.. do you:
A) put it on when you go to bed and leave it wet in the machine until morning?
B) load the machine and set the timer so it finishes at 6am?

B

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 19/05/2023 16:13

The second one. Always set the timer so it finishes close to our get up time

Oh, and meant to add does it change what you do if some of the washing to be washed is damp/wet/sweaty?

B, obviously. Why would you do A?! It would have a horrible damp smell.

No. It can sit overnight without a problem.

Brendabigbaps · 19/05/2023 16:14

B everytime. Plus it gives time for the stain spray to work!

Myn · 19/05/2023 16:15

I tend to prefer it to finish as I wake up

From just overnight? I’ve never had that when I’ve forgotten about it, but it would be creased.

IglesiasPiggl · 19/05/2023 16:16

Set the timer. Option A just doesn't make sense, why would you do that?

DamnAndDashIt · 19/05/2023 16:18

Mine goes on a timer for whatever programme it's on to be finished by 4:30am. Because that's when our cheap electricity tariff ends!

Never had an issue with smelly washing, it always smells lovely.

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 19/05/2023 16:18

B, now we have a machine with a timer. Before we got one, I’d sometimes do A, and that was fine, too.

Murpe · 19/05/2023 16:20

B, but it sometimes wakes me earlier than I need, as my machine sometimes likes to make annoying adjustments to the cycle length mid-wash, cutting out up to about an hour at times. This means it gets to the louder, spinning bit quicker!

reluctantbrit · 19/05/2023 16:22

B. I found that when it sits too long in a sealed machine it does smell a bit. So unless I can hang it outside B is the only way.

Damp/sweaty is not a problem.

Kpo58 · 19/05/2023 16:22

C) Use my washer dryer to also dry the clothes overnight.

Sandysandwich · 19/05/2023 16:23

If I need to wash it overnight I do A as we don't have a timer on our washer, I put it on about 12 or 1 when we go to bed and dry it on the line in the morning its fine.

No it won't.

I always do A

EggInANest · 19/05/2023 16:43

My integrated machine has no timer / accessible plug, so A.

Actually I turn it on when I go for a wee because my cheap nighttime electricity is 12-5am.

It never smells.

PiriPiriChicken · 19/05/2023 16:46

A. 😳

Today I learned that washing machines have timers?

bladebladebla1 · 19/05/2023 16:46

Can't be bothered to work out the timer. My clothes never smell damp after sitting over night

Ponderingwindow · 19/05/2023 16:48

No timer, so A.
never noticed any problems.

TheShellBeach · 19/05/2023 16:48

Oh dear. I do all my washing during the day.

<<<slinks away from thread in disgrace>>>

Lifesyoungdream · 19/05/2023 16:49

A. Never any problems with it either.

EBearhug · 19/05/2023 16:50

A, because I have no timer. It would need to be left longer than a few hours to go smelly.

Cola2534 · 19/05/2023 16:51

After my washing machine got stuck on the "fill" part of the cycle and I came down in the morning to a completely flooded kitchen diner I no longer run it overnight or when I'm out.

TomatoSandwiches · 19/05/2023 16:55

It's not recommended to put your washing on a cycle if you're going to sleep, fire hazard.

If your washing or the machine is smelling a but musty after an hour of sitting then you probably need to do a maintenance cycle and remember to leave the door open after each use.

I do mine in the day, timer and phone alert on so I can get it out as soon as it is done, shake and hang up or out and no need to iron.
