.. do you:
A) put it on when you go to bed and leave it wet in the machine until morning?
B) load the machine and set the timer so it finishes at 6am?

Neither, because a house fire when you're in bed would really suck

DyslexicPoster · 19/05/2023 17:29

A. It's never gone smelly overnight. Not sure how to even use the timer

Ungratefulorunreasonable · 19/05/2023 17:34

A.

But I often put my washer on in the morning and leave it until I get home from work to get it out, I don't see the difference.

No issues with a damp/ mildew smell unless I leave it for 24hours+

I can’t hear it from the rest of the house, and we have E7 electricity so it goes on overnight.

I'd rather a house fire when I'm in bed than when I'm out of the house during the day - we have linked smoke alarms throughout the house so would wake up very quickly. I think driers are a bigger risk than washers anyway.

gogohmm · 19/05/2023 17:35

A, haven't got a timer. I use the 3 hr 40 min eco wash

sevenbyseven · 19/05/2023 17:36

Admittedly either would suck though 😁

DappledThings · 19/05/2023 17:38

B. There's nothing complicated about the timer on mine. You just turn it on the press the Delay End button once for every hour you want to delay it by.

This. I do mine when I am home during the day.

you are not supposed to run them at night or when you are out

TheIsaacs · 19/05/2023 17:41

B, set it so that it finishes just before our cheaper electricity tariff ends.

I set the dishwasher to run during that time too.

Ponderingwindow · 19/05/2023 17:44

Interesting about the advice not to run at night. In our area we get asked to run at night to reduce strain on the electric grid.

Leftphalange100 · 19/05/2023 17:45

I dont do either option. I don't run it when asleep or out. I wash in the evening when home from work. Switch off overnight. Then hang out in the morning to dry before work

EversoDisorganised · 19/05/2023 17:49

Put it on about 9 so its finished before we go to bed, either hang it out at bedtime or the next morning, it never smells of damp. Never run it while we're asleep because of the fire/flood risk.

You really wouldn't say that if you had ever been in a house fire.

I don't have a 3hour, 40 minute window between getting in from work and being in bed! So it's run it when I'm in bed or when I'm out the house!

Badbudgeter · 19/05/2023 17:55

Put it on a long wash. Cottons take 4 hours! That way it’s just a few hours till I’m up.

You don't run it when you're out either!

Washing machines are just as hazardous as driers.

WhatNoRaisins · 19/05/2023 18:06

B.

If I only ran my washing machine when I was in and awake I'd never have enough clean clothes. Decided it's worth the low risk of a house fire.

I've never had a damp smell if left overnight but I often put it on at around one am (sometimes later if il up!) and I or DH are up again at 6 or so so it doesn't sit for long enough to smell.

A. Mine doesn't have a timer. Pop it on about 10pm, three and a half hour cycle, up at 5am and it's out on the line. So, three and a half hours left in the machine after it's finished with the door shut, it doesn't smell when I take it out. Well, only of detergent!

WeAreTheHeroes · 19/05/2023 18:17

NameChange30 · 19/05/2023 16:13

B, obviously. Why would you do A?! It would have a horrible damp smell.

Huh? No it doesn't. It's okay for a couple of days too. No stinkiness if it's actually properly washed.
