Anyone else get annoyed at lift users that take them to the 1st floor......

Firstly let me just say I absolutely do not want or mean to offend anyone that medically needs to take the lift to any floor.
But today...
I work on the 6th floor and today so many people on separate occaisions came in from the smokers area and got in the lift with me and took it to the 1st or 2nd floor?... between floors there are about 10 maybe 15 stairs and the door to the staircase is right next to the lifts. For some reason it got me so annoyed. I kept having to stop at floors 1, 2 and 3... likely i would be faster walking up all the stairs. Bit of a pointless post, but anyone else feel the same or just me 😂

So your issue is with smokers who
may or may not have medical reasons for wanting to use the lift?

theswoot · 17/04/2023 16:22

I couldn’t get annoyed about this. People can use whatever accommodations they want that are available. We have no idea what other people’s needs might be. That level of impatience must be quite tiring!

TrombonesAreNotBones · 17/04/2023 16:23

Future you would thank you for using the stairs, no Bungalow Legs for you in old age [thumbs up]

JuneShitfield · 17/04/2023 16:27

At the office building I used to work in, the lifts were right inside the door but using the stairs meant going through three sets of doors, each of which needed to be opened using a swipe security pass. Very awkward, especially when holding something else (extra bag, gym bag, coffee etc).

So I just used the lift, it was quicker.

jannier · 17/04/2023 16:28

If it's stressing you this much use the stairs.

Reugny · 17/04/2023 16:29

That's why I would be one of the weirdos who would often take the lift to floors 4-8.

SirChenjins · 17/04/2023 16:30

Yes it annoys me - esp when there are people waiting with pushchairs or with very young children who can’t get on first or second time round before because fit and healthy adults who won’t walk up a few stairs are taking the lift space.

WrinklesShminkles · 17/04/2023 16:34

YANBU - drives me nuts too.

"Firstly let me just say I absolutely do not want or mean to offend anyone that medically needs to take the lift to any floor."

Big fail then.

Perhaps you could ask for reasonable adjustment and have your own private lift installed?

And you can tell they are fit and healthy just by looking at them? I look outwardly fit and healthy, but I'm not. Anyway, if there's a queue, there's a queue. You wait your turn.

DanceMonster · 17/04/2023 16:39

I couldn’t care less who uses a lift.

HellonHeels · 17/04/2023 16:40

I cannot find it in me to care about who uses a lift and which floor they go to.

megletthesecond · 17/04/2023 16:40

Just walk to the 6th floor.
I work on floor 4 and all my colleagues get the lift except me.

Quveas · 17/04/2023 16:41

If you work on the 6th floor, how often are you in the lift anyway??? Perhaps spending more time at your desk instead of riding the lift would solve your problem?

I knew someone would jump in with this. If they’ve managed to go round a very large shopping centre and have shopping bags (from shops which have stairs) to prove it then they are able climb a few more stairs.

Work lifts - wouldn’t bother me.

Fleebeee · 17/04/2023 16:48

But the majority of people are incredibly lazy. What else would you expect?

I use the lift at my work because I've busted my knee. You would have no idea watching me walk as its only an issue on the stairs or steep hills.

hotdiggetydog · 17/04/2023 16:53

How important are you that you need the extra 20 seconds it takes back?

LookItsMeAgain · 17/04/2023 16:55

I don't have any medical diagnosis but over the past 18 months I've started to hate getting on escalators and being in very wide open spaces including shopping centres where the developers over the past 10 years have put glass in everywhere so when you're on the first floor you can see down to the ground floor. Open spaces freak me the hell out.

If I need to go to the first floor and the option is an escalator that has glass sides by myself or a lift, I'll take the lift.

You can just lump it for all I care @Naimee87 . I really don't care that it boils your piss that you can't stand it. Why don't you walk to the second floor and get the lift from there to wherever you need to?

Not only do you not believe that not all disabilities are visible, but you also don't understand the concept of escalators?

MakeItAll · 17/04/2023 16:57

I agree with you OP. And I hate it even more when they use the lift to go down the one floor. Happens all the time in hotels which I may have a little more sympathy about if people don’t know where the stairs are (although it wouldn’t take long to work it out).

LolaSmiles · 17/04/2023 16:59

Even if the didn't have a disability, who are you OP to decide who can and can't use the lift / who is or isn't deserving enough?

The lift stops at a few floors and adds, what, 60 seconds onto your journey time. I doubt your work day is that busy that a few stops is a problem for you.
