.. do you:
A) put it on when you go to bed and leave it wet in the machine until morning?
B) load the machine and set the timer so it finishes at 6am?

Can't believe how many people say B as if A is ridiculous 😂 washing isn't going to smell damp after 8ish hours sat in a closed washing machine!

JaninaDuszejko · 19/05/2023 16:57

I put it pn first thing in the morning (same with dishwasher). Far safer than having a potential electricl fire when everyone in the house is asleep.

timetochangethename · 19/05/2023 16:58

A had noidea washing machines had timers! Our plug is literally behind the machine so I couldn't even stick a timer thing on that.

Gizlotsmum · 19/05/2023 16:59

Input it on timer to use cheap electricity so it normally finishes a couple of hours before we get up

A. 😳

Today I learned that washing machines have timers?

Mine sends me an alert on my phone to say he's finished the job 😂

Redebs · 19/05/2023 16:59

I usually do A because my machine is clean and washes properly, so clothes damp for a few hours overnight don't get smelly.

Nothingisblackandwhite · 19/05/2023 17:02

I put mine around 11 pm , I never fall asleep before 12:30 so came down stairs to put it in the tumble dryer

Loverofoxbowlakes · 19/05/2023 17:04

A.

It takes 2 days for wet washing to start to smell funky in my machine this is the result of many years' experience

stayathomer · 19/05/2023 17:04

A but it doesn’t smell bad after?

TheOrigRights · 19/05/2023 17:04

IglesiasPiggl · 19/05/2023 16:16

Set the timer. Option A just doesn't make sense, why would you do that?

Because setting the timer is a higher level function I haven't been arsed to work out yet!

TheLeadbetterLife · 19/05/2023 17:05

A, because we once checked how much electricity the stand-by timer setting used and it was surprisingly high. We set the timer as close as possible to when the cheap rate kicks in (midnight).

There's no way wet washing will go musty after a few hours in a sealed washing machine.

A, because this ^

Kentishbornknitter · 19/05/2023 17:06

A or if its going to be nice the next day and I have an early start I wash it in the evening and hang it out before going to bed.. My kitchen is below the bedroom so I would hate to be woken up by the washing machine.

Same here!

Always do A, never had an issue with it at all! 🤷‍♀️

NancyJoan · 19/05/2023 17:08

I usually put it on about 8, it’s beeps like mad when it finishes, and would wake me if I put it on later. Same problem w the timer. It’s not reliable, and might start at 4am and start yelling at me at 5.

if it finishes at 9pm, it’s only in the machine about ten hours before I hang it out.

Same. I often leave it for a day if it say goes in on a Monday night, it’s rainy Tuesday but sunny Wednesday. Only smells after 2 or 3 days. I’m not organised enough to check and do it according to the weather 😂

Exactly! In fact my bathmats haven’t been hung out yet after 2 days as it has been drizzly.

HAF1119 · 19/05/2023 17:09

A, the machine has a timer but I wake up if the machine comes on in the night as it does this weird erratic beeping mid wash (probably means something but I ignore it as the clothes are clean) and I don't want it to wake me. I used to timer it pre beeping... it definately doesn't smell from an overnight in the machine though

RunningFromInsanity · 19/05/2023 17:11

A because my machine doesn’t have a timer.

5childrenand · 19/05/2023 17:18

My machine has a timer and I still do A. Never have an issue with smelly washing. I look after my machine though, clean it regularly including the tray & filter and always leave the door open etc.

ASGIRC · 19/05/2023 17:18

Usually B.
I set it so that it finishes before 8am, as thats when my cheap electricity ends.

However, sometimes I might run it after 10pm (when cheap eletricity starts), with the intention of hanging it up as it finishes, but then end up not doing it cause I was lazy, and it will sit in the machine until I get up.
No bad smells there!

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/05/2023 17:19

A because I can’t be Arsed to do B.

InSpainTheRain · 19/05/2023 17:20

B, It doesn't change what I wash - I just dump it in and leave it.

bedtimestories · 19/05/2023 17:22

I never use the delayed timer because it uses more electricity, it might only be 1p (I'm guessing) but I'd rather spend it on something else. Never had a problem leaving my washing overnight before it is hung out to dry

AnxiousPixie · 19/05/2023 17:25

A else it wakes me up when it comes on early in the morning. Never had a damp smell.
