What cheeses do you have in your fridge? In search of exciting new cheese

Yesterday, I got some Bleu d'Auvergne for the first time. We are really enjoying it. Have never met a blue cheese I didn't like, but when grocery shopping tend to always go for Roquefort/ Danish Blue/ Cashel Blue, all firm favourites.

But I want to get more adventurous! What do you have in your fridge that you really recommend?

Love all cheeses so needn't be blue. All ideas welcome Smile

Really trying to not eat so much bloody cheese at the moment, so reading this is a chance for me to live vicariously through all of you who have self control.

Bold of you to assume self control plays any part in the cheese bacchanalia Grin

Manchego, goat with ashes, bishop Cropwell Stilton, cheddar, pie d'angloys

New find that I really liked is a soft blue from our local deli called Blue Murder, which I bought for the name but was also delicious.

Is it just me and ageing taste buds or does blue cheese just not have the same taste? loved Danish blue as a kid and it was tangy and sharp, now not so much.

Port salut - orange and in most supermarkets. Try a stinking bishop, divine!

orangeclubsarebest · 19/05/2023 21:34

Really boring, we have cheddar, mozzarella and cheese strings which shouldn't even be called cheese 😂

pizzaHeart · 19/05/2023 21:34

We have Comte and vintage cheddar, just finished Manchego.

Tesco has 3 for £6 on some cheeses. DH and I once went and bought 6 hitch sounded unfamiliar and then had fun tasting them.

Try a blue goat’s cheese. Harbourne Blue is my favourite.

underseige05 · 19/05/2023 21:35

We always have black bomber in our fridge. Get it from booths

Fivews · 19/05/2023 21:35

I'm lucky to live close to an amazing deli that sells Irish cheeses. Young Buck is an award winning blue, Cooleeny is a camembert style..

I will own up to liking Cathedral City cheese spread and Laughing Cow triangles.

greenacrylicpaint · 19/05/2023 21:36

a block of comté
and a wedge of very old gouda
and a pack of danish cave cheese (very smelly!)

stinkingbishop · 19/05/2023 21:37

Um...Stinking Bishop!

WhoHidTheCoffee · 19/05/2023 21:37

Morbier! You’ll like it.😊

Augend23 · 19/05/2023 21:37

The exciting ones I have in my fridge are black bomber and a scooping gorgonzola.

Not in my fridge but : I love comte, baron bigod (a British brie de mieux style cheese), picos de Europa (though this is a serious commitment to blue cheese!), Amber mist (a whisky infused cheddar, probably my favourite hard cheese). Those are probably my top cheeses.

WhoHidTheCoffee · 19/05/2023 21:38

We don’t actually have any in the fridge right now….but if I was let loose on a cheese counter, that would be my pick.

OldTinHat · 19/05/2023 21:38

Just bought some Briddlesford Red. I thought it would be a bit like Red Leicester but, no! Nothing like it! Very creamy and melty and I've been picking at it every time I wander past the fridge...!

greenacrylicpaint · 19/05/2023 21:38

I love appenzeller, so tangy it makes the tongue tingle.

SleazyLizzard · 19/05/2023 21:39

Triple cream cheese

orangeclubsarebest · 19/05/2023 21:40

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain a laughing cow triangle is the best little snack!

Enko · 19/05/2023 21:41

Out of season at the moment but nothing beats Mont d'Or Vacherin My all-time favourite cheese.

My favourite blue cheese is likely Shropshire Blue. Also very fond of Cashel Blue and Fourme D'ambert Sometimes a gorgonzola too :) (Ive also never met a blue cheese I don't like)

In the fridge at the moment (note we are BIG cheese eaters)

Blue Castello
Stilton
Brie
Camembert
Epoisse
Charoux
Charoux soft (they were out and it was substituted)
Reblochon
I think there is a bit of Ticklemore left too.
3 different cheddars (1 for cooking)
Feta
Mozzarella
Halloumi

Though both dh and I are meat eaters there is a small piece of chicken for a sandwich in the fridge (I say sandwich I obviously mean the dog) and some smoked salmon. DH eats cheese every lunchtime.

Oldraver · 19/05/2023 21:42

Double cream brie from Waitrose, any Kalbach

hexsnidgett · 19/05/2023 21:43

Double gloucester
Somerset brie
Tickler
Kidderton Ash goats cheese
And laughing cowGrin

GailTheFish · 19/05/2023 21:43

A small amount of ageing cheddar currently in the fridge, but if I’m living vicariously my ideal cheeses would be:

  • Snowdonia Truffle Trove cheddar with black truffle
  • Pié d’Angloys
  • Stichelton blue cheese
