Have you ever taken a day off work because of period pain?

My DD is 14 months old and yesterday I had my first period since she was born. I’ve been feeling really sick and dizzy from the period pain. I rang in sick as I couldn’t imagine sitting in the office all day with this pain.

Yes. I couldn't sit at all I was in so much pain. My manager sent me home.

Yes I have. Pain worse than childbirth at times. Vomiting and fainting and then three days later, a wonderful migraine just to add to the delight!

Thank heavens I have had a hysterectomy now!

Yes. I've also ended up in hospital due to a period before as well.

no but i think i should of ,pain killers and monster.But feeling like hell is no way to work .Mine used to be very bad ,seems less bad after copper coil

yes, i had fibroids and a mirena fitted that was meant to relieve heavy bleeding. It made it worse and gave me cramps like i'd never had in my life before. I had a couple of days off sick and some where i worked from home because the bleeding was so heavy.

Yep! Taken 1 full day off and left work early once. Felt faint, sick and really bad cramping.

No, and I feel very lucky that I’ve never had really debilitating pain with it. I would never judge another woman for doing so though. I hope you feel better soon 💐

No but I don’t have painful periods. If I did I absolutely would. I used to line manage a woman who had a couple of days off every month, it wasn’t a problem at all.

Yes I have, I don't work anymore but I have in the past. Also lots of missed days of school when I was younger. I find the pain much more manageable with prescribed cocodamol from the doctor. It takes away my pain but I still bleed heavily and need regular access to the toilet, so work on the first 2 days of my cycle would be a problem.

Yes, when the vomiting and pain were too bad, or it was migraines/dizziness. The pain came in waves like contractions, and I would just be rocking on the floor when they came, so wouldn't have been able to work very well. Dead pale as well, though I never fainted, but it looked awful

I had the most horrific period recently. The pain took my breath away and I was really light headed. I almost passed out. Fortunately it was my day off work but I absolutely would have had to call in sick if it was a working day.

Only when I had the copper coil and they were so bad I would vomit and faint. Mine have been significantly easier since giving birth, weirdly, although I seem to remember the first few were quite tough.

No, but just due to timing. Have you been to the GP of its a regular thing? Mefanamic acid helps.

No but horrendous period pain has made me faint. In the past I have used many methods/things to help me get through the day. What really helped me not be off sick was when I worked with a small team of women who had experienced similar symptoms so understood and we often helped each other when necessary to stay at work.

Yes because I suffered from endometriosis for years. Used to get sent home as I'd go completely white with the pain and be on the verge of passing out.

Yes, and I used to have to say it was something else because my nasty cow boss, who was a woman told me one day that she always worked through her period, and expected her staff to. I was young, and understood what she was telling me. If it was now I was being spoken to like that, my response would not be so passive.

Yes a couple of times. No woman should be judged if they feel they cannot work though pain, as for all of us it's different. Feel better soon 💐xx

No, but I know I’m very very lucky to have short and pain free periods.

I’d never judge anyone that I knew to have taken time off for period-pain, I’d just hope they got some relief soon.

Yes. A few times a year the pain is too much, I sometimes faint, have a headache/migraine and be sick.

I hope you feel better soon, it’s rubbish being a woman sometimes. 💐

Never work, but i remember having to skip a school trip and go to sick bay because of the pain. Someone introduced me to feminax which helped at the time. As soon as i went on the pill when i was 21, that took the pain away.

No, but I'm fortunate to be mildly affected by periods, it's never been worse than slight cramping, even with a melon-sized fibroid. I wouldn't feel bad about calling in sick though, it seems to be quite common.
