Thread 7 - TalkLair: “In fact it’s an oblate spheroid”

Kucinghitam · 20/04/2023 20:05

Continuation of previous threads (thread 6).
The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

It’s been a while since we’ve had any cat photos. Here is Kasper on learning he has won the award for British Shorthair of the Year

Really nice to see you all here! Although I don't miss JTT, I do miss the people!

MavisMcMinty · 26/05/2023 12:00

Spiders are our allies, @angelico53 . Please don’t hoover them up.

Britinme · 26/05/2023 12:36

@lucicle I see you on FB sometimes and pictures of an alarmingly grown-up T, who I remember from the preg threads. Jenny28 as was here.

MavisMcMinty · 26/05/2023 12:38

Love that picture, @CyanCrystalViolet !

I concur - even though some of the larger hairier ones definitely give me the ewwww. I actually hoover around them. Last night I was mopping the kitchen floor and trying to mop around a small panicking spider by the kickboard... but it then frantically ran out into a wet soapy bit of floor and died. Very sad.

I've not gone back to posting in the Old Place since the Great Exodus, although I have occasionally had a read. There are some of us straddling both worlds though (very gamely too).

I’m still there, read much more than I post though. Also had to put good ol’ “hatters” on ignore the other day, he’s such an under-bridge-dweller.

angelico53 · 26/05/2023 12:56

I did exactly the same, Mavis.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 26/05/2023 13:05

Shed spiders greatly reduce the chance of shed wasp nests.

I knew it was you, Jenny!

artant · 26/05/2023 16:26

@lucicle - how lovely to see you here! I refuse to believe T is doing GCSEs even though I’ve seen her growing up on Insta and she’s clearly a self-assured young woman and not still a toddler shouting about hats.

lucicle · 26/05/2023 17:30

Lovely to see you too! Yes, it's really true, T is practically grown up (but as she has less than the standard amount of common sense it is often easy to forget this)!

Still quite keen on hats, though!

MouseMinge · 26/05/2023 19:24

I love Kasper!

duc748 · 26/05/2023 19:27

He's a star!

angelico53 · 26/05/2023 20:10

Thanks for that link, @SinnerBoy ! Ok, they get a reprieve.

But the minute I see a single poisoned hobbit hanging in the shed, wrapped in a shroud of sticky web, they're toast.

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/05/2023 13:18

@MavisMcMinty I see you’ve been enjoying that Eastenders cardiac arrest syndrome codependency thread too Grin

MavisMcMinty · 28/05/2023 13:58

Ha ha, yes! My best friend has a relationship like that with her Mum - when Ma retired to Portugal, BF had to go out there for every single day of her annual leave entitlement. When Ma moved back to the UK (and voted for Brexit FFS!), she presented BF with details of a big house they were going to buy together, so BF could look after Ma and stepdad until they died, then inherit their half of the house as payment. Literally decided that’s what they’d do, no consultation at all! (BF did manage to say NO to that, but it was touch and go for a while.) BF works full-time but still has to spend both her days off every week running around after her Mum. I used to envy them, as me and my Mum always had a much more difficult and prickly relationship.

CyanCrystalViolet · 28/05/2023 14:22

My mum was never much of a mum to me so I’ve always found it quite difficult when people talk about their close mother/daughter relationships. There was one post about mum and adult daughter snuggling up together on the sofa that made me feel physically sick! One of my friends is close to her mum and when she talks about how lovely and caring and supportive she is I have to do a mental lalalalalalalaaaa fingers in ears thing.

MavisMcMinty · 28/05/2023 14:27

Oh yes, Cheryl Cole and her Mum, apparently. No wonder that marriage didn’t survive!

MouseMinge · 28/05/2023 17:39

It's shocking when you have to sleep in a bedroom like this with such an awful walled garden. Even worse, part of the house dates back to 1500 and my room is in the newer 1575 part of the house. The indignity of it! No, I didn't sleep in the cot it's a slightly huge room with two beds.

Gonners · 28/05/2023 20:51

Ooh - can someone direct me to that thread, pretty please?

bignosebignose · 30/05/2023 10:58

Just caught up with the thread, glad to see The Passage trilogy being enjoyed. I might have to reread them too.

duc748 · 30/05/2023 12:34

@bignosebignose ,

Did you watch Pleasantville?
