I'm wearing a rara skirt and colour changing t shirt. Hope my armpits don't get too warm!

Oh I longed for a naff naff jumpsuit. When I was about 14.

I think it was naff naff. Had forgotten that.

Tessisme · 11/04/2023 11:20

Oh God, Bay City Roller parallels. My friend turned up at my front door one day circa 1975 dressed head to toe in full Bay City Roller regalia - white with red tartan - and I was so jealous. My mum said 'absolutely no way' (she wasn't wrong ...🤣🤣) so I never owned so much as a scarf. But it was the hideous trousers I coveted more than anything.

dimpleton · 11/04/2023 11:21

Matching denim jacket and rolled up jeans, a tartan scarf, with white "bumper boots" (converse) a la Bay city rollers.

Satin trousers and a fringed suede waistcoat ( 70's)!

Eatentoomanyroses · 11/04/2023 11:24

I had a pink iridescent sequin boob tube I bought. I really wanted to wear it but I was too fat.

VioletCharlotte · 11/04/2023 11:24

When I was at school, I desperately wanted this black, crushed velvet lycra mini dress from Miss Selfridge. It was extremely short and low cut, so my Mum vetoed it as inappropriate for a 15 year old to wear to a school disco!

Phos · 11/04/2023 11:24

I remember coveting those parachute pants with the long ribbons hanging off them. Finally bought myself a pair on a school trip to London at Covent Garden market and thought I was the bees knees.

Louloubelles · 11/04/2023 11:29

A pair of knee high socks with a picture of the Smurfs on the side. At infant school my friend had them and I really wanted them but wasn’t allowed. Probably teamed with an inappropriate kitten heeled shoe.

JimnJoyce · 11/04/2023 11:51

A Charlies Angels jumpsuit

SunhatsAndFlipFlops · 11/04/2023 13:15

@Saltired Yep! The pedal pushers give it away I think.

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 11/04/2023 13:21

Definitely some sparkly deely boppers! At one stage I felt like the only person left under 15 in the UK without them!

inthekitchensink · 11/04/2023 14:07

Ooh fun - at 12 definitely a Tammy girl crop top ‘bra’ (please mum), with a miss selfridge black chiffon shirt over a black body and Levi’s, dewberry body spray & some Heather shimmer lippy, and I might use some Sun In to give my hair some lovely crunchy orange bits

At 14 - cherry red DM boots, over the knee black socks, short tie dye skirt from Camden market, long sleeved nirvana tee shirt, far too much eyeliner and fuzzy peach body shop body spray. Definitely lots of berry coloured rimmel lipstick

At 16 - so much body glitter I feel sticky all over, a lilac strappy shiny mini dress monstrosity from top shop and some platform heels please. And a big squirt of Dune. I’m going to wear my hair loose to cover all the holes I pierced myself in my ears so mum doesn’t see them.

At 18 - a dark brown floral boob tube, low slung bootcut jeans, pointy witchy boots I can’t walk in, and a dodgy belly piercing that won’t heal. And a very tatty chain link belt to highlight my long lost flat tummy (sob) If it’s cold I will don my parka (like that girl in All Saints) or maybe my new long denim belted trench coat. Finally a generous coating of juicy tube lip gloss and a good spray of Kenzo .

Cant decide which would be worse to go out in now I’m decades older!

Worldgonecrazy · 11/04/2023 14:11

Denim mini skirt in purple with matching purple sweatshirt. The coolest girls in school all bought different colours, so one in all purple, one in green etc. I was so jealous.

Mid teens I coveted anything vaguely New Romantic inspired, so anything early Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, or Flock of Seagulls was gone by me.

SUPsUP · 11/04/2023 14:16

Awesome thread. Converse and hot pants and some kind of bralet because I’m going to a super cool house club
—I never went to super cool clubs or had the figure to pull off a bralet—

FoolsOld · 11/04/2023 14:17

Kickers. But proper ones from a shop not the knock off ex catalogue ones my mum got from the market that were a size too small but i insisted on wearing because I wanted to be cool.

Ethelswith · 11/04/2023 14:21

Picking from different bits of my youth...

  • a Tutankhamen exhibition t-shirt
  • tight shiny black trousers (Grease)
  • cowboy boots

all accessorised by a Space Hopper

😂

I was allowed socks like that on my skinny match stick like legs. They would always fall down.

Reugny · 11/04/2023 14:40

Oh I wanted parachute pants aka MC Hammer but my legs were too skinny.

Another girl with very skinny legs wore them on non-unjform day at school. The wind kept blowing the wrong way and she got loads of comments about her legs being too skinny for them.....

crouchingpheasant · 11/04/2023 14:56

Global Hypercolour t-shirt and shell suit

MissCherryCakeyBun · 11/04/2023 15:14

Looking just like Stevie Nicks.... flowing hippy skirt, cotton shirt over a little camisole lots of scars and beads some nice natural suede boots and a proper boho leather bag....glasses and a floppy hat. Given I'm 54 and about 5 stone overweight I'm not sure I would be brave enough to leave the house let alone walk into a gig 😂

MissCherryCakeyBun · 11/04/2023 15:14

Blush scarfs not scars

BugLight · 11/04/2023 15:22

<holds sides laughing>

i joked on another thread about never getting over feeling like my wardrobe is just a big dressing up box

can’t even count how many things named on this thread that are still in my attic

<stops laughing & briefly hopes hoarding tendency never gets beyond the attic>

something i coveted as a child but sadly never have owned yet proper 60’s/70’s faded denim flares, high-waisted, with pockets

prob a bit too porky currently to match my expectation (farrah fawcett) with reality (muriel as abba)

hasn’t stopped me looking day-dreaming though Grin

FlappyFish · 11/04/2023 15:35

This. I’d even love the little makeover. Miss Selfridge had T-shirts like it and I was too booby to wear them.

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/04/2023 15:52

My cousin's turquoise dungarees with big, white spots and her blue towelling windcheater with the hood. I would like the windcheater to fit me, as it was too small for me when it was handed down, but I know how to get into and out of dungarees now so I won't wet myself the first time I wear them like I did last time around.

barbrahunter · 11/04/2023 16:24

I absolutely longed for these when I was a teenager, but I could never afford them...
