Dawson's Creek - OMG wtf?! Was it really that bad?

Hi,

I grew up with this show and loved it! Didn't bother with the college years, but loved the first few series as an early-mid teen.

I suggested my teen dd watched it a few days a go, as noticed a re run from the beginning but wow, it's so bad!

I don't remember it being so racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and oh yes, then there's the casual paedophilia story line! And did they actually talk about anything other than sex?! I mean, I know it's a coming of age, teen angst drama, but it's just ridiculous. All of the characters are unlikeable at best. The script is awful, the writing is amateurish.

I asked my dd what she thought and she basically said it was crap. It hasn't aged well.

Not sure why I needed to rant about this 😂 but here it is!

It's not available on any of the UK platforms, unfortunately. I bought the box set from Amazon years ago.

That's a shame, I would have liked to see it again. Party of Five too.

I never liked Dawson either, he always came across as a goodie two shoes know it all.
I loved Pacey though.
But yes - I watched a couple of episodes last year and it’s pretty awful.

Dawson was so awful but it is hilarious that in his own show, designed around his friendship and love with Joey and lots of talk about sex – it was THE racy, scandalous show, he: got overshadowed by Joey-Pacey, ended up alone, didn’t lose his virginity till season five or six when they were all in college, and wasn’t even in all of the episodes by the end.

Think I'm on episode 4 or 5 now (not sure why I'm sticking with it....) and Miss Jacobs (who's 36! HA!) and Pacey were caught out. From a student over hearing the gossip in the toilets, to a court hearing, around 2 hours had passed. Oh and then another hour for Miss Jacobs to have sold up and moved out!

I liked Jen but Dawson annoyed the crap out of me. Such a drip. I managed a few epsiodes but never felt the love, as it were. Hollyoaks on the other hand? I loved that show. The original cast and early seasons had some quite amusing moments amongst all the soapy angst.

Dawson was always a prat.

Pacey, however, woke my teenage heart 😍

I only watched the odd episode of the early series of DC at the time, but started watching it a couple of days ago and am really enjoying it. I was a huge Party of Five fan. The last series or two were only on Sky so I'd give my friend videos and he'd record it for me. A few years ago I started rewarching it on Netflix but soon gave up as it had lost its magic for me - in the first series I used to cry most episodes and loved Charlie.

My sister was a party of five fan.

Just watching now and one girl is in detention for having an ecstasy fuelled orgy in the boys locker room, I mean WTF!

She said that to appear wild. It wasn't true.

And got punished by God for it!
