A nice plant perhaps or some well placed cake tins ?? Or are you like me and shove anything and everything up there and wonder why your kitchen does not look stylish.
I have just cleaned the fridge out (I know) and removed all the junk from the top. I don't want to put it back there. Please give me some ideas Mumsnet!

The recyling box for putting stuff in before I sort it and take it outside.

Just dust

😀

SourDoughToast · 22/05/2023 12:28

A naice wooden box with a cat in it - he loves sleeping up there!

crochetmylifeaway · 22/05/2023 12:29

Sharps box and medical gloves
Spare kitchen roll
Any toys that have been confiscated for whatever reason (normally for being used to hit or throw)
Box boxes of sweets we don't usual have but we're calling to us the last time we went to Costco

UndercoverCop · 22/05/2023 12:29

Dust, it's over 2m tall. I can't reach or even see up there without a set of steps. I know how dusty it is because I had an idea I'd store vases up there. Mistake.

Kyse23 · 22/05/2023 12:30

Wax melts in boxes, and a cat that doesn't belong to me

DontForgetToBreathe · 22/05/2023 12:33

Oh I miss having the fridge that height. I used to have plant, a photo and carefully hidden wipes and a lip balm which was so handy there because… it was always there

hiredandsqueak · 22/05/2023 12:33

A box of weetabix and three cake tubs, two have baking in from the weekend. Cereal goes up there because if it goes in the cupboard it gets forgotten about.

Danikm151 · 22/05/2023 12:38

Cereal boxes

Coronationstation · 22/05/2023 12:57

dust

RinklyRomaine · 22/05/2023 12:57

Cat, and a sewing machine. A tin jug.

musixa · 22/05/2023 13:01

The instructions and guarantee for the fridge.

cannaethink · 22/05/2023 13:03

I keep a bag of potatoes up there. It’s a stupid place to keep them, it’s too warm, but it’s become habit now!
The washing basket is up there too.
I think a nice plant would look good.

A random selection of open gin/vodka/whiskey and a couple of bottles of red wine which were gifts but no one drinks it in this house. Also a box of giant chalk and a box full of dd’s old paints/brushes/pva glue etc which we are not allowed to throw away as she still uses about once a year. Oh and spare bin bags.
So generally a cluttered mess

Somanysocks · 22/05/2023 13:07

A television (and dust).

IaltagDhubh · 22/05/2023 13:10

Hats, an electric barbecue, a gift bag full of smaller gift bags, a box that might be full of recipes, and an unidentifiable white thing. DH has a habit of putting things away by shoving them on top of the fridge or any cupboard with space. Drives me insane, so when we replaced the kitchen, I insisted that the cupboards all went right up to the ceiling. Unfortunately the fridge is on the opposite side of the room, and I didn’t think to put a unit around it, so its top still gets covered in junk.

Nothing. Why would I have something on top of my fridge?

if you live with less than enough space due to not being paid enough like most of the population maybe?

Softoprider · 22/05/2023 13:47

Dog blankets. That's it. Done it now. At least they won't get covered in dust and grease and it does not look too bad.

I did try my spider plant but the leaves kept getting stuck in the door :(

Thanks for the suggestions !

I never had anything on top of my fridge when I was in a 400 sq ft flat with the world’s dinkiest one-sided galley kitchen, practically a broom closet. Just reduced the stuff I had to what fitted in the cupboard, singular. 🤷‍♀️

Snailsaresweet · 22/05/2023 14:14

Spare cake/biscuit tins, all those extra bits that come with a food processor, and my preserving pan - basically large items that won't fit in small cupboards.

Ontopofthesunset · 22/05/2023 14:21

Nothing except dust. It's a freestanding American style fridge freezer but we've got a kitchen cabinet above it which is a bit deeper than the other top cabinets on that side, as the fridge is lower than the tall cupboards around it. We built the kitchen when we already had the fridge.

dotty12345 · 22/05/2023 15:18

An extra large serving plate and a candelabra - my hair dryer and straighteners live on the serving plate.

RoseDog · 22/05/2023 15:23

I have a food mixer, steamer and slow cooker, none of them get used.

Alexa is also up there because it's the only place we could plug her in.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/05/2023 15:52

Two low baskets (previously Christmas hampers) with spare tablecloths, tea towels and aprons.
Out of sight next to them, DDog’s biscuits that get rattled enticingly several times a day.
