Ryanair 'small personal bag'

cocksstrideintheevening · 10/04/2023 17:43

Flying with Ryanair for my sins, can anyone share an example of what they have used as the small personal bag please? Only going for two nights so happy can for what I need but don't want to get fleeced at the airport.

I've been looking at the tik tok ones on Amazon.

Thanks

Oh and can I buy anything airside or does that need to fit in the under seat bag too?

I bought this bag:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B5ZTLQJW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Its a very good size for a 2 day trip and has lots of compartments, including a laptop pocket, but the fabric isn't the studiest....

On Ryanair, everything needs to fit in the bag. You might get away with a bottle of water.

It needs to fit under the seat in front of you without obstructing anyone else- so if you have an isle seat, middle & window seat people shouldn't trip over it should they wish to get up.
I used my 30l hiking backpack recently- no problems at all. But if you want to play it safe, use one of the backpacks that secondary school kids have.

Cabin max do bags suitable for Ryanair

countrygirl99 · 10/04/2023 17:52

I use a small backpack from Decathlon.

RosemaryAndTime · 10/04/2023 18:02

Be very careful, some of these replies seem to be talking about the larger cabin bag for priority passengers rather than the small free bag everyone can take that fits under the seat in front. I travelled with Ryanair recently and was shocked at how small the allowance is compared to other airlines. There were many people on my flight who had exceeded the size but lucky for them bags were not being checked.

The bag linked to above exceeds the size as it is 40 x 26 x 20

Get out a tape measure and check any bags you have 40 x 25 x 20 is very small, you might get away with it if they don't check but if they do it will be costly.

You’d have to be a packing ninja to get away with it, they really mean a handbag. They are ruthless about only letting people who paid for priority boarding bring on larger bags, and on the plane they were allocating the overhead locker bins to specific seats who had paid for extra hand bags.

I wouldn’t be confident bringing much more than my Fjall Raven rucksack.

Ryanair put it up to the big boys over 30 years ago, it really pisses me off the bashing they get.

Simonjt · 10/04/2023 18:09

We use the Narwey bag thats the exact ryanair measurements, we are yet to actually have it measured, we also find only UK airports seem to have the measuring stands, we are yet to see one in an airport abroad. When we fly home from Arlanda airport, they don’t even check who has bought priority boarding, so we usually come home with our Narweys and a tote bag or whatever as well.

We recently flew RA. We bought bags from Amazon. If you search Ryan air, small bag you should find them. It was £12 and it was surprising how much would fit.

On the way out nobody checked but on the return journey several passengers were very angry as the bags they had no problems with on the outward journey were not accepted on the way back.

I varied between sympathy for them and smugness 🥴. No excuses for the aggression shown.

I too have Ryanair-specific bags.
Just to be clear, that's it - you can't even take a separate handbag. It's doable for a weekend on the beach but if you want to take more than the one pair of shoes you're wearing, you might need to consider paying extra for normal "hand luggage"

annonymousse · 10/04/2023 18:29

@gkd1234 that's a good point about absolutely no other bag. We went away for 4 days but had access to a washing machine so weee able to travel very light.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/04/2023 18:30

Oh and I shove a Uniqlo bag into it for daybag use.

fuzzbearpenguin · 10/04/2023 18:31

Loads on Amazon.

I bought this one, as have a few of my friends as we went on a weekend break and every inch of luggage space mattered! This literally is the perfect size for the Ryanair small personal bag.

I have got this for DH going on a 3 night stag trip to Spain next month

CUQOO 2023 Ryanair Cabin Bags... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BX6X383M?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

He's only taking one pair of trainers which he'll wear and a pair of slides for daytime plus shorts and T-shirts. Will buy travel size toiletries

fuzzbearpenguin · 10/04/2023 18:33

My other tip is don't take stuff like shampoo/ shower gel. It's for a few days, just buy the cheapest one you can find once you get there from the local shop. Share with friends. Saves space and liquids!

Housenoob · 10/04/2023 18:34

Just search ryanair bag or 40x25x20 bag on amazon. I bought one for around 20 quid, it actually fit in a lot and it had zips/buckles so you can extend or flatten the bag. Was enough for 3 days in Edinburgh in the winter (so I fit in bulky winter stuff), if you're going somewhere hot for a few days it will be absolutely fine.

LeafHunter · 10/04/2023 18:35

I’ve used an eastpak bag. It’s definitely big enough for a 4/5 day trip although I’ve not taken a laptop. Eastpak Stand + Duffle, 25 cm, 34 L, Ultra Marine (Blue) https://amzn.eu/d/35SmV0X
we fly Ryan air for weekend breaks a lot and always use hand luggage. I’ve seen a number of people have to pay extra or decant their bags so it’s important to get it right!

Sudeko · 10/04/2023 18:46

I investigated this recently. You need to search for the one you are allowed to take on for free. Not the bag you are allowed to take on if you pay more "non priority cabin bag". If you are looking for a wheeled bag then most of them are sold out or horrendously overpriced. The main thing is that they are really tiny so if you are going away for more than a weekend or never change your clothes or are planning to live in washable swimwear which you will rotate then it would be really frustrating. That's why I decided to pay for the larger cabin bag.

Sudeko · 10/04/2023 18:48

One more thing. There are a number of holdall/backpacks available which are a bit cheaper but personally, I wouldn't want to wear a weeks worth of things on my back.

clary · 10/04/2023 18:52

I flew with Ryanair twice last year and took a tiny Adidas backpack. It needs to be about the size of a shoebox @cocksstrideintheevening , tho ngl, no one was checking. Maybe if flights had been full they would have.

One trip was to Denmark and I wore hoody and trousers, took underwear and T shirts and bag of tiny samples of skincare. Bought a gorgeous mug while there and had to wear my waterproof from my bag on the plane to fit mug into my backpack!

Other trip was to Italy HOT so I packed one spare sleeveless dress and wore an unneeded cardi to travel. Both trips for three days/two nights. Both trips just one pair of trainers worn all the time, tho in Italy I wished I had shoved in some cheap flip flops as it was so so hot.

clary · 10/04/2023 18:56

Yes as others say, that’s your only bag. My backpack was great for out and about in the day actually.

Another tip depending on time of year is that you can wear a coat - so can put things (book, phone, purse) in the pockets. Also wear anything bulky obvs.

Sudeko · 10/04/2023 18:56

That's what I mean. it's only doable if you cut corners like in a tiktok challenge. that is not my idea of a holiday.

I find the under seat bags fine for up to 3 nights as long as you don't need a change of shoes so for city breaks where you can travel in sandals or trainers it's fine.

OP this is the one I have Smile
