I like my privacy but cleaners don’t impact that. Well they make my privacy cleaner and tidier!

People who’ve never had cleaners seem to think it would be some kind of invasion it actually isn’t.

I take your point.
Ive never had a cleaner.
But my mum was one…theatres…offices…peoples houses etc
When I was on school hols I helped her, most days over Christmas for the panto quick clean and when she was in Ireland looking after relatives I did all the jobs for her ( once I was 16ish before & after school )
So suppose I have some experience of being in other peoples space, as the cleaner.
Its not the same i know.

But I struggled with the boiler man fitting a new boiler and radiators. 🤯

I have a relative who is a millionaire. They live really frugally, haven't bought clothes since the 90s I swear. Go everywhere on a free bus pass. Free museums in London. They don't even have a TV, listen to the radio and read newspapers (they are in their 90s but honestly have been this way for the 30odd years I've been aware of them).

They are really really scrimpy and won't spend a penny on their own comfort or anyone else's. They beg for car rides from relatives to go on holiday. They do spend a lot of money on cruising.

I think many rich people got that way from being utter scrooges and then never learned to spend it!

No, indeed. I'm from a working / middle class background. And im happy with that. 😊

Nothing wrong with not being able to write!

I have a STEM degree and a masters from top university and my masters is from a Ivy league I still cannot spell. Some people are better with numbers, some people are better musically. I hate it when people use 'writing' skills to up on someone else so what! Get a life!

it would be really good if a woman came on here having earned millions rather than her dp/dh.

Anyway, I went out with a super rich guy last year. It was a lot of fun!

I didn't earn millions but I had a successful career. A local government pension started when I was 20 and a good private pension. About £10k left to pay on the mortgage on my 4 bedroom house. Next career move would have taken me into the £100k pay range. But yes, it's my partner who is the multi millionaire, due to talent and luck in the music industry.

There are plenty of self made female millionaires though aren't there? They just don't happen to be posting on here. Maybe they are at work. 😂

Thank you @MissLucyLiu . If this was a thread about nappies or nurseries or sleep problems, I'm pretty sure people wouldn't be commenting on my writing. But because I I'm cash rich, suddenly I'm fair game 🤷‍♀️ seems a bit unfair. Not everyone who has money is a selfish unfeeling a*hole.

My Neighbour Totoro at The Barbican was amazing.. however it was only on stage until January, and isn’t running again until November so not sure how you saw it last week? (but do get tickets for when it’s next on if you can!)

I was about to say exactly that! It was amazing though. (My tickets were £85, so I'm not one of the super rich!)

My previous post states we earned ours together.
Not my dp / dh
It was My idea to set up my own business which I initially started on my own after dc1 born.
Dh joined after.

Agree with this with the caveat that you see a lot when you do cleaning. Your cleaner knows more about you than you realise but nothing you can do about that so just enjoy and cleanliness and order.

tillytoodles1 · 21/04/2023 18:54

I used to be on another forum and there was a mega rich woman who was always boasting about their huge London house and their yachts. She used to post asking about holidays in certain places and there budget was around £30k for two adults and two kids, but they could stretch it if the place was nice.

So what? I’m completely fine with whatever she knows about me.

Bunnycat101 · 21/04/2023 19:20

I am loosely connected to a proper multi millionaire on the rich list (not a relative or close enough to ever benefit sadly!). He is surprisingly normal in some ways- completely not in others. The material things that mark him out from other wealthy people are the yacht and having a full time driver but really it’s the power and influence and status that comes with that level of wealth that differentiates them from someone on say £5-10m.

Felixss · 21/04/2023 19:21

MissLucyLiu · 21/04/2023 17:33

I am that woman.

What an inspiration too many of these super rich have married well not earned it themselves.

yes, that's great. I am jealous I would have loved to have made serious money in my own name. 👏👏👏

Yeah my cleaner knows where we put the sex toys lol 😂 but look if you really didn’t want people know there is a thing called locked box, safe , and locked room etc.

The only other issue is I don’t have kids heading to my mid 30s and worried about going on maternity leave because there’s no other women in my company in my role. So having a discussion around this with my other half about potentially he can be more ‘stay at home’ dad. Which is also unfair as my partner he’s actually doing quite well in his career, albeit, economically I earn more in an arbitrary number.

Yeah that’s wealth. Wealth is different from being rich.

Has anyone seen the latest succession! Absolute masterpiece ! And what real generational wealth / stealth weather / invisible power looks like.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 21/04/2023 19:39

Isn't Kate Middleton supposed to be on here?

I am quite surprised by the ones who have made millions by being artists.

GeriKellmansUpdo · 21/04/2023 19:42

Ooh I also like the pp about inlaws buying a new pair of socks everyday. I would definitely do that if I were rich. I hate sorting socks.

IAmCinderella · 21/04/2023 19:45

BlackeyedSusan · 21/04/2023 17:02

there is a big difference between having an income of a million and having investments of a million that you draw interest off as an income (probably not that much ?) and owning a house in an expensive area (bought when cheaper) that's worth a lot but not having that much income, because you would still need somewhere to live.

Exactly. There seems to be a lot of conflating of income with wealth. You need investments in your pension of ~£1m to generate around £30k of annual income for retirement. Having that and a perfectly normal (by then) mortgage free house can easily mean £2m+ in assets, but is very far from being "super rich". Even two or three times that - while very comfortable and affluent - is not super rich. Super rich, to me, implies an annual income of seven figures and assets worth tens of millions, at least. I think many on the thread are talking at cross purposes.

KnifeFork · 21/04/2023 19:46

DH built a business that was sold a few years ago, his share worked out at about £5million. He now earns low six figures for a different company. We have a big house in fairly cheap area, plus a house we rent out and a flat in London as he travels there very regularly for work, all mortgage free. DH’s parents are, I think, very wealthy, certainly richer than us but DH is quite cagey about it. To look at, my friends would know we are very comfortable but they don’t know about the other houses we own and I certainly don’t think anyone would think we had X million. We are both v low maintenance, drive older cars, no gym, Kids are at state schools etc.

MissLucyLiu · 21/04/2023 19:47

There’s so many wespeople who are in creative industries.

Theres a saying :

The rich finance people want to talk about art, and the rich artists want to talk about finance.

At the top it’s the same.

MyopicBunny · 21/04/2023 19:48

Pretty sure Princesspeahead was rich but I don't know if she's on MN any more. And if she is it's probably under a different name.

Pl242 · 21/04/2023 20:11

Nope. Not super rich but know someone who is. Completely different world. Several multi million properties across the world. Travel by private jet everywhere. Multiple staff and nannies. Husband brings in the £ but she has family money. It’s fairly inconceivable but as they say it’s probably all relative!

Newnanit · 21/04/2023 20:16

Reading this thread, there’s no way the Middletons made so much money selling party hats is there?

Blueisthecolour1 · 21/04/2023 20:27

I’m not at all rich, I earn £31,000 per annum. But I work for people who are wealthy. They are all intelligent, kind individuals. Very down to earth, no fancy jewellery or clothes. You wouldn’t know. They don’t treat me any differently. They suffer from the same aches and pains all humans do - the struggles of life and the frailty of the human condition - money can’t solve the fundamental riddles.
