After the death of Paul o Grady it occurred to me I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him before or after death- ditto George Michael
Other celebs I can think of are David Attenborough and Peter Kay
Are there any others?

Also Martin Compston

My DP knew him when he was younger and said he was a prat. Very much “do you know who I am” round his extremely working class home town. He may have matured a lot since then but definitely remembered for being a bit of a tit

Paul O Grady - my work mate was an extra - Mr O Grady stormed off a set because something wasnt to his liking - he found him quite rude

Lou Macari

I don't know if he is universally loved but I took some kids to see Steve Batshall in a show he did, they were all Deadly 60 fans. I was expecting to be bored but doing it for the kids but his show was fascinating and at the end he told the kids if anyone wanted photos or autographs he'd be coming out into the lobby. He did and he took time with each and every child. Probably the nicest celebrity I've met but then I haven't met many.

KitKatLove · 22/04/2023 13:14

Another Floella Benjamin fan here. I think I might burst into tears if I ever met her.

KateofGhent · 22/04/2023 13:15

These have already been mentioned, just wanted to second
Dolly Parton
Tom Hanks
Hugh Jackman
Also Les Dawson, who didn't look as if he ever had a bad day in his life, salt of the earth type.
Also like Jeff Goldblum, cheerful guy.

loislovesstewie · 22/04/2023 13:16

Just read that Barry Humphries has died. RIP.

AutumnCrow · 22/04/2023 13:18

My father absolutely adored Barry Humphries, especially his Les Patterson the cultural attaché persona. I very much hope his reputation survives his passing, iykwim.

KateofGhent · 22/04/2023 13:18

Joan Collins, a talented beauty with great dress sense, good fun too.

Typo there, I mean Steve Backshall.

Izzy24 · 22/04/2023 13:22

Dermot O’Leary!

(don’t think he’s been mentioned yet😊)

awakeandanxiouss · 22/04/2023 13:22

I’ve not met any Celtic fans that dislike McCoist. Possibly some very staunch fans that are the type not to wear blue etc but generally he’s liked by both sides of the old firm

Here's one: Gary Lineker. I'd say universally loved, apart from complete twats who take massive exception to the fact he might share opinions that differ from theirs.

I'd already pointed out that two women had reason to divorce him and he's been involved in a couple of tax avoidance scandals. Not found guilty of anything criminal afaik but definitely not paying his fair share. Oh, and he shat himself when playing for England once. 😁

I've had the misfortune to meet him in a previous line of work. He is not the person that he appears on TV. Very arrogant. He was one of the first footballers to get a super injunction to prevent his misdemeanors being made public.

When I lived in Scotland I worked for a charity with very strong green links, McCoist was a regular visitor and contributer very quietly.

He was also very supportive of Nil by mouth when lots of big names tried to steer away from any vocal opinion on sectarianism

CantBeArsedOrAsked · 22/04/2023 13:26

Bob Mortimer, so so funny in WILTY. And comes across as gentle and vulnerable in Gone Fishing.

LakieLady · 22/04/2023 13:40

Gingerkittykat · 21/04/2023 23:42

Queen Dolly Parton.
Miriam Margolyes.
Dawn French.
Billy Connelly.

I've heard that Dawn French can be unpleasant and rude.

daisychain01 · 22/04/2023 13:47

My personal good-guy, talented and devoted family man, who has written dozens of songs for famous singers like Tom Petty, The Travelling Wilburys, George Harrison and heads up ELO is Jeff Lynne. A thoroughly decent person and very humble about his amazing lifetime of achievements.

And his ELO collaborative partner, keyboard player and fellow 'Brummoy' Richard Tandy is pretty awesome as well.

Love Lee Mack. He would be my celebrity husband!

He lives fairly near me and knows some non-celebrities I know and he is always talked of fondly. His wife is delightful too.
