade the town as the locals had blocked the bridge up.

It’s known locally / satirically as Ponte Carlo (neighbour of Castleford aka Cas Vegas) and is most famous for licorice. And that’s all I’ve got on Pontefract.

I thought Carlisle was in Scotland until recently.

Admittedly, I grew up abroad and have never been there. I generally have a far better knowledge of UK geography than my English DH though.

My SIL and family, years ago, had the possibility of relocating to new south Wales for her DHs work. Her mum told me not to be upset, as it wasn't far on the train. Bless.

  • The city of Portmouth
  • Gibraltar

Found this out a couple years ago and I've lived under 100miles from Portsmouth all my life 🙃

I also thought hamburgers were made of pig, til now.

I used to think cheeseburgers were just made of cheese, not meat.

In my defence, I'm vegetarian. So I was sad about the cheeseburgers when I thought about having one.

I always thought it was ridiculous that Jade Goody got derided mercilessly for not knowing where Anglesey was. As this thread shows, loads of perfectly intelligent and normal people, don’t know where lots of places in the UK are.

Tom Jones is from Treforest, Pontypridd.
Pont is the Welsh word for bridge.
Pontefract cakes are also known as pomfret cakes, and that's what we called them.
The Pont in Ponteland is a river

Bristol definitely isn't in Devon. It's bordered by Gloucestershire on the north and Somerset to the south.

"East Angular". She thought it was abroad. People get annoyed when people are open about being ignorant. I don't know why. No one is born knowing this stuff. Not many feel the need to go out of their way to learn about this stuff until they need to know it. I mean, why would anyone need to know where Carlisle is until they need to know.

That post menopause as well as your fanny drying up faster than the Horn of Africa and your eyes doing the same - your pubes also disappear . I’ve gone from a Kate Bush bush to a Prince William seemingly overnight. And my flaps have grown so quickly I reckon I could easily park a Mini Cooper in there without any lube whatsoever

The worst thing is when you go to the toilet and your flaps get caught under the toilet seat
