A nice plant perhaps or some well placed cake tins ?? Or are you like me and shove anything and everything up there and wonder why your kitchen does not look stylish.
I have just cleaned the fridge out (I know) and removed all the junk from the top. I don't want to put it back there. Please give me some ideas Mumsnet!

Usually dog and cat food but right now there's just cans of raspberry Barr that no one likes

MakesMeFeelSad · 22/05/2023 16:02

Oh and quite often there's a cat up there as well

Babdoc · 22/05/2023 16:04

Half my recipe books. The other half are on top of the freezer. Everything else in the kitchen is built in/integrated, so it’s the only place to put them.

Mañanarama · 22/05/2023 16:06

Recipe books, four plants, bottles of wine and some big glass jars of rhubarb gin that my husband is brewing. It’s a nice little corner.

CherryRipe1 · 22/05/2023 16:11

A wok and some mixing bowls

RichTeee · 22/05/2023 16:12

3 Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz style baskets

  1. Full.of crisps to hide from DH

2. Full of fabric that I will one day, soon, sometime, make into cushions, recover dining chairs and make a lamp shade from.

3. Paint sample tins that need to go in the shed - but that involves clearing the shed, which for the past year we've just opened the door and pushed stuff into.....so these could be quite a permanent fixture.

Herbs and spices
A portable hob with instruction booklet
A china duck
Cookbooks

The worktop is on top of my fridge (a different worktop is on top of the freezer).
I suppose technically that means the toaster and kettle are on top of the fridge, and the slow cooker is on top of the freezer, but those are on worktops so don't feel like they are "on top".

Nothing. Things on top of fridges always make kitchens seem small as implies there isn’t enough storage. I’m always amazed by the number of RM photos that have crap piled on top of the fridge.

Depends how big your kitchen and fridge are, mine are both huge and it just looked like an odd void of blankness before I utilised the space.

Mimilamore · 22/05/2023 16:41

Two disposable barbecues and an indoor plant watering can, it's out in the lean to so is useful for storage but not a thing of beauty...oh there is a rush basket up there too!

kitsuneghost · 22/05/2023 16:46

Pizza oven, air fryer and steamer on top of fridge
Foremans, slow cooker and about 4 JD gift sets on top of freezer

Both the fridge and freezer are taller than me. I get stuff down fine on a stretch.

cashmerecardigans · 22/05/2023 16:46

A wine rack, 4 drinks bottles for DHs bike, a panettone in a tin, a boxed Aldi Jo Malone dupe diffuser, a box of Yorkshire tea, a spare calendar and my sunglasses.
It's a bit of a mess but a very convenient height for dumping stuff.

You are right but I don't think there is ever a big enough kitchen
I could fill about 6 average kitchens easy

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 22/05/2023 16:49

A hob, annoyingly. Tiny cupboard of a kitchen with only an under counter fridge for a family of 5 🙃🙃 going mad!

5FootMama · 22/05/2023 16:52

Medicine box.

Hair scrunchies and brushes box - hang back from when the girls were little and it meant they were never lost in the mornings or interfered with!

Cards (birthday, congratulations etc), writing paper and stamps box. - for those last minute cards.

Lonelycrab · 22/05/2023 16:54

A shoe box full of ds’s doodles he does on A4 paper. Can’t bring myself to throw them away. He loves drawing. And a bright yellow full face crash helmet bought a few years ago when I convinced myself I was going to get back into more hardcore mtb. Getting a bit old now so it’s just sat there gathering dust and looking very yellow.

My kitchen is so tiny there's no point in trying to make it look bigger. I have a bunch of stuff on top of mine - an almost-dead plant, basket of tupperware, fruit, plant mister and several cook books.

I quite like a chaotic lived-in kitchen though.

TropicalMoon · 22/05/2023 16:57

A small plant

SirenSays · 22/05/2023 16:58

Rice cooker, teppanyaki grill, bamboo steamer and 4 little plants.

Phos · 22/05/2023 16:58

A wine rack. Usually well stocked.

elp30 · 22/05/2023 17:02

KingofCats · 22/05/2023 11:42

There’s a blanket and usually one or two cats

Oh my goodness they're beautiful!!🥰

One of my kitties, a Maine Coon/Tabby mix used to do the same.

Lidlpopdrinker · 22/05/2023 17:11
