Threads you always click on even though you have no skin in the game

And let me start by apologising for using such a wanky phrase but it does work well for this particular thread ;)

For me, it's dog threads. I don't have a dog, no real strong feelings on them and definitely no plans to get one, but I find the threads fascinating (and lets face it there are a lot of them at the moment).

Other ones are inheritance ones - I'm not in line for any inheritance and not even sure what probate is but love these threads.

Anyone else do this for threads that have no real relevance to them?

I'm ashamed to say it, but I love an in law thread bonus points if they are providing free childcare but dare to not follow the "rules " the frothing really is too much 😀

Mrsjayy · 22/04/2023 14:01

I also like Style and beauty especially if it is about anti ageing I not the least bit interested in botox or fillers or retinols etc .

crackofdoom · 22/04/2023 14:09

Anything food/ weight related, but I did use to be overweight and am keeping it at bay by always being on some kind of diet, so perhaps I DO have skin in that game 😬

MiL threads. I do not have a MiL.

lljkk · 22/04/2023 14:25

I'm reluctant to say, because it's voyeurism to do this, isn't it?

Everything parking related, I suppose (I cycle almost everywhere).
Who gets what benefits: makes no difference to me.
Liz Fraser, Jack Monroe... Never even heard of them b4 MN threads.
"Shall I go to A&E" their decision makes no difference in my life.

Lot of other topics, I only click on to see what bonkers statements someone will come out with "today". Weight Loss, menopause, diet choices, safeguarding questions, dog safety, fairly likely someone will say some crazy thing.

FatsiaJaponicaVariegata · 22/04/2023 14:33

I read pretty much every thread in 'Trending'. In fact, that's the only way that I interact with the site.
So I'll end up reading parenting threads for instance, even though I don't have kids.

AdaColeman · 22/04/2023 14:51

Duke of Edinburgh hikes, I didn't do them as girls weren't included in my day, but they are interesting threads for showing how involved the mothers are, and all the detailed advice posters give. I often wonder how the teenagers got on!
Baby names for all the weird and wonderful names posters have come up with.

TheaBrandt · 22/04/2023 17:08

Duke of Edinburgh a sore point for me. One was keen to do it but didn’t get to due to covid and the second has flatly refused to do it at all.

usernother · 22/04/2023 17:14

Inheritance threads. Only because often I'm amazed at how much free money people get from their parents and their sense of entitlement to this money.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 22/04/2023 17:35

I always read the "has any one heard from Eton/St Paul's/ Winchester" school place threads and imagine a world where such things could be possible for my son 🤣🤣

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/04/2023 17:48

YY to the selective education threads.I live hundreds of miles from London, in an area with no selective schools, and don't have anything like the budget for private education. And yet I get really invested, and find myself desperately hoping that HeyDuggieFan86's kid will get to the top of the waiting list for Tiffin.

Willmafrockfit · 22/04/2023 17:50

baby names

Pennyslotmachine · 22/04/2023 17:55

Anything on private education. You just know it'll kick off. Oh and I love the ones where someone is trying to get their 2 year old to read Shakespeare or whatever. This is basically what I'm here for.

spanieleyes · 22/04/2023 18:07

Baby names. Not sure why, my children are both grown up and I doubt I will ever have grandchildren so I'm not looking for inspiration!
I think it's because I'm a teacher and I sit here silently shouting No, don't do it😭

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/04/2023 18:21

House selling. I'm not looking to move house myself but love looking at property online and am immensely nosey about Mumsnetter's houses. I never make derogatory comments though.

MidlifeWhatNow · 22/04/2023 18:23

The class threads. They're SO predictable and I love seeing how quickly we can get to the 'upper class people are sooooooo lovely and kind and wear dog-hair-covered scruffs allll the time'* *post. It's a winner, I give myself a little squeeze of delight when I see it 😁

Boarding and Posh Highly Sought After London Schools

Fascinating glimpse into another world

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/04/2023 18:26

Baby names too, DS is 13 and there are certainly no more on the cards!

TabithaTiger · 22/04/2023 18:27

I love reading the private school/ boarding school threads. No relevance to me at all, but I find them fascinating.

Also the giving up alcohol ones, I love how amazing and supportive posters are.

When I ventured into that I thought I was going to find some really stunning outfits but it's just people in jeans and jumpers most days. It's all very odd.

😂i know! I think what happened was, the original group were all v stylish but lots more people joined and the original folk are far too sweet and polite to tell the others to get off the threads 😬

Almahart · 22/04/2023 19:22

The tack room. Always lived in cities. No interest in ever owning a horse. Find them fascinating for some reason

Testino · 22/04/2023 19:58

Anything that brings the drama no matter the board. That's for my entertainment.

Then I also come to support and give information if I have any to offer.

PollyCreo · 22/04/2023 20:00

I secretly love the "hubby went to the pub today and hasn't come home yet" threads. I know it's wrong but it's my guilty pleasure on a Sunday morning 😔

Nellieinthebarn · 22/04/2023 20:10

I like the wedding dramas, and also the cat threads. I cannot remember the last time I went to a wedding, and no longer have a cat. I also like the 'is my DH being a wanker?' usually yes.

humblemeep · 22/04/2023 20:12

The ones where someone's in labour, just love seeing brand new babies! My youngest is 21, so it'll never be me again!

BEL88 · 22/04/2023 20:25

Pregnancy test ones! Even though I've had a year of miscarriages and not currently TTC (so you'd think I wouldn't want to see them!) I still love gauging if it's a line, how far along they are and when they eventually get that positive!
