20 yo DS2 cooked dinner tonight

I could cry.

I know, ridiculous right? But he's had such a horrible time since lockdown and then his dad died and he retreated right inside himself, lost his job, tried uni but that didn't work out. He's barely spoken to anyone for a year and doesn't eat except junk in the middle of the night.

This evening he has googled a recipe, done the shopping, cooked the dinner and sat at the table to eat it with me. And it was delicious.

Honestly, I am crying writing this.

So? Regardless of if OP suggested he cooked dinner. He actually did. They even ate and spent time together.

That's the important thing. It doesn't matter if OP asked or not. This is a turning point for someone who has shut themselves off from the world. No wonder OP is so delighted.

You didn't have to pick apart what they said. It's such a lovely thread.

Im so sorry for your loss too op

This has made my night. Shedding a tear with you OP. I lost my brother to suicide when he was 19. People underestimate how difficult this period of life is for many, especially boys.

I work with children like yours. This is a red letter day.
Sending much love and a huge hug for you. It's a tough road.

That's lovely, I welled up just reading it! Hope it sparks and interest in him and he cooks many more meals.

Wow.

Well done @Connect3 's son.

OP

Do you think he has been building up to this?

It's a good sign, and it doesn't matter that you suggested it, he still did it.
