What time do you eat your evening meal?

I am intrigued after a conversation with my DP, he has always naturally eaten his main/evening meal quite late (to my mind) compared to myself.

If work/family constraints were not a thing, what time do you think you would naturally feel ready to eat it? I am curious since we all live by such fairly diverse patterns these days compared to the past - I know someone who eats her main/largest meal at 3pm since she starts work at 5pm, although she does revert back to a more typical pattern when not working.

Between 2100-2130.

Rampantukulele · 22/05/2023 15:39

About 4/5pm I like an early night and an early morning so I feel like my meals are shifted forward.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/05/2023 15:40

If I didn't work about 6pm.

In reality as I start work anytime between 2.30am and 11.59pm - it's all over the show 😂

MrsSamR · 22/05/2023 15:40

7pm - my husband cooks while I put my DD to bed and it's ready when I come down!

aSofaNearYou · 22/05/2023 15:42

7pm ideally, but definitely somewhere between 6-8. I find it baffling when people say 9pm+, I'd be ravenous by then and in bed an hour or so later!

Firstshoes · 22/05/2023 15:46

I always aim for 7pm. Usually more like 7.30pm.

Berlinlover · 22/05/2023 15:46

I eat my main meal between 12 and 2, I couldn’t imagine eating a large meal in the evening.

Between 5-6

It's important that we eat together as a family

AuntieMarys · 22/05/2023 15:48

6.45

I'm exactly the same. If it were up to me, I'd eat my main meal at 7pm. As it happens it's usually somewhere between 5.30pm and 8pm depending on whether we're eating with DDs or after they're in bed. I couldn't have my main meal much later than 8.30pm....by 10pm I'm in bed!

TidyHomeTidyMind · 22/05/2023 15:49

Between 6.30-7.30pm ideally. Depending on the kids activities it can be as late as 9.00pm sometimes.

Gettingbysomehow · 22/05/2023 15:49

5:30 because I'm on the 19-5 fasting schedule and have lunch at 12.30.
If I eat any later I get indigestion all night as well which is very annoying. I don't really like eating that early, I used to eat about 8pm but needs must.

BreviloquentBastard · 22/05/2023 15:50

Between 7:30 and 8:30pm on weeknights, later at the weekend just because we do everything later.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/05/2023 15:50

Weekdays about 8 - 8.30pm. By the time we have got in from work and cooked it can't be much earlier.

Weekends more like 9 - 9.30pm.

Pineappletart7 · 22/05/2023 15:53

6:30pm is perfect for me. If I eat earlier than that I snack in the evenings and go to bed feeling bloated

afrikat · 22/05/2023 15:55

My preference is around 5pm

Upsizer · 22/05/2023 15:55

6 for me. Maybe I digest food slowly but I hate going to bed feeling full and it takes me a good 4-5 hours before I can sleep!

people who say 9:30 etc - what time do you go to sleep?

Getabloominmoveon · 22/05/2023 15:56

Normally 7.30 ish, but depends when DH gets home (commutes)/if we’re WFH, or if I am working away, which I often am, when I prefer to eat earlier.

I grew up eating my tea at 5.30, and often having ‘supper’ - toast or a crumpet - before bed. We also came home from school for a hot lunch (or dinner, as we then called it). No wonder I got fat!

toastofthetown · 22/05/2023 15:57

Any time between 5:30 and 20:30 depending on what I’ve got going on and how hungry I am. I usually vaguely aim for around 7:00 though.

Ginmonkeyagain · 22/05/2023 15:57

Usually go to sleep between 11pm and 1am.

I cannot eat at 6pm as I am usually still at work or just leaving work.

Chewbecca · 22/05/2023 15:58

It was 7-730 when working but now we are not, it is 6pm. I would rather like later so I don’t get hungry before bed but am twitchy by 6 to get my feet up and don’t want to stand up and start chopping again nearer 7.

User1786 · 22/05/2023 15:58

Dinner between 2000 and 2100, any earlier and I’m just not hungry. Bed around 0000

cocksstrideintheevening · 22/05/2023 15:59

If work / clubs weren't a thing probably around 630. As it is it's usually 8 ish

AliMonkey · 22/05/2023 15:59

About 7, unless other plans mean it needs to be earlier or later. My ideal would be a little before 7 but usually ends up more like 7.15.

When DC were small, during week they ate 5-6 and we ate 8-9, otherwise one parent would end up eating on their own and it meant we ate a wider range of food, eg spicier meals. At weekends we compromised on 6-6.30 and ate together.

GoodVibesHere · 22/05/2023 16:00

6pm. I am starving by then, I'd eat earlier but DH moans it's too early.
