Anyone injured tailbone?

I was out on a forest walk about six weeks ago and slipped on some decking. I went right down on my bum and while it didn’t hurt at the time I’m in quite a bit of discomfort now. When I stand after sitting for a while it’s really sore. Any advice? What could I have done? It’s literally my tailbone. Will I need an X-ray? Seems so ridiculous it so sore :-(

Yes, fell of Pfizer my weeding seat in the garden. Like everyone else, found out that ‘there is nothing we can do’. A valley cushion, which I think you may be able to hire if it isn’t prescribed is better than a donut.

It usually does get better on its own , I ve never heard of anyone else having it removed🤢.

I have no idea why a pharmaceutical company has tried to hijack my post.

Took about 15 weeks to get back to normal for me (but aches if I sit for very long time or if its very cold even now)

I felt down stairs and injured mine. I went to an osteopath who worked wonders - a few sessions and it was back to normal.

Same thing happened to me 20 years ago - slipped and fell hard on a slippery floor. I was a bit tipsy at the time, it was a party in the local church hall. It wasn't till I'd sobered up that the pain really hit me. It woke me up. I had terrible pain for weeks. Like PPs I bought a doughnut cushion and it took months to heal. I still use the cushion now at home as I still get niggles now and again. Never had an x-ray - my doctor at the time just told me It'll take months to get better.

ThreeRingCircus · 23/05/2023 17:28

Yes, I really hurt mine when I fell over ice skating. It took a good 2 to 3 months to feel better. To be honest, even if it's fractured rather than bruised there's nothing you can really do other than give it time to heal and keep mobile. I do sympathise though as it's really painful!

007DoubleOSeven · 23/05/2023 17:33

If you don't have a ring cushion to hand, use a towel/blanket/coat.

You can either: roll it up and place it under your thighs, or roll it up and shape it into a U, with the open end at your coccyx.

Tintackedsea · 23/05/2023 17:34

Yes. It was months of pain. I have HUGE sympathy for you. I am nearly two years on and I still really struggle to sit for longer than 5/10 minutes on a hard chair and driving for a long time is very uncomfortable. It was worse than any pain I've ever had.

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 23/05/2023 19:12

I broke mine in labour and it took about 2 years to feel ok!

SinnerBoy · 24/05/2023 04:59

Blimey, I'm cringing in sympathy at all the very similar tales of woe and memory of how bad it was!

vodkaredbullgirl · 24/05/2023 05:04

Took 2 years and injections to sort mine. Displaced it after having a c section many moons ago.

sanityisamyth · 24/05/2023 05:10

Broke mine being catapulted off a horse years and years ago. I now still can't sit for too long on a hard chair or ride a bike!

Fleura · 24/05/2023 05:22

Mine was fractured at some point by either falling on the pavement or through childbirth. Had exactly the same pain as you describe. Ended up seeing a women’s health physio privately which was life changing - it has to be treated internally so can’t see a normal physio. She was able to help relax and stretch the muscles and it made a world of difference. Still occasionally get a slight ache standing up from sitting but otherwise absolutely fine. If you can afford it, would highly recommend.

DreamTheMoors · 24/05/2023 06:00

I was parasailing (I guess it’s called) and a cord on the parachute snapped and I fell 40 feet into the water right onto my tailbone.
It took three or four months before I could sit down without one of those doughnut things.

WorriedMillie · 24/05/2023 06:04

Yes, fell on ice years ago (walking in bloody ski boots!)
it was absolute agony for a while
i didn’t bother with an x ray as it was slowly getting better (plus figured there was nothing much they would do)
I still get twinges now, sitting on certain surfaces for any length of time

Wdyw · 24/05/2023 06:29

Echoing the strong recommendation to see an osteopath. I got a compressed coccyx (tailbone) being thrown off a horse years ago. An osteopath with cranial skills decompressed it in one visit without even touching me - lying there I felt it unfurl whilst she had her hands above my head. The pain just stopped. DM me if you're in reach of S London and would like her details. Good luck!

silverfullmoon · 24/05/2023 06:32

Yes. I fell downstairs once and whacked my tail bone. It was honestly one of the worst pains Ive ever experienced and I could barely walk afterwards. I did go for an x ray and they said nothing was broken but that area is incredibly painful when injured. I'd say it took at least 4 weeks for the pain to subside. Cold compresses, then later warm baths with epsom salts, anti inflammatories/pain relief, and alternating rest with very gentle walking helped me recover.

DustyLee123 · 24/05/2023 06:35

I fell off a stool onto my coccyx once, it was so painful and I couldn’t sit on my bum for 6 weeks. I think I should have got it xrayed but DH was in a bad mood that day so didn’t want to ask him to take me !

powerrangers · 24/05/2023 06:46

2years. TWO YEARS it took for me to be painless. But I really cracked it. Usually it's a few months

Resisterance · 24/05/2023 07:10

I broke my coccyx drunkenly falling down a whole set of wooden stairs 20 years ago one new year's eve. I couldn't sit down for four months!

Ffwd 20 years with no issue until this year in a role which involves sitting a lot.i am now in a lot of pain as a result, both walking and sitting and thinking is this it now?! It's coming back to haunt me.

For a GP appointment ( July! ) to look at it and see if there's anything that can be done. Hate how miserable and old it makes me feel.

Resisterance · 24/05/2023 07:13

If anyone can recommend a ring cushion to buy I would really appreciate it!

Karwomannghia · 24/05/2023 07:39

I slipped down the stairs and hurt it badly. Months later it still hurt. Went for a few chiro sessions which helped but the main thing was them pushing it back out from the inside ie finger up the bum and a pulling it up. Really embarrassing but it did work. I have no pain from it ever now.

Katieandthekids · 24/05/2023 20:04

I cracked mine when I was in my 20s and it took about 5 years before it felt completely right again Confused

KaleFairy · 24/05/2023 20:32

Yes, went down a slide at the park that was way too fast and I landed hard! 8 weeks for me. Do get a donut though I should help it heal faster.

TheChosenTwo · 24/05/2023 20:33

I did, in a spectacular stupid way 😂 took a good 5 months before I could comfortably sit again. It was mightily painful 😖
