Just that really..

ps. I quite liked Naples. I think it’s the oldest city in Europe? You could feeeeeeeel it. It’s also not just a bunch of clueless cruise ship tourists, but a working city/port. The buildings and churches were fascinating for me, even if some of them run down despite European and UNESCO grants (mafia corruption possibly)

MidnightMeltdown · 21/05/2023 16:39

Prague - locals are rude and seem to hate tourists. Wouldn't go back.

'ps. I quite liked Naples. I think it’s the oldest city in Europe? You could feeeeeeeel it'

I loved it too. Visited last Autumn. It took about half a day to adjust to the crazy traffic and the crowds on the narrow cobbled streets, and then it was fabulous. Yes, dirty and gritty but some beautiful things to see too. Will definitely go back

If you like Naples, I highly recommend Genoa. Dirty, gritty, fabulous food and drink, lovely people, port city but much smaller, less crowded and easily walkable

LeverageLevel · 21/05/2023 16:46

@Lottapianos yes I’ve been to Genoa :), and it reminded me of Naples - but I must say I preferred Naples.

One massive disappointment I forgot was Northern Ireland’s Giant Causeway. It was somee large rocks in the sea! Fair enough, a bit interesting historically. But they’d turned it into this massive national trust tourist nonsense. There was an ugly shed-type building with ridiculous entrance fee. Beyond Pointless.

TheIsaacs · 21/05/2023 17:04

Cornwall. It’s overpriced, rained the whole bloody week and is a really long drive. There is nothing there that you can’t find in another part of the uk.

NannaKaren · 21/05/2023 17:31

Stonehenge is on the list - really?!?!?!
shocked - what were you expecting ?! Lol lol

DappledThings · 21/05/2023 17:36

I love the Giant's Causeway. I've been three times. It just amazes me seeing all those hexagonal blocks. It seems really unreal. And I like that you can clamber all over it. I'd happily go three more times at least.

Tunisia

Me too - Las Vegas! Thankfully it was just a 2 day stop but couldn't wait to leave 😢

Eden Project
Took ages to buy ticket and get in.

Woman on till doing a hard sell and explaining all the ways of supporting it. Direct debit covenanting, No No but she worked through this long script.
It was three years ago and I still hate the memory.

We didn't rate it either and we went free, or at least with Tesco vouchers!

Pollyannalola · 21/05/2023 17:40

To those who are saying New York, I think it is very much a case of where you go. Yes it's dirty and even a bit smelly in parts but has an energy that is 1000 times more exciting than London in my opinion.

Dumbo views over to Manhattan and the park and restaurants
Williamsburg thrift stores and chilled vibes
Madison Square Garden Park on a cold sunny day
Soho sitting outside at Jacks wife Freda fashion watching
The green leafy streets of Greenwich Village

There is so much more than Times Square and MidTown...

@Kathyshome l loved San Francisco when l went! I want to have some amazing Chinese food and go to Alcatraz. I’m sure you’ll have the best time

I can go in your place and you can cover my commitments. Bad news is l have 6 week old twins and they are sleeping so badly!

If the poster wants to go to Alcatraz they need to book now, on-the-day tickets can be hard to get. It's worth going over the Bridge to Sausilito tho' it can get very crowded these days. FUrther afield the wine country is a lovely way to pass a few days too.

kasiaB1985 · 21/05/2023 17:43

Paris

unreasonableornothelp · 21/05/2023 17:44

Bondi beach in Australia, so many nicer beaches to visit

Mirabai · 21/05/2023 17:51

I didn’t like NY at all. It’s like the worst bits of London thrown in together. Plus I hate tall buildings. Much preferred other US cities.

SacreBleugh · 21/05/2023 18:01

Dublin. Agree with other posters that Belfast is more interesting. Also Dubai. Not sure why I went in the first place.

Rhaenys · 21/05/2023 18:01

Paris but I was ill so that might have coloured my judgement.

Rhaenys · 21/05/2023 18:03

Oh and Dublin as well. I thought it was really bleak. However it did piss it down all day and I was on the first day of my period, so again that may have coloured my judgement.

PUGMEISTER21 · 21/05/2023 18:06

Tunisia, overcast, half unbuilt, people always trying to rip the English off anyway they can.

Lapun · 21/05/2023 18:07

Sorry about your experience of St.Lucia. I have a London home in West Hampstead and read nothing but street crime and attacks in what was a wonderful secure neighbourhood but I live in St Lucia and although there is some crime, people walk around without a worry. I guess if you are young, attractive women some men will try it on, but St.Lucia is considered safe. Tourists off cruise ships in Castries sometimes get robbed but here in Rodney Bay we see young women strolling around with no problems.

Airspice · 21/05/2023 18:08

Bondi Beach. Looked like Eastbourne or Skegness 😳

We spent three days in Genoa on our little Italian tour and absolutely loved it!! As you say, gritty, great food, friendly and very arty. We watched the most amazing piano concert there for free as we had paid a few euro to get into the palazzo where it was held. I've never seen/heard anything like it. Just beautiful.

The place in Italy that has surprised me the most is Turin where we are now. It's beautiful, so much to do and a real mixture of architecture. Lots of it feels like Paris or Geneva with wide streets and gorgeous buildings, but some of the old town is very traditionally Italian. Nothing like Genoa though 😂. Loads to do here too!

wellstopdoingitthen · 21/05/2023 18:09

Gibraltar

Scammed, short changed & sold fake aftershave in a very posh shop. Never had anything like this anywhere else.

People were rude.

Twentyfirstcenturymumma · 21/05/2023 18:10

Agree re Venice. Hated it. All that water, dark corners, pigeons crapping everywhere, claustrophobia ++++

So many beautiful cities in Italy, no idea why anyone bothers with Venice

graysquirrel · 21/05/2023 18:11

Maldives. Was on a exploring type holiday and was grim and saw a side I wasn't comfortable with.
