Has anyone else had a DBS done recently? Mine has been absolutely shocking. It's still not here after over 2 months! When I call them, they get rude with me as if I am the problem. Any advise pelsee

This was in March. For a school setting.

You can't predict how long these things will take though!

School HR here - it's really random how long they are taking. But more are taking two months plus than I have ever experienced. And some of those are young people with a stable address history. Speaking to our umbrella body it's the local police force resourcing issues, and nothing you can do until the 60 day mark.

We submitted one in January that hasn’t come back yet. For a new school governor -so she can’t perform any of her duties.

It also helps if the type of docs you're sending are Type A: driver's license,
Passport and council tax bill are the ones that sail through.

I don't have a driver's licence or passport and mine was really quick. I used a ID card, council tax bill and I can't remember what else.

I have lived at the same address for 11 years, don't know if that matters.

My DDs was done recently...back in 3 weeks.

When it comes through, put it on the update service. It saves you from applying for a new one every time you start a new job/volunteer position that requires one. It costs £13 a year and you just give new employers a few details and they can go online and get a copy of it much more quickly.

I posted on anothet thread about this yesterday. Several of us from the voluntary group I am with sent our applications off on the same day. Everyone else got their certificates back in less than 2 weeks but mine remained stuck at the police check stage for absolutely ages. I have lived in the same place for 20 years, don't have a dark past, have never even had another name, and have had multiple DBS checks without problem before, so it was obvious to me that it must have got lost in the system somehow. But of course I fell foul of the 60 day thing and nobody would even look into it.
I'm the only person in our small organisation that can do a particular thing so we were having to turn children away whilst I was waiting. I contacted the Police and Crime Commissioner for our county and asked if they could help. I got my certificate 3 days later. I never got an explanation, but I could get on with my volunteering again so I didn't worry too much about that. Not the approved route of complaint of course, but it worked for me so might be worth considering.

Sleepyteach · 24/05/2023 06:36

I took my documents to work on Thursday, had email Friday to say it had been all sent off, just woken up to an email this morning to say that the certificate had been printed and it was on its way. Don’t think I’ve ever had one turned around so quick. (Sorry!)

WonderingWanda · 24/05/2023 07:01

I've just had done one, filled out the form last week and had a notification to say it had been issued at the weekend and the certificate arrived yesterday.
