I'm wearing a rara skirt and colour changing t shirt. Hope my armpits don't get too warm!

Leather jacket, boob tube, high shine satin disco pants - basically Olivia Newton John. Better start the diet now......

Northernsouloldies · 11/04/2023 16:36

A tonic suit, couldn't afford one in teens.

MyLavenderSuperpowers · 11/04/2023 16:36

A doted the preppy look circa 1980s, Diana meets American Higj school with lots of pastels, crop trousers and cardies 😂

A tonic suit from Top Shop. Some lucky girls had them in the 70s. I think it was called stayprest in Glasgow?

Funnily enough one of our porters who is roughly same age as me got a tonic suit for his son's wedding recently!

If anyone does not know the material I mean

Tonic suits A favourite of the mods of the early 1960s, tonic fabric is a blend of superfine wool and mohair. Known as sharkskin in the USA, tonic suits look right at home in clubs from Vegas to Soho. Jump the Gun tonic suits come in a variety of fabric blends, mainly superfine wool

had a kind of two tone (or more) to it.

Deathraystare · 11/04/2023 16:49

Apparently it is known as sharkskin in USA!

Spandex trousers and a boob tube - channelling Olivia Newton John in Grease- back in tge day I was skinny enough and flat chested enough for the boob tube- of course I agonised about my lack of curves. Then spent the rest of my life worrying about my curves

RainbowConnection1 · 11/04/2023 17:23

I'm going posh because I was desparate to wear this to my school dance circa 1989.

A dress from Dorothy Perkins which had a green taffeta skirt, black velvet bodice and green taffeta wrap bit round the shoulders. I shall be stunning!!

Deathraystare · 11/04/2023 17:34

@Northernsouloldies

Sorry! Just seen your post! So that's two miserable people who wanted a tonic suit!!!!!

MarkWithaC · 11/04/2023 17:37

Probably a Benetton sweatshirt, one of the logo ones with all the letters in different colours.
And a baseball jacket.
Can't remember what jeans or skirts etc I used to long for.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 11/04/2023 17:42

Red rara skirt, electric blue tights (to match my mascara), grey suede pixie boots and a Wham t-shirt. Poodle perm with a long sweeping fridge and winged sides. I think I look like the dogs nads.

summerfinn · 11/04/2023 17:43

Any of cher from clueless the movies outfits, I wanted them all. I wanted to be her. Still do 😂🙈

Can2022getanyworse · 11/04/2023 17:44

Matching top and bottoms from a leisure suit company whose mane escapes me - they were a posh (for us) high Street leisure brand selling cotton fancy tracksuits - began with a J maybe?

Oh, and Jelly shoes. Never had a pair. Felt so hard done by as a kid as EVERYONE had them apart from me.

With crimped hair amd blue mascara.

iklboo · 11/04/2023 17:49

Full on two-tone ska outfit with the pork pie hat & brogues.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 11/04/2023 17:58

A pair of purple wallaby's,wide leg jeans and a reversible psychedelic hooded top.
Spiral perm and big hooped earrings, rimmel sweet sizzle lipstick and multicoloured scrunchies.
To fess up this is exactly the outfit I had when I was 17,though I was the dogs bollocks 😀

Rebelmcstreettuff · 11/04/2023 18:02

@Theimpossiblegirl loved a ra ra skirt too, just remembered my first Christmas night out wore a crushed black velvet dress with a blue satin ra ra skirt and matching sleeves, wonder how much I'd get for that now on vented lol

Piemam · 11/04/2023 18:11

That would be so cool, @fuzzbearpenguin ! Like @zapeze mine too would be a Monsoon single colour silk corset with Miss 60 blue jeans and kitten heels. Or a hot pink corset top.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 11/04/2023 18:17

At 15/16, very low rise Miss Sixty jeans with an off the shoulder top and an Afghan coat.

At 21, basically anything from the Kate Moss for Topshop collection. Particularly the red dress. I actually had the tea dress and donated a few years back, which I really, really regret.

You Can Still Buy These Iconic Kate Moss For Topshop Pieces Second-Hand

Kate Moss's Topshop collections may have been released years ago now but you can still shop them on eBay. Here's how. Read more on Grazia.

I wanted a leather jacket and jeans like Starsky and Hutch..and I was a little girl. Good job it wasn't in the times of trans shite

Niftythrifter · 11/04/2023 18:21

Vivienne Westwood dress etc so I look like the VW Cindy doll.

IaltagDhubh · 11/04/2023 18:32

About age 7 - red patent Mary Janes. My feet were too narrow so ones in Clarks never fit. I always had to have non-patent black ones with the ugly t-bar.

Age 14 - baggy combat trousers, super low on my hips, probably green originally, but dyed black. T-shirt cut off to make it cropped, tie dyed with black and probably further customised with fabric paint and glitter, possibly a a dragon design. East German army shirt or jacket, probably not over dyed with black for once because I was so desperate for one of these and wouldn’t want to ruin it. Black DMs with bright pink laces. Dreadlocks with lots of beads. Too much black eyeliner. Basically I would look like a cross between All Saints, Swampy, and Winona Ryder in Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael.

Age 18 - a gorgeous beige and black tapestry corset top from Monsoon, only this time it would actually fit me and I wouldn’t have to worry about being so flat chested that everyone could look straight down it. Long dark red swishy maxi skirt. Flat brown leather sandals, with turquoise nail polish. Lots of silver amber jewellery. Bright red hennaed hair that has somehow magically become naturally curly. I’m too porky to wear this outfit now, but I still check eBay and Vinted for that corset top every now and then.

I definitely wore this. There is photographic evidence but it is buried in a box in the attic.

I loved it, I looked ridiculous, but God I loved this outfit.

Derrymum123 · 11/04/2023 18:55

Skin tight blue jeans, pixie boots (green) black leather biker jacket, bright t shirt with 3/4 sleeves.

JoeLovesGina · 11/04/2023 19:07

A genuine Fred Perry shirt, drainpipe jeans, monkey boots and a black Harrington.
