What is your meal plan for the week?

I'm trying to plan a shop for this week and I feel like I eat the same stuff all the time. A typical week for my family is big standard toast/cereal for breakfast, sandwich/salad/leftovers for lunch, and then planned dinners. It's a bugger trying to get my family to eat their 5 a day, so things like fish and chips, jacket potato, and pizza (delicious as they may be) are needing to be more infrequent. I would love to see other people's plans for a week to get some different ideas!

S: Chicken and lentil curry (tomato, spinach, red pepper) with rice
M: Potato leek soup (leeks, onions, celery) with crusty bread
T: Tacos (onions, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado)
W: Grilled chicken with cous cous (onion, broccoli, carrots)
T: Salmon with springtime risotto (celery, onion, green beans, spinach, peas)
F: Spaghetti and meatballs with side salad (onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, olives)
S: Stir fry (peppers, onions, mangetout, carrots, bean sprouts)

I must be totally disorganised because l don't have a meal plan. I can't think that far ahead and if l do l don't fancy what l planned. I shop most days after work.

Thai green curry
Jool’s pregnant pasta
Chicken, spinach and chickpea curry
Some kind of risotto, prob mushroom
Leftover curry on jacket potato
Jerk chicken and rice and peas
Pasta with cream and some kind of veg
Fishfingers in a bread bun

No more specific meals after this but we have eggs delivered so sometimes do something egg based. Always have noodles in which we have with veg and peanut butter. Or usually have sweet potatoes in the veg box so sometimes do macaroni cheese with these mashed into the sauce.

We've started doing shorter, more frequent meal plans, as I found doing a whole week at once meant that when life happened or there was a night we just couldn't be arsed, we ended up with out of date stuff, etc. So my biggest win has been getting a smaller grocery shop every 4-5 days instead of one large one every seven, and then it gives much more freedom with dates and going off piste for the odd night. It also allows latitude for special requests if someone fancies something (and has stopped us doing more expensive top-up shops at the local shop mid-week).

So for the next four nights, in no particular order, we have: salmon risotto, one-pot lasagne, sticky peanut strips with peanut salad, and garlic and herb chicken with parmesan potatoes. On the last night I'll do a grocery shop and get stuff for the next 4/5 days.

Most of our meals are from the What's for Dinner Tonight book by Sarah Rossi, which has whole meal plans in it with shopping lists too. I really recommend it.

Hawkins003 · 23/04/2023 11:53

Usually my ideas are made up each day, sometimes it's what's on the yellow label, or sometimes it's what's available that needs to be used up, or sometimes it's basics like rice, pasta, etc

Hawkins003 · 23/04/2023 11:54

I prefer a mixed variety when I'm eating rather than set meals

PopsicleHustler · 23/04/2023 12:00

Today, roast chicken, veg, roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings in a swimming pool of gravy.
Eid chocolate treats for pudding

Monday- Chicken tikka masala with lightly seasoned rice and garlic and coriander naan bread.

Tuesday- Spicy chicken, mushroom and Red onion fried rice

Wednesday - grilled chicken, salad coleslaw and potato wedges for me and my girls / Nigerian tomato beef stew for husband called Ata din din. I'm not keen on it but he loves it with plantain, boiled eggs and rice. The boys eat it too.

Thursday baby potatoes, spinach, chicken

Friday, egg fried rice, black bean chicken, spring rolls, satay skewers.

Saturday chicken seekh kebabs in pitta bread with cucumbers and tomatoes and shredded salad and mccain bbq chips.

Is it really obvious I love and only really eat chicken ?

PopsicleHustler · 23/04/2023 12:03

@ChicagoBears I feel like you're like me. Only really eats chicken and fish. I only eat chicken, cod and tuna

mbosnz · 23/04/2023 12:25
