Just drive a different way home, past a car wash and remembered how I refuse to use it on principle 😂
Years ago, I was in a hurry and no one in front - as I drove in, and was being 'washed' by one of the chaps, the one in charge allowed someone to jump the queue as they were 'in a hurry' and 'just wanted a spritz' - nope, they reversed all the way back, had everything, and I sat fuming at the the queue jumpy enablement.
Refuse to go back, I'm sure they are disappointed 😂

Devon County Show, 1973 (I think, although I'm a little hazy on the exact date...) My riding school were doing a demonstration as part of the show in the main ring. I was there for the first two days of the show, but on the third I had tonsillitis and couldn't go. Everyone else got a rosette for attending, and, although my friend asked for one for me, I didn't get one and it would have been my first ever rosette for anything.

I am still bitter. And cross with my riding school for not getting a rosette for me (I'd been part of the display for the other two nights) and with my mother for not letting me out of my sick bed to attend. Fifty years I've been cross about that...

When I was mid 20s I was at a work meeting hours from my home and feeling a bit off due to very painful PMT and suddenly collapsed in front of a bunch of people. I came round but was moaning in pain and faint, and mortified. They brought me to a nearby GP and half carried me in. A very curt (female) GP said it was probably endometriosis and I'd probably have fertility problems, while giving me an injection for pain. I was left to rest for a while. This was devastating news for me but I must have been still out if it as I remember being told I had spilled a bottle of water on myself but didn't notice. When I was able to stand and went to pay (Rep of Irl - no NHS for us!) I was told they didn't take cards and I was directed to a nearby ATM. I remember literally holding onto the wall for that agonising walk there and back to settle my bill. I can't believe i was foolish enough to return. No one offered to call anyone for me, I was alone unable to get home on the side of the road. To this day I cannot believe they left me like this.

The local coffeeshop. On a Sunday at around half two we walked in for a hot chocolate. The teenagers running the didnt even wait for us to get to the counter before shouting 'by the way we close at 3'.

We ordered a drink and sat down. A steady stream of people came in after us as the other local cafe was closed unexpectedly. They told every person they were closing soon, and at 2.45 refused to serve people!!

Then at 2.50 stood at the door holding it open waiting for us all to leave

I drank that hot chocolate slower than I have ever drunk anything in my life. I strolled out of the door at 2.59pm and will never go back!

I would have done the same.

In fact I would have licked the cup out and taken my time about it. They were just rude, standing at the door. (Normal practice is to wipe the tables down, put chairs on tables, and start sweeping round people Grin)

I still bear a grudge against an in-store cafe near my local hospital. I used to pop in for coffee & cake to get my act together before driving home, after attending the hospital for a radiotherapy session. Then one day I walked in & they told me they were closed. There were customers at tables & there was still 10-15 mins to go, plenty of time for a coffee. I pointed to the clock & said it wasn't closing time yet - & they lied & said it was! Well, screw you (store name), I've never been in one of your cafes since then.

In the cafe in our local hospital @ifIwerenotanandroid , they quite literally run out from behind the counter and take away chairs as it approaches closing time . . .

It's pretty thrilling to watch "They're distracted faffing with the till - will they notice that big guy in the biker leathers has inhaled his cake and coffee or will this woman with a walker get to the seat first while her husband sprints for the queue with his Marathon bar, and order a coffee . . ." )

Went for an interview at BHS when I was 19 (year 2000) for a very specific role I was interested in. Waited and waited for days to hear back but they never even bothered to call me. I boycotted ever shopping in there again as did my mum. I decided instead to go to university and on my summer breaks back home, would walk past the shop trying to look smug about my newly chosen path and unbothered by their terrible treatment of me 😆

I was most upset at my mum when she shopped in there 5 years later 😂and the joy I felt when they closed down was quite something considering I was then heading towards 40 with a good job, married with 2 children.

When I was 16 I had my first summer job in Woolworths. The store was in my city- a huge tourist destination so lots of casual staff were taken on over the summer. Some of the permanent staff were nasty to the summer workers.
I was working the small fruit and veg section, at lunch times a permanent staff member took over my station and till.
On the third week I was called to the manager's office who told me the till was £50 short and I must be the culprit. I was fired on the spot.
I was so upset, I hadn't taken any money, I cried all the way home on the bus.
It felt so unfair, I was devastated at being branded a thief.
I held grudge against the store manager and whoever took the money fpr a long time.

Houses post has reminded me of something that happened ages ago, in the 1970s. I was veggie, which was pretty unusual back then, and I decided to treat myself to a meal in BHS, I was very hungry. It was self service, and I filled my tray. Plate of chips, beans & Brussels sprouts, large fizzy drink and a dessert of some kind. When I got to the till the silly old moo in charge refused to serve me because "this isn't a chip shop"! Now, does that make ANY sense? I explained that I was vegetarian and that I'd picked up almost everything there that I could eat, but she wouldn't have it. Still seething 50 odd years later 😡

Beeinalily · 29/05/2023 10:08

Not as bad as @speakout though, that's appalling.

That is shocking!
