What business is it of his even if he does have Irish ancestors. He should keep his nose out. it's really beginning to annoy me now. And he's not even there yet.

Our primary industry is turf. It's local fuel sold locally.
You're trying to kid a culchie here!

i think it's fine he's going to Ireland.
but wish he had accepted to come to the coronation too.

Why do you wish he accepted to come to the Coronation too. Sorry not being rude or disrespectful just honestly curious. Thanks

This cartoon in today’s Times summed up my feelings.
American politicians are always keen to make a point of any Irish ancestors - never mind any others, especially if they were Baddie Brits!

All heads of state/leaders can't attend the Coronation just in case something bad happens.

Idiotic post.

Tighginn · 13/04/2023 18:41

Don't think it will stay in history the way Bill's visit did, love that episode in Derry Girls!

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2023 18:42

@Florissante why do you think that? Do you not think that cartoon is disgusting? And if not, why not?

Mojoj · 13/04/2023 18:57

Ha ha ha, gotta love the Americans. They all claim some Irish heritage🤣🤣🤣🤣

IsThePopeCatholic · 13/04/2023 18:57

So-called Irish Americans are in love with a nostalgic Ireland. It’s hilarious and sad at the same time. Many have never visited Ireland. They may be in for a shock if they do as it has changed so much in the last 25 years _ for the better of course, but they probably wouldn’t think so.

No they don't. What a moronic comment.

Wow @Florissante your contribution to the thread is really outstanding.

Florissante · 13/04/2023 19:09

Thank you. Yours are brilliant, too.

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2023 19:10

Yeah I know

borntobequiet · 13/04/2023 19:13

So-called Irish Americans

What would you suggest calling Americans of Irish ancestry? Do you mean they’re all pretending to have such ancestry?

How rude and intolerant you are.

I personally wouldn't call them 'Irish-Americans' because to me that means they have dual citizenship. They're Americans. No need for the hyphenation.

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2023 19:16

I'm sure they'll adhere to what you think @Florissante

Florissante · 13/04/2023 19:16

Calling someone "rude and intolerant" because you disagree with them is actually...rude and intolerant.

Even if he actually was in cognitive decline (he clearly isn't), he's still 1000 times more intelligent and articulate than his predecessor. I thought he came across very well in his speeches thus far. Especially given his age and the demands of his position.

You thought his long meandering, contentless speech in N Ireland was good? He's President of the USA - a man they present as the leader of the free world. And we give him a low bar because he's 80? How about they just elect someone competent out of the 360m people who live there.

CreationNat1on · 13/04/2023 19:28

The city cousins get sniffy when the country cousins get a nod of approval from the head of the committee.

borntobequiet · 13/04/2023 21:03

Neither did I, what are you on about? The hyphen was in “so-called”.

I love the way Americans claim their ancestry, African Americans, Polish Americans, Irish Americans. I can't see a negative with it.

Evanna13 · 13/04/2023 23:05

Biden is in Ireland to commerate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement, which brought peace to Northern Ireland. It was very hard won and is a very fragile peace. Bill Clinton the US president at the time was heavily involved in the negotiation talks and the US sees itself as a guardian of this agreement .I think Biden does feel that the English government are not doing enough to protect that peace.

That's absolutely not true. Any speech in NI is like tinder paper so has to be ultra sensitive. He walked it well.
