Anyone else get annoyed at lift users that take them to the 1st floor......

Firstly let me just say I absolutely do not want or mean to offend anyone that medically needs to take the lift to any floor.
But today...
I work on the 6th floor and today so many people on separate occaisions came in from the smokers area and got in the lift with me and took it to the 1st or 2nd floor?... between floors there are about 10 maybe 15 stairs and the door to the staircase is right next to the lifts. For some reason it got me so annoyed. I kept having to stop at floors 1, 2 and 3... likely i would be faster walking up all the stairs. Bit of a pointless post, but anyone else feel the same or just me 😂

I knew someone would jump in with this. If they’ve managed to go round a very large shopping centre and have shopping bags (from shops which have stairs) to prove it then they are able climb a few more stairs.

So because I am able to go shopping and carry some bags I must have the physical strength required to push my body weight upstairs using my legs?! Any shopping centre I go to has either an escalator or elevator to access upstairs shops or floors 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheMarsian · 17/04/2023 17:48

And it has an impact on you because … you are so much in a rush that you can’t wait the 20 seconds the lift stops at those levels?

If that’s the case, I think you need to learn patience instead

rookiemere · 17/04/2023 17:50

Well I sometimes treat myself to the lift to the first floor, because I've already done a 35 minute walk from where I can park the car for free. It gives me a chance to cool down and hopefully be less sweaty by the time I reach our office.
I am a bit embarrassed about it and try and catch an empty lift.

TheMarsian · 17/04/2023 17:51

You know this thread is just laughable.

So many people saying they can’t stand people using the lift for a floor or two.
In RL? Have ever seen a queue of people using the stairs? Nope.

I doubt that all the saintly people on this thread actually always take the stairs. They take the lift like anyone else, for the many reasons why someone takes the lift. Incl can’t be bothered with the stairs, being tired today etc….

randomsabreuse · 17/04/2023 17:52

I hate lifts but having had incidents with being stuck in a stairwell due to forgetting my pass when I went to walk down the one flight of stairs in an office context with passes I'm going for the lift - stairwells ended in emergency only fire doors, all other exits were pass locked.

Some hotels just finding the stairs is interesting too - I usually follow the reception directions (involving the lift) the first time then explore!

And there was me thinking that a queue is a queue. You don't take priority over everyone else just because you are pushing a buggy with a kid in it.

What a shame you don’t have any courtesy or consideration for others.

You're supposed to stand still on escalators, because the step height is deeper than on regular stairs and is a trip hazard if people walk up

A trip hazard - I've seen it all now. What about the escalators that have standing on one side, walking on the other. There are lots like this in the airport. There are even signs telling you to walk on the left side, stand on the right. . Most healthy, fit people can manage to walk up an escalator without tripping, if you can't, well...I can't help you there.

OP it annoys me too. Majority of humans are just lazy gits.

I use the lift at my work because I've busted my knee. You would have no idea watching me walk as its only an issue on the stairs or steep hills.

Same here, bad knee, hurts on stairs, including at home so where there is a lift I use it. There is only one floor in our building so I go up one floor and come down one floor in the lift

PinkPink1 · 17/04/2023 17:59

I used to run up the stairs. However, I’m now in my third trimester and have pelvic pain.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 17/04/2023 17:59

It is so strange to get in a lift and then be annoyed by the fact it stops at different floors. It’s there for everyone’s benefit and hardly takes a long time.

dougandpenny · 17/04/2023 18:00

Since when did smokers not have disabilities? That's a new one on me.

MeganTheeScallion · 17/04/2023 18:05

It'll be a cold day in hell before i WALK on an escalator.

Skybluepinky · 17/04/2023 18:06

Of course not, I’m not that petty.

ZoeQ90 · 17/04/2023 18:13

Cool. Always good to know there are judgemental people out there. I'm 30+ weeks pregnant but don't look it. Walking on the flat I can just about manage but stairs completely wind me.

dougandpenny · 17/04/2023 18:15

I'm disabled. On a good day I don't look it. But I am still disabled.

How do you know the people using the lifts don't have a disability or other condition (eg a short term condition that isn't enough to qualify as a disability, or a MH condition) that stops them using the stairs?

Flounder2022 · 17/04/2023 18:16

I look pretty fit and healthy. I'm not. The biggest obstacle for me is stairs and if I walked up 2 flights of stairs I could potentially crash and be physically limited for hours or even more.

Newuswr · 17/04/2023 18:18

You should get in touch with the OP of the other current lift thread, seems like you’d be great friends 😂

MeganTheeScallion · 17/04/2023 18:19

Standing still for a few seconds a day is a lovely little treat sometimes.

Insidelaurashead · 17/04/2023 18:20

I have fibromyalgia. Someone once complained in the lift at work that Id got in to go down one floor. I went back to my desk and cried I was so embarrassed.

Didnt stop the pain flare I was having though. But nasty person got to be nasty so thats ok

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 17/04/2023 18:22

I’m with you, OP. I used to work in an office building in which gangs of young, fit-looking blokes would pile into the lift and take it down from the first floor or back up again.
The lifts were slow and packed and it got right on my tits.

dudsville · 17/04/2023 18:22

When i find myself getting irritated by things like this, things people do that are legal and available to them, i take a moment to realise that something is making me feel irritated in my own life that needs my attention.

Flounder2022 · 17/04/2023 18:25

SirChenjins · 17/04/2023 16:43

I knew someone would jump in with this. If they’ve managed to go round a very large shopping centre and have shopping bags (from shops which have stairs) to prove it then they are able climb a few more stairs.

I have a certain amount of energy/physical energy I can use in a day. Some days that’s more than others and and I don’t always know when the crash will hit. I use the lift every time there’s one available to conserve my energy/ability. Sometimes that also means I’ll take a bus one or two stops. I’m sure people look at me and think I’m lazy but it’s the only way to ensure I can maintain some standard or normality in my life.

CombatBarbie · 17/04/2023 18:25

When I worked and pregnant (6-9 months) with SPD I had great delight in making the lift go down to -2 before coming back up to G to go 1-9..... I still had 4 flights of stairs after that but the huffing and puffing from those I KNEW worked on floors 1-2 amused me no end. They would have been quicker taking the stairs.
