I don't mean upper middle at least a few million. What's life like what staff do you have? What's your daily routine like? How do you earn your money investments etc. Being nosey.

Reading this thread, there’s no way the Middletons made so much money selling party hats is there?

no way

I’m so confused. All the people I know who are truly wealthy built a business, but then also invested well. Some say they made most of their money on their investments.

I am more surprised by the skepticism here. I haven’t seen much that I find implausible other than the ones going intentionally over the top.

Is there a way for an adult to become rich without working or inheriting?

Oh… now I get it.

No biscuit man, plenty of men in the world married into better circumstances than where they began and gained a wealthy or high earning wife.

ChiChaNaYubi · 22/04/2023 12:23

My in laws are millionaires but you would never know. They are the tightest people I’ve ever met, drive old shitty bangers and dress in old ratty clothes. Love them dearly but you’d never guess their estate was worth over 10mil!

No, indeed. I'm from a working / middle class background. And im happy with that. 😊

I honestly couldn’t see much wrong with your writing skills to no honest. I’ve seen far far worse. I think that poster is just a pretty sad individual to pick that up.

I have a cleaner and I'm definitely not super rich. I wanted to know about the ones with live in housekeepers and private chefs 😂

I had a private chef....for an evening as a birthday gift.... lol does that count- couldn't resist sorry!

Thank you. Yes I also thought it was a bit harsh!

Dated a billionaire for 8 years. He's on STRL.

Met some amazing people with him. He had 4 jets, a current yacht that would put Abramovich to shame. And he genuinely still bought some trinkets from Poundland as table decorations for his first (still enormous) yacht, and when we took one of the jets from Biggin Hill, he refused to get a muffin for £5, because "that's ridiculous for a muffin". We had an amazing time. He just wasn't for me, nor I for him, and we mutually called it a day.

Nothing wrong with your writing at all. Unhappy people are keen to spread the one thing they have in excess.

@Felixss

I have a school friend who is a house manager for an incredibly wealthy family who live in a massive house in (yes in) Regents Park.

She manages the staff, including a ‘wardrobe mistress’ who looks after all their clothes. Makes sure the expensive things are washed/dry cleaned correctly, everything is stored properly in the dressing rooms, swaps the summer/winter clothes etc, arranges alterations

I think if you are genuinely into fashion, it must be a really useful thing to have (and would be an amazing job if you love fashion also)

I would guess that her job would also include packing for holidays so they have suitably amazing things to wear.

I don’t give a crap about clothes so it’s not something I would ever use, but we do sometimes pay to get our holiday luggage sent in advance which makes travelling with kids a lot easier.

tubing · 22/04/2023 13:27

@AliceOlive I think it came from the uncle.

tubing · 22/04/2023 13:34

I do also know someone who was on the STRC & told me it was a load of crap

Same with my ex actually, he once commented that what they had him down as was far less than the reality, and that he, and everyone else on there, would not even be on there if they knew the real wealth of any of the Chinese living in the UK.

poppysockies · 22/04/2023 15:37

I don't need holidays as I don't have a life I want to escape from. I do go on short UK trips regularly.

What a weird comment. I see traveling as part of my life, not an escape from it. I love exploring new places just as much as I love being at home.

He would have given me the ick very quickly by the sounds

tubing · 22/04/2023 15:53

a why would someone need for pjs?

tubing · 22/04/2023 15:54

four!

He had one with his name initials as the reg, then his three kids as the others.

Don't think he's got them all now, the kids ones were just things he got on a whim, they were never used. Hired out a bit I think.

Felixss · 22/04/2023 16:17

Slightly disappointed no one has Downton Abbey style servants who wash and dress them haha.

That would not give me the ick. Someone who knows when they are being ripped off and is aware of the value of money. Like the footballer who the interwebs went wild saying his phone screen was smashed and he pointed out that the cost of a new iphone was more than what many in his country earned in a year so he was not getting a new one.

My BFF is married to a very wealthy man... but agan it is asset rich and cash not so rich. She gets a bit annoyed when tradesman quotes go up the second the see the house etc (actually their house is quite modest- and frightfully run down but is detached). For example a joiner who quoted £10k to straighten- that's right- mstraighten two shelves.

ivfbabymomma1 · 22/04/2023 17:03

My parents have a lot of money so I had a privileged upbringing. I'm an only child & adopted. I went to a private school and had access to my parents cards growing up. They bought me my first house outright. Me & my DH aren't rich, both work full time etc . We don't ask for money of course but it's very reassuring to know it's there if something was urgent

In terms of life styles my mum has always been a house wife since she was in her 20s.

Definitely not rich but I do have a maid who comes 5 days a week. She does my washing, ironing, cleaning, grocery shopping and cooks evening meals. It's great but I'm pretty useless now. I had to go to the supermarket this afternoon for flour, sugar and cinnamon (I'm baking an apple crumble) and had no idea where to find them. A 10 minute trip took nearly 45 mins. Kids also go to a private international school but tuition fees (about £50k/year are paid for by work). Also have a gardener.

All of this is nothing in comparison to some of the kids I teach. E.g Just after Christmas, I taught a history topic on the Titanic (comparing and contrasting with modern day). Looked a lot at the Symphony of the Seas ship. One child was so inspired by it, his mum booked a week cruise on it for this week. Kids also turn up for school in Lambos, Porsches and Ferraris.

Also, if you have Netflix, watch 'Hope Frozen'. That family are at my school. Their wealth is insane.

Nanny31 · 22/04/2023 18:40

Poor as a mouse but always trying! 😊

Dontwantutono · 22/04/2023 18:58

Name change. I married well. I met DH when I was 20 while at university, he was 29. Shortly married while I was 23. Been married for 6 years now. Had no idea what wealth he had but knew his parents were minted (tbf wasn’t interested in his wealth - just knew he was a great guy who loved me).

He has ~£5.5m in investments and we live in a house that was bought for £1.1m when we got married as a “gift” from his parents. DH & I also have excellent careers that pays well so we pretty much live off our salary.

Tbf my life isn’t that exciting. We eat out at least once a week but somewhere like Harvester or Giggling Squid. I drive a Jaguar F Pace and he has a Range Rover. We go on fab holidays often, always in business class and stay in wonderful places (think Four Seasons, St Regis, Capella - we have a holiday upcoming & plan to stay at Rosewood). Don’t have a cleaner as I quite enjoy cleaning our home, have gym membership at Virgin Active and nearly all of my friends are just normal people. I wear nice clothes but not designer clothes. I do shop at Waitrose but I love Lidl also.

We are trying for a family and plan to send them to private school for primary and state school for secondary as the schools here are outstanding.
