Where would you go?

Was talking to my DP last night, and I said that my choice would be North Wales because its my absolutely favourite place and I dont think I would ever get bored of it.

Thanks @TulipTuesday We've done Church Stretton by train before and it was lovely. Is Ludlow worth a visit?

Because with all the second homes that are bought in the SW mean that it's very difficult for locals to buy. Also the places may be left empty most of the year and so there's no community, no one to spend money at the local shop and they become like ghost towns. Salcombe in Devon is a prime example.

OP it would either be Snowdonia or the very end of Cornwall. But I'd hate to never be able to go abroad for proper, reliable sunshine.

Where did the poster say it was a second home?

DisforDarkChocolate · 30/04/2023 17:51

London.

HisOliveTree · 30/04/2023 17:52

I'd go for the NW coast of Scotland - Gairlich, Poolewe, that area.

Second would be Argyll and Bute, then Northumberland.

Singleandproud · 30/04/2023 17:54

London, I love the history and culture.
We live in a seaside town with beautiful beach so those sort of holiday destinations don't appeal.

afaloren · 30/04/2023 18:04

Anglesey

REP22 · 30/04/2023 18:20

Dartmoor. That's what it looks like in Heaven.

HolidaysSunnyDays · 30/04/2023 18:23

Gower. Big skies, light, huge empty beaches, miles of walking. Peace. Heaven

transformandriseup · 30/04/2023 18:32

Bude, North Cornwall. It's a lovely place and about 1.5 hours drive from home near St Ives so it would feel like a holiday even though we would still be in the same county.

Riapia · 30/04/2023 19:05

Harlyn Bay Cornwall.

Squirrelsnut · 30/04/2023 19:08

Highgate in London.

awakeeveeynight · 30/04/2023 19:21

Northumberland every time. Magical.

Travis1 · 30/04/2023 19:25

Isle of Skye all the live long day 😍

TheEarlofButties · 30/04/2023 19:37

Anglesey!

Maraudingmarauders · 30/04/2023 20:51

I love Snowdonia - there is a never ending supply of walks and scenery...but the traffic would wear me down. Highlands of Scoand are something else...

EllaPaella · 30/04/2023 20:52

I absolutely love north Devon and Cornwall and never tire of it but also went to the west coast of Scotland for the first time last year and it was breathtaking so definitely going back.
Interesting to hear so many people love Anglesey - never been but thinking about going next summer. If anyone can recommend a good campsite that would be wonderful.

TravellingSpoon · 30/04/2023 21:44

Gower would be a close second for me.

We stayed here https://www.penybontfarm.co.uk/

We had a fabulous time and we paddleboarded nearly every day. We were super lucky with the weather which helped.

Thank you @TravellingSpoon
We had very nice weather last July/August, you can't do better than the UK when the weather is good IMO

Twoshoesnewshoes · 30/04/2023 22:04

Probably the Lake District
though I live on Dartmoor and every day feels like a holiday really

QueefofSheena · 30/04/2023 22:08

Same as you OP, and my beautiful goddaughter and her family are there so it’s extra special

beeswain · 30/04/2023 22:26

@Flossflower yes! We also had a lovely holiday just outside Braemar back in 2019. And near Ullapool in 2021.

The Gower in South Wales. Camping in Oxwich as a base

The Gower, can't believe nobody else has mentioned it yet. The walk down to Three Cliff Bay via the castle ruins and alongside the impressively meandering Pennard Pill stream is lovely. There are often wild ponies drinking from the stream, and the water is shallow if you don't quite manage the stepping stones. It's not the safest place to swim though, so I think I'd like to have one of those apartments just above the sand on Caswell Bay to go swimming every day. Or perhaps Oxwich bay for very safe swimming with small children, and tea and stickies at the Oxwich Bay hotel afterwards, a place that always makes me feel as if I'm a character in an Agatha Christie novel.

I've literally just commented this without reading the full thread. We went every year as a child and camped at Oxwich. Used to do the coast walk to Port Einon. Love Worms head. Love everything about the Gower

North Wales. I'm a Gog born and bred and have lived here all my life. If only you could see the places us locals know of, you would never leave.
