Would this scare you or intimidate you?

Yes, it would and it does.
Especially the barrage of "give us a smile love" or "stuck up bitch" when you don't look overjoyed to be the recipient of their attention.

It's also often done to underage girls

StarDolphins · 18/04/2023 23:59

Wolf whistling doesn’t bother me at all. Which I’m surprised about because I have clear boundaries with men as to how I will be treated.

TheChosenTwo · 19/04/2023 00:02

It makes me feel quite rageful and like people were looking at me (which I just hate) but now walk everywhere with headphones on so I don’t notice anymore.

Member869894 · 19/04/2023 00:04

I'd honestly be bloody delighted!

merrymelodies · 19/04/2023 00:08

Nah. Idiots. Just ignore.

Bobbi730 · 19/04/2023 00:15

It used to happen to me loads when I was young and I hated it. I was delighted to be older and 'invisible'.
I used to dread walking past workmen or building sites in particular but it used to happen walking down the street firm men in vans etc. It would be almost impossible to police but I thought it was less common generally now ( or maybe it's just me).

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 19/04/2023 00:33

Yes it would (not that it happens now - used to a lot when I was a teen and I absolutely hated it)

PickleOfAConundrum · 19/04/2023 00:47

I find when I'm whistled at I'm flattered I'm attractive enough to get a wolf whistle. I'd be more offended if a guy was to call out I'm a pug ugly or the likes! It makes me smile getting a whistle especially if he's hot 🤣.

EssexMamisoa · 19/04/2023 01:35

Doesn’t bother me at all (day time).

Night time obviously different kettle of fish

Kanaloa · 19/04/2023 02:03

Yes. Wolf whistling isn’t about complimenting, it’s about intimidating and objectifying. So if someone is trying to intimidate me in the street I react appropriately to that and feel intimidated.

It’s not because you’re attractive. The type of man who does this will do it to young teens, attractive women, unattractive women. It’s more about the rush from making a woman uncomfortable in public. Much like you don’t get flashed because you’re attractive! You get flashed because someone is a flasher.

PottyMouthkaka · 19/04/2023 02:15

I hate it
In day light I would feel very uncomfortable and wary
In the dark, x10

sashh · 19/04/2023 02:51

It made (well past it now) me feel intimidated.

And the last time it happened and I didn't respond the next thing was a bottle (thankfully plastic) hitting my head.

GobbieMaggie · 19/04/2023 02:59

No, not that easily intimidated.

Yes I felt flattered when I was whistled and leered at when 11 or 12 years old and walking around with my friends in my school uniform, but fortunately I now understand a lot more about men and society.

CheekyHobson · 19/04/2023 03:09

Not unless it was night and up close, but in general I don’t think people’s fuckability should be a matter of public commentary, so I’d be annoyed.

strawberryseed · 19/04/2023 03:32

Even if it's in the day, if you had to go back a short while later would you not feel uncomfortable? I would. It wouldn't always necessarily feel afraid but it's much nicer not to deal with. Luckily I'm moving in to middle age invisibility these days

Sleepydoor · 19/04/2023 03:39

It depends on the context.

As an older woman who can no longer even remember what it was like being catcalled, sure. When I was walking alone aged 11? No.

I thought the world had moved on too but then I saw a very impactful video done by a young woman in NYC and realized men hadn’t changed; I had.

LoveSong · 19/04/2023 04:02

It can be intimidating. It’s always makes me feel uncomfortable.

My daughter finds it very intimidating.

It’s harassment and men those that do are misogynistic pervs.

LoveSong · 19/04/2023 04:03

Last sentence was meant to say:

Beezknees · 19/04/2023 05:55

I don't find it intimidating or scary, but I find it annoying. I would judge a bloke who did it as a creep and a twat.

I don't care about male validation when it comes to my looks.

You do realise that these men whistle at attractive women and the not so attractive ones to take the piss. (I’m not saying you’re not attractive but it says fuck all about attractiveness.

It’s just all jokes and banter and what they do when they’re with the boys. They’re very funny don’t you know? 🙄
