Has anyone else had a DBS done recently? Mine has been absolutely shocking. It's still not here after over 2 months! When I call them, they get rude with me as if I am the problem. Any advise pelsee

I’ve not had this issued but I know someone who did and she got her MP involved. Problem solved within a fortnight.

Doublechins · 19/05/2023 13:30

They are supposed to do them in 60 days and you can't chase them until the 60 day mark. Had mine renews recently and I got it on exactly day 60. Mine was the enhanced one. My husband just needed the standard and his was back in 10 days.

iknowwhatyoudid · 19/05/2023 13:33

Yup, applied for mine February 23rd. I chased it May 12th as thought it was ridiculous how long I was waiting. Funnily enough the certificate turned up in the post yesterday. I applied at the same time as a friend, via our local FA, and hers came through within a week! Think it's just pot luck at the moment.

justanothernamechangemonday · 19/05/2023 13:35

I started mine last September. Still not complete.

lifeturnsonadime · 19/05/2023 13:35

No mine came through really quickly (4 weeks)

Chowtime · 19/05/2023 13:36

Have you moved house a lot?

Pac35 · 19/05/2023 13:46

Mine has been a disaster. It took 78 days. It was after mat leave so I ended up not being paid for 6 months (I had planned for 3 months as I had been given a start date). This has been disastrous for our finances.

No responses. Just told 'there are delays' I put in two formal complaints [email protected] and I got the dbs through on the day of the second complaint. May have been a coincidence but wish I hadn't left it so long

I also emailed my mp but no response

SbeBd3 · 19/05/2023 16:29

Thank you for all your messages everyone. It's literally given me such bad anxiety. I cannot believe there is nothing they can do before 60 days! It finally got through to stage 5 after u escelated it and surprise surprise, it's been stuck there! Just awful :( been out of pocket for 3 months now! X

@Chowtime I moved to a new city in February. Applied for the DBS with new address. Reckon that could be a factor? Xx

@justanothernamechangemonday no way??????? Please tell me you are joking?? And what have they done about that please??

elderflowerandpomelo · 19/05/2023 16:31

God this is terrible. I had my last one done a year ago and it was back in a week! What is going on???

PuttingDownRoots · 19/05/2023 16:34

Its totally random, both mine and DHs came back within a week despite having a past non-UK address on it. But there's been multiple threads on MN about them taking ages.

Timeforabiscuit · 19/05/2023 16:35

I've heard of problems and delays, I now know to talk to the recruiting manager and agree that the manager will ensure I do not work on sensitive information whilst awaiting my dbs, and that I am happy to start my contract and mandatory training, also that I acknowledge that any problems with DBS would mean my contract would be withdrawn as part of my probationary period.

Think it's 90% bullcrap, but it sufficiently reassured hr and meant I got started!

justanothernamechangemonday · 19/05/2023 18:59

Mine is being done through OFSTED, I've got the certificate (took 6 months) but there's still an element outstanding (according to an email I have).

NorthernChinchilla · 19/05/2023 19:33

What I would guess is that DBS need to get their info from the Police. The Police units who deal with the info are swamped because of the Police Uplift Programme, and the need to recruit 1000s of new officers.
Those PUP officers are prioritised, so any other vetting, whether internal or external, is delayed.

MarchingOnTogether · 19/05/2023 19:37

I'm a childminder. When I did mine for registration it took almost 4 months (that was 9 years ago)
Since then I've registered 4 assistants, some took 2-3 weeks, others 3 months but none as long as mine x
The first few stages fly through, it's the police check bit that it always gets held up at but nothing u can do except wait

Vitriolinsanity · 19/05/2023 19:39

Once the DBS reaches the police search stage there is a wait of up to 60 days before anyone; employers, employees etc can do anything to progress it.

Can I advise you ti register the certificate with the DBS Update Service when it arrives. This means it is always "live". You can give written permission to anyone to view the status of your certificate. Makes it transportable.

ladygindiva · 19/05/2023 19:42

I had one done beginning of May, received it approx 10 days later.

TidyDancer · 19/05/2023 19:45

I had one done in April, from the day I applied it took maybe four days. I was surprised it was that quick tbh.

Sleepyteach · 19/05/2023 20:13

I had one earlier in the year and it was back within 10 days. I’ve just done another one this week so will see how long that one takes.

AceofPentacles · 19/05/2023 20:34

Four months from January 2023. The Met are always pretty bad

eurochick · 19/05/2023 22:21

Mine was back in a week in March.

amoretti · 19/05/2023 22:45

That's strange. I have had two done recently for work and with both mine I got a text within an hour saying mine had been approved...and three or four days later they arrived in the post.
One was enhanced and one a standard one

SbeBd3 · 20/05/2023 09:59

@amoretti wow. Maybe it is just down to luck then x

It also helps if the type of docs you're sending are Type A: driver's license,
Passport and council tax bill are the ones that sail through.
