Do you work better in the office or from home?

It depends on the mood I’m in. I must admit I am more focused in the office but buying a ticket to travel in and usually lunch once there seems to cost me lots more than staying at home. Plus I start earlier when I work from home

Office.
I do absolutely fuck all when I'm WFH.

Mortimermay · 22/05/2023 17:57

Definitely home. I find it easier to focus because I'm not interrupted by people, not distracted by people trying to chat to me, not distracted by the people who like to have music playing in the background. I can also start earlier if I'm working from home and actually spend more time working on the things I needed to do as opposed to being called away to be asked about x, y, z.
I'm also happier because I spend less time and money on commuting and spend more time with family because I close my laptop and I'm at home rather than still having to make the journey home.

Do you feel at all guilty being paid to do nothing? It's quite refreshng to hear someone admit that, it often seems on here that everyone does 2.5 people's work per day as they aer soooooo productive at home 😀

ToriesAgainstHumanity · 22/05/2023 18:00

Home, work 3 days at home. 2 in the office.

All the chatting in the office means I can't focus as well.
I like going in to the office but if I really want to focus I'm much better at home.

runningonberocca · 22/05/2023 18:01

Depends. On the days my DP works from home or is off I just can’t. He’s too distractable and keeps wandering in for a chat or a cuppa. Or else he’s muttering to himself about work and I can’t concentrate. But if he’s at work and I’m wfh then I’m way more productive at home

Depends what I'm doing. If I have a big job I need to spend several hours concentrating on, then definitely home because I mover get a long stretch without interruptions at work. But there are various things I either can't do from home or might get part way through then decide I need something that is at work, so if I have that sort of job to do then I'm better at work.

This.

I wfh 1 or 2 days a week. I can get my head down and work interrupted on those days. The other 3/4 days are for collaborative work. Often leave work without having produced much but hopefully the disruptions will pay dividends in the long term

Minikievs · 22/05/2023 18:05

@VisionsOfSplendour I don't get paid to do nothing, I am back in the office for my full hours and have been since about July 2020 😂
I am very honest and vocal about the fact that I cannot work from home. Unless it's waiting in for the boiler man or similar, that I obviously can't do from the office, then I never wfh. My work know full well if I'm "WFH" for any reason, it basically means I'm making a cursory look at my emails and staring slack jawed and glassy eyed at my laptop screen for hours.

PetitPorpoise · 22/05/2023 18:19

Office for me. I'm really slow when i bring work home and just cba.

dudsville · 22/05/2023 18:23

I get so much more done at home. I've completely changed what I do when I'm in now, just back to back meetings so that i can do tasks the require thinking, writing etc., at home.

shelbabab · 22/05/2023 18:29

At home. Office is too noisy and I chat way too much.

I have to go bk one day a week again soon and I'm thinking of listening to music or podcasts like I do at home. I just can't get anything done in the office I am so unproductive!

Danikm151 · 22/05/2023 18:31

Office. It’s too easy to get distracted at home but being able to get laundry and cleaning done during the time I would be commuting comes in handy so I WFH once a week.
my desk set up is better at the office too.

Bigminnie1 · 22/05/2023 18:31

Definitely home. It's so much more peaceful and I am also on a lot of international calls. At the office, I am
Always trying to find a quiet space to have my online meetings.
It also costs to travel there and takes 2 hours out of my day. This means I do zero exercise on office days, am shattered travelling into central London and get less time to spend with my family.

ScarletWitchM · 22/05/2023 18:35

Home. I find I put in more hours and get more done as I’m less distracted. I do have a specific working office room which helps.
My role is a WFH role and I occasionally go into the office but find it quite distracting generally

WinedropsOnMoses · 22/05/2023 18:39

I much prefer WFH as saves me time on commute,I get more done and if I have to work late due to last minute things, calls with colleagues in different timezones I can because I don't have to leave 6pm on the dot to get the kids. In my company,it's entirely optional.A small number choose to go in (hot desks tho - yuck.) but majority don't.

For me, and definitely for a number of my colleagues, we're so afraid of the privilege being taken away that we work harder and don't dare to piss about 😅

TwilightSkies · 22/05/2023 18:41

Home 100%. It’s quiet and I’m not getting interrupted and asked random questions all the time! It’s so hard to focus in the office.

GraysPapaya · 22/05/2023 18:42

Office all day long. The team works better there too.

NoTeaNoShade · 22/05/2023 18:43

I'd like it to be home, but I definitely function better in the office.

BenCoopersSupportWren · 22/05/2023 18:44

Home. I have a chronic illness that means I’m easily and frequently exhausted, so not having to expend energy on commuting allows me to be more productive WFH. I’m quite disciplined at not allowing myself to be distracted by housework or making endless cuppas etc.

I have the option of working in an office if I want to but as it’s a “hub” for anyone who needs office space on a given day, all it means is I end up sitting in an open plan space surrounded by people I don’t know who don’t work in the same team, directorate or department as me, having the same calls over Teams with the rest of my (geographically dispersed) team that I’d be having at home.

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 22/05/2023 18:44

Home! I'm moved jobs and work solely at home. Working in an office I chat way too much plus I find there's often bitching session and it usually leads to crappy morale.

When I'm working from home I am solely working. I will grab the odd cuppa and set the robot hoover on but that's it, no dossing happens

Ilikewinter · 22/05/2023 18:48

Im hybrid and much prefer home. However, im currently learning a new aspect to my role and its 100% easier to do that when in the office rather than trying to ask questions over skype or a teams call.

January2015 · 22/05/2023 18:48

100% home

StormShadow · 22/05/2023 18:50

Home, without a doubt. I used to waste so much time pissing about in the office.

Wonderingifitstimetogo · 22/05/2023 18:52

Home

Kazzyhoward · 22/05/2023 18:52

Office. I'm self employed and can work from home or my own office, but there's too many distractions at home, and I never get as much done. Even allowing for travel/commute time, I do more work at the office and am more motivated to do marketing, admin, etc. I much prefer having a work/home divide. Just nice to be able to WFH occasionally when it's bad weather or I'm expecting workmen or a delivery etc, but definitely not as productive/efficient, but that's my choice with being self employed - it's me who bears the brunt of not doing enough work in a day if I wfh for any reason.

Hugasauras · 22/05/2023 18:54

Definitely home. I go into the office for a chill day sometimes! It's a wee jaunt.
