Anyone injured tailbone?

I was out on a forest walk about six weeks ago and slipped on some decking. I went right down on my bum and while it didn’t hurt at the time I’m in quite a bit of discomfort now. When I stand after sitting for a while it’s really sore. Any advice? What could I have done? It’s literally my tailbone. Will I need an X-ray? Seems so ridiculous it so sore :-(

Broke mine after slipping. It was never right until it was reset.

resetting was……interesting.

@HermioneWeasley was it like mine?

HermioneWeasley · 24/05/2023 20:53

@Karwomannghia yes but just the once!

I bruised mine, I was going to sit on the sofa and missed, heavily planting myself on the arm. My kids still laugh about it 20 years or so later

Echoing the strong recommendation to see an osteopath. I got a compressed coccyx (tailbone) being thrown off a horse years ago. An osteopath with cranial skills decompressed it in one visit without even touching me - lying there I felt it unfurl whilst she had her hands above my head. The pain just stopped. DM me if you're in reach of S London and would like her details. Good luck!

I would definitely like that info please.

I cannot believe how many of there are! I doubted I’d get a single reply!

If anyone can recommend a ring cushion to buy I would really appreciate it!

I have this one (with cover):

When DH was looking for what next after exhausting all the options, and he finally found a surgeon that would treat it he was told that there is only 1 surgeon in France, 1 in the UK and 2 in Germany that do coccyx removal surgery. His surgeon here in France doesn’t advertise anywhere: he says of he did he’d end up doing nothing but coccyx treatments, because there is such a great demand not being met.

It’s not ‘sexy’ surgery, and it has a long recovery time / high risk of infection, but it’s the only option for chronic issues where everything those has failed - other than long term use of (addictive) painkillers.

It depends how badly you hurt it. I most likely fractured mine as a teen. Went to gp straight away as was in agony. But they said I don’t need an x ray. The pain became worse over the first week. And took me almost 6 weeks to be able to lay or sit properly. I can’t take anti inflammatory so survived on paracetamol
