What cheeses do you have in your fridge? In search of exciting new cheese

Yesterday, I got some Bleu d'Auvergne for the first time. We are really enjoying it. Have never met a blue cheese I didn't like, but when grocery shopping tend to always go for Roquefort/ Danish Blue/ Cashel Blue, all firm favourites.

But I want to get more adventurous! What do you have in your fridge that you really recommend?

Love all cheeses so needn't be blue. All ideas welcome Smile

Some vintage cheddar, a ball of mozzarella, feta, philadelphia, and some Castello pineapple and almond cheese (which I love, but end up eating far too much of, on a salty cracker 🤤)

FunnyFunn · 19/05/2023 21:43

Babybel mmmm

Getabloominmoveon · 19/05/2023 21:43

Many of the above, especially Comte, and the Stinking Bishop, would add a Gorgonzola piccante, and a Chaource (yum). But in the winter the king of cheese is undoubtedly Vacherin Mont D’Or!

A small amount of ageing cheddar currently in the fridge, but if I’m living vicariously my ideal cheeses would be:

  • Snowdonia Truffle Trove cheddar with black truffle
  • Pié d’Angloys
  • Stichelton blue cheese

Now off to drool over the Neals Yard Dairy website…

You are a bad influence!

Lincolnshire poacher and smoked poacher are both excellent cheeses.

Also love a bit of Boursin.

hexsnidgett · 19/05/2023 21:44

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain a laughing cow triangle is the best little snack!

I like them spread on an oatcake but sometimes I can't be bothered with the oatcake....😅

I came back to say Gorgonzola piccante so pleased to see it has another fan.

Blueberrycreampie · 19/05/2023 21:46

Vintage cheddar - my favourite and some mature goats cheese from Dorset but matured in Wookey Hole. I also have Gorgonzola and some cream cheese for a cheesecake - if I can be bothered to make it😊

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/05/2023 21:47

Neal's Yard website, you say?

We do have a local cheese shop and I do need to branch out a bit after reading this thread. I tend to limit myself to Waitrose.

Have never met a blue cheese I didn't like

Is it just me and ageing taste buds or does blue cheese just not have the same taste? loved Danish blue as a kid and it was tangy and sharp, now not so much.

Oh no that just means you have to experience more 🙂 try Roquefort 😁

Also a tub of Marscapone.

I bought DH a cheese subscription for Christmas (after the enormous success of the Paxton and Whitfield cheese advent calendar). It has been amazing.

Someone has already mentioned Baron Bigod but Truffled Baron is just a-mazing

Just finished some Gruyère, only other ones in the fridge at the moment are a Brie, a mature cheddar and my daughter’s babybels.
Am also a fan of Apetina white cheese, Gouda, Applewood smoked, Castello blue and quite a lot of other stuff.
However the main reason for commenting was to say that Stinking Bishop is the worst cheese I’ve ever tasted! Almost made me gag and I had to bin it!

DilkushaKitchen · 19/05/2023 21:57

Beauvale is one of my recent favourites, I have to go to the cheese shop to get it though. It's a lovely creamy blue cheese from Cropwell Bishop.

Bubbles254 · 19/05/2023 22:00

My current favourite is Reflets de France Neufchatel cheese PDO from unpasteurised milk from ocado. It is creamy but with a lovely subtle tang. They have some really yummy French cheeses in this range.

redspottedmug · 19/05/2023 22:01

I have a Burrata- it's for my supper tomorrow. Serving suggestions welcomed!

There's also a chunk of not very exciting mature cheddar for sandwiches.

blueraininlondon · 19/05/2023 22:04

Parmason, Feta and Chedder

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 19/05/2023 22:04

I have a smoked goats cheese, Lincolnshire poacher, single Gloucester, Y Fenni, and some Caerphilly.
the poacher is my favourite

StaunchMomma · 19/05/2023 22:05

I have a wheel of reblochon in the fridge.

It may not be tartiflette season but when the World gives you reduced reblochon.......😋

ChrisPPancake · 19/05/2023 22:20

Only mousetrap and Parmesan at the moment and Dairylea because it's shopping day tomorrow. I intend to visit the vending machine at the electric cow and get some smoked and garlic and nettle.

newtb · 19/05/2023 22:27

There's a lovely ewe's milk cheese made by Zyrax with chillies. Must go hunting for some.
Finished a chaource this evening, was just going runny.
