Do you work better in the office or from home?

It depends on the mood I’m in. I must admit I am more focused in the office but buying a ticket to travel in and usually lunch once there seems to cost me lots more than staying at home. Plus I start earlier when I work from home

100% more productive working from home.

At the office I will have appointments, then go to write up what was discussed, then hear someone helpfully say ‘oh jaberwockky knows all about xyz’ and have a 20 minute discussion with whoever’s been directed to me and so the cycle continues and I end up working for two hours in the evening to catch up. I’m happy to help others, but at home I’m seen as less assessable and can just get on with things.

Silvergoldandglitter · 22/05/2023 17:16

Definitely home. It's quiet and I can hear and focus myself instead of a busy, noisy office and, I can stand outside and get air when I make a cup of tea rather than sitting in a bright stuffy office all day. Loads of other reasons but those mainly.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 22/05/2023 17:18

Office. I can’t concentrate at home.

pineapple360 · 22/05/2023 17:18

Office!

Doesanyoneknowwhattheyaredoing · 22/05/2023 17:19

Office

Mushroo · 22/05/2023 17:19

Office 100%, which is a shame as I have a full time wfh job and I’m struggling…

Spacestace · 22/05/2023 17:22

100% from the office. As do my colleagues even the ones who insist they work better from home- their output and input to essential meetings (no not pointless ones but infrequently decision making ones) says otherwise.

FatCatBum · 22/05/2023 17:23

Much more focused at home, only go into the office to catch up with people

Perihelion · 22/05/2023 17:23

Home. Office too noisy and too many people wanting a chat.
Work hybrid, would prefer full time wfh

cherry2727 · 22/05/2023 17:27

Most definitely at home!
Way too many distractions at work and I end up having more tea breaks in the office. I also tend to take a full hour lunch and go for a walk outside when in the office !

Fandabedodgy · 22/05/2023 17:27

100% at home

Lampzade · 22/05/2023 17:29

Definitely fro home.
I was constantly interrupted when I worked in an office which was mostly due to the fact that we worked in an open plan office.

Kreftla · 22/05/2023 17:30

Home definitely. So do my direct reports. The output has been so much greater since they started wfh.

EversoDisorganised · 22/05/2023 17:34

100% office, far too many distractions at home, far too quiet and its so much easier to work in a team when you are all actually together. Also I love getting up, dressed and out the door first thing.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 22/05/2023 17:42

Home as its easier to concentrate but i have the benefit of a spare room to make a home office so it feels like separate from my 'home' if that makes sense.

In the office so many people are chatting, disturbing you, asking questions I barely get anything done.

Christmascracker0 · 22/05/2023 17:43

Office deffo. I just can’t work from home. It’s like a mental block! I can’t manage my to do list, my time management is shocking, I procrastinate on important things. I get distracted very easily and as a result don’t pay attention/miss things. It takes me longer to do anything so I have to make up the time in evenings/weekends.

Communication is harder too- I find phone/video calls difficult and the emails are relentless. Much easier to pop over and see someone for a 2 min chat.

Plus it’s nice to get ‘up and out’ in the morning and actually talk to people in real life. I live in my own so wfh can be very isolating.

LlamasUnited · 22/05/2023 17:46

Home 100%. Too much chatting in the office, plus the hassle of booking / walking to different meeting rooms. At home I can go from meeting to meeting in seconds. Also I tend to work longer hours from home as I work for the hours I would otherwise be commuting. That said, I do quite enjoy going in to the office for the social aspect, it just isn’t as productive.

SpringBunnies · 22/05/2023 17:47

Home.

JuneShitfield · 22/05/2023 17:48

Office/workplace. I can’t do wfh, it sent me batty.

I prefer to work out of the house, the only real benefir is saving on petrol. When you say it only seems to save how what do you spend when WFH? Do you have the heating on really high, I used blankets and layers during the winter to keep the costs down

StackBlocks · 22/05/2023 17:51

Home 100%

bluechameleon · 22/05/2023 17:53

Depends what I'm doing. If I have a big job I need to spend several hours concentrating on, then definitely home because I mover get a long stretch without interruptions at work. But there are various things I either can't do from home or might get part way through then decide I need something that is at work, so if I have that sort of job to do then I'm better at work.

Changeforachange · 22/05/2023 17:53

I love hybrid working but if they said pick one, I'd have to pick office.

I like seeing my colleagues, plus I have access to dual screens, printer, IT support on site, a shop, a gym. I'm lucky - it's a nice place to work.

But the loud chat from one particular team... OMFG. So distracting. I'd struggle full time in the office.

Fandangoes · 22/05/2023 17:55

see all those 'questions' and 'distractions' in the office, and you being 'too accessible' = that's you helping your colleagues, collaborating and making teamwork much easier. You may be more productive individually at home, but in most cases, the team as a whole is less effective and productive. Worse, the longer term effects of the next generation of workers not getting the opportunity to learn so quickly from more experienced members of staff is yet to hit.

LongLiveGoblingKing · 22/05/2023 17:55

Absolutely get more done at home. I have a dedicated office room so that helps. I have a standing desk so feel more energised than when I have to sit in the office.

It's quiet with fewer distractions. I can go for a run at lunch and not worry about being a sweaty mess for the afternoon. I can cook healthy food in my kitchen.

I can leave post it notes and reminders for the next day on my desk, rather than the 'tidy desk' policy in the office.

God I hate the office.
