What cheeses do you have in your fridge? In search of exciting new cheese

Yesterday, I got some Bleu d'Auvergne for the first time. We are really enjoying it. Have never met a blue cheese I didn't like, but when grocery shopping tend to always go for Roquefort/ Danish Blue/ Cashel Blue, all firm favourites.

But I want to get more adventurous! What do you have in your fridge that you really recommend?

Love all cheeses so needn't be blue. All ideas welcome Smile

A hood taleggio is with its weight in gold. Or reblochon.

Yum.

Oh yes. Both of these in my fridge right now.

Ah, my fellow cheese people. I like cheese very, very much. If you’d asked me at lunchtime, just some cheddar, Parmesan and half a hunk of halloumi.

But my French mum has just been to see her sister and has returned home with dangerous quantities of the stuff. How she evaded sniffer dogs, lord only knows. This afternoon she and dad dropped in for a cuppa on the way back from the airport and left me a wedge of Tomme de Provence and a particularly pungent blue number she got at a market and couldn’t remember the name of.

We will be cracking open the last bottle of blanquette de Limoux from last year’s holiday stock and enjoying them in the garden tomorrow evening.

Garstang White from Booths.
And as PP said, Snowdonia Truffle Trove. Does truffle have an aphrodisiac effect? Just the smell of it! .....😊

And I think parmesan is underrated as a nibbling cheese rather than just a cooking cheese.

A little nibble of parmesan goes further than a chunk of cheddar any day!

I'm going off my cheddars now.

More creamy blues, a good feta and I've fallen in love with paneer.

CosmosQueen · 20/05/2023 05:51

Cornish Cruncher
Comte
Roquefort
A gorgeous Caerphilly

Dedodee · 20/05/2023 06:00

Not sure if it’s available in the uk but I love Vintage Mimolette. It’s very orange, a bit salty and a hard cheese. Perfect with wine.

Klex · 20/05/2023 06:50

Anster cheese is lovely.

Pedallleur · 20/05/2023 07:41

Have look at Courtyard Dairy. I was up there recently. Fantastic. They deliver as well.

Blip · 20/05/2023 07:47

Emmental
Chaource

Dolcelatte

Happyhouralways · 20/05/2023 08:43

Our fridge is currently very cheese bare - some Edam, Stilton, Brie & Double Gloucester

But OP if you are looking for cheese inspiration I can highly recommend a cheese subscription from Cheese Geek. All British cheese and all totally delicious!!

Edam was what got me hooked. DM used to buy big wedges of it (1960s) and moan like hell about how fast it got eaten.

You're either Scandinavian, or a damned liar!

TheApplianceofScience · 20/05/2023 09:19

@Gilead

It is a small farm, I wouldn’t like to go to my local cheese shop and discover they had run out. Grin

Meant to come back a few posts later, but I fell asleep. Grin

ThePuma · 20/05/2023 09:20
