Anyone want to join me for a CLEANING DAY?

I need group motivation.

I've cleaned the fridge, that's as far as I've gotten.

My goals

Bathroom general tiday
Clean tiles that have gotten gross

General kitchen tidy

Living room organisation
Mop floors.

Put washing away.

I'll come back each time I've done something.

Spotify playlist :90s dance

🧹🧼🧽👊

People actually choose to spend a whole day cleaning?! Absolutely not - life is far, far too short.

No I don't.

I have ADHD, anxiety, depression, agoraphobia and my house is a tip.

I avoid cleaning 98% of the time.

I have a hone visit this week so I need to do it.

I'm in. Post party clean up to do, 4 loads of washing and 2 x bakers of ironing and all of the putting away.

MintJulia · 01/05/2023 11:44

I've washed down the wall behind the hob, and painted it with white egg shell because it had cheap emulsion on that rubbed away if cleaned. Washed the brushes, put the paint and ladder away.

Now I'm going to hit my bedroom. Bedding, hoover, dust, clean the windows, put clothes away. Mend one of the blinds..

What's the best way to get rid of mould spots on the window sealant?

I remember when MN used to be a friendly, encouraging place. (Been here 19 years)

I miss that, alot, as someone who doesn't have RL friends I used to get a lot of support here when my kids were little. It's changed so much that just a happy, motivational cleaning thread gets mean and sarcastic replies.

I don't understand people :(

It makes me sad.

Nope. No cleaning today. It's a holiday. Chores can wait.

Exactly!

Hi @GhostOfABanana

I’m here to be encouraging! Also an oldie.

How are you doing and what is left on your list!

GhostOfABanana · 01/05/2023 11:46

Well today is no different to any other Monday for me, apart from a couple of teenagers snoring away in bed, so it's a good a day as any to try and get some stuff done.

Can you rope in the teenagers for anything later on? Mine will generally comply for a timed ‘half hour blitz’.

Thankyou!

I'm still on the kitchen as I decided to sort out my food cupboards. The tin jenga was becoming a dangerous game each time the door was open.

I them discovered a squeezy container of golden syrup had spilled all over the top shelves so I'm giving sponge baths to packets of pasta 😂

Yes, they'll sort the washing, do their rooms and also the garden :)

You have lots of nice replies!

But this is MN and if you post a cleaning thread on a Bank Hol you know what some posters will say

I’m still in bed (house a complete tip, I also have ADHD) but about to get up and embark on a big clean as have a pal coming over at 2pm.

I always get distracted and leave everything till the last minute, been watching the snooker all weekend 😀

Same, I've put it off for weeks but have someone coming Wednesday so I need to do it now. The imminent threat of a visitor is golden motivation 😂

Sitting here with a pot of tea, looking at the layer of dust on the bookcase.... somebody ought to sort that...

I live alone.......🤔🤔

declutteringmymind · 01/05/2023 11:54

Right dishwasher reloaded.

Next, wash load in and podcast on to tidy up.

Might do some squats and lunges along the way.

elp30 · 01/05/2023 11:57

I've rented a machine and am steam cleaning the carpet in my entire house today.

I spent yesterday cleaning from top to bottom. I cleaned all the blinds in the house (there are 24 covered windows), cleaned the actual windows, moved all the furniture off the floor, vacuumed everywhere including all the edges/skirting boards. The actual rug cleaning shouldn't take too long, probably two hours. I'll spend the day out of the house to let the carpet dry out and put everything back in the evening.

Boy is my day exciting!

Cincinnatus · 01/05/2023 11:58

Oh god, yes. Sat and Sun I did absolutely nothing and it’s a bomb site. Just waiting for my husband and son to go out and then I will get started.

Beezknees · 01/05/2023 11:59

Yes. I want to clean the fridge, change the beds and hoover the whole flat.

Greentree1 · 01/05/2023 12:02

More of a garden blitz here, planted out climbing beans, perpetual spinach, swiss chard and black kale. Now resting my knees and back! Next the greenhouse needs clearing out and reorganising for the summer. Tomatoes need putting in final positions and tying in, growing trays need emptying and taking out to make space, hence big plant out this morning. Early potatoes in tubs need earthing up, I'll never finish today! Nice dinner to cook later for BH, and maybe a bottle of fizz.

SallySunrise · 01/05/2023 12:03

This thread has given me the shove i needed. I've just done a half hour blast of the junk room.

The letting agents have been doing "virtual" inspections, but if i don't send the photos they'll set up an in person appointment. The work involved for the virtual inspection is the lesser of two evils. I just have to make myself do it!

Because it's not some existential question with differing opinions designed to create a conversational thread.

It's a thread for people who want some motivation to clean.

If you didn't want to join me why click and comment. Just scroll on.

If you're not TTC do you click in those threads and tell people you currently use condoms? 😂

🤣🤣🤣

Plans are for both bathrooms today

hoping the sun stays out to get some washing dry, if so will iron later (my all time most hated chore)

love a bit of 90’s dance

RuthTopp · 01/05/2023 12:12

I've just cleaned the windows - indoors . We've had builders next door for many months , maybe a year coming and going so my outside hasn't been done in that time as just didn't seem worth it , and they have dust and grime and smears all over them..
Having a cup of tea then going out to do them.
I could be some time 😮

RealLife101 · 01/05/2023 12:15

Ok, in 1 hour & 10 mins I’ve managed to:

-Empty recycling and rubbish and clean bins
-Unload clean dishwasher
-Wash some pans that were soaking overnight
-Wipe down kitchen surfaces & cupboard doors, clean sink & hob & microwave (kitchen wasn’t that bad really)
-Sweep and mop kitchen floor
-Put on a load of laundry

Quite unpressed with myself!

Having a coffee and then going to clean our downstairs loo and hallway, and give the living room a declutter.

I’ve got DH cleaning the bathroom and doing the hoovering.

spinachsmoothie · 01/05/2023 12:17

I'll join! My cleaner came yesterday but I can only afford to pay her for 3 hours a fortnight at the moment. So the house is mostly nice and clean but there are lots of jobs that still need doing

  • clean & organise fridge
  • clean microwave
  • clean inside of kitchen windows
  • change bed sheets
  • put laundry away
  • sort through kids clothes that are too small

I avoid cleaning 98% of the time.

I have a hone visit this week so I need to do it.

I also have ADHD and my symptoms are raging lately. I can’t keep any thought in my head for more than a second, so I REALLY need to get motivated to clean and then I just have to hammer it until it’s done with music blaring and with timed coffee breaks in between. It’s the only way.

If I let any other thought creep in I get sidetracked and I won’t do it.

Thanks for this thread OP Flowers
