20 yo DS2 cooked dinner tonight

I could cry.

I know, ridiculous right? But he's had such a horrible time since lockdown and then his dad died and he retreated right inside himself, lost his job, tried uni but that didn't work out. He's barely spoken to anyone for a year and doesn't eat except junk in the middle of the night.

This evening he has googled a recipe, done the shopping, cooked the dinner and sat at the table to eat it with me. And it was delicious.

Honestly, I am crying writing this.

Fantastic! A corner being turned 🤞

Love this ! Well done to your son!

TheBucketWoman · 19/05/2023 20:56

This is so heartwarming. I hope this is the first of many meals you and your son share together.

OP thanks for sharing this, it gives me hope. One of my daughters really hit a wall during lockdown snd is still coming back from it. It's so good to hear of kids who manage to move on.

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 19/05/2023 21:00

oh that's lovely! may this be many more to come and many more steps for him. Just wonderful.

PurelyBelter · 19/05/2023 21:06

Aw, I can imagine my mam writing something like this when I was 19/20. I didn’t go through anything as awful as your son (and yourself, I am sorry for your loss). But I was very depressed and retreated. I think the day I turned a corner and went shopping with my mam (just to the local square of shops to get a few bits) she cried (in secret). Having a supportive parent is really an incredible thing. Flowers

Bizarrely a minced beef curry. It was very good.

Shopped, cooked, sat down and ate. That's a massive achievement. Well done to him and you, and I hope it marks a turning point for you all 💕

So lovely. And he must feel so pleased with himself. Even if he doesn't show it, big that one up massively. Huge step forwards x

I suggested he might like to choose and cook something for dinner.

I'm so happy for you.
My son with ASD has started cooking weekly since I got HelloFresh for a few weeks to get his confidence up (he's now googling like your son) and I secretly weep every time!

FrenchieF · 19/05/2023 22:38
