Anyone planning things for The Coronation weekend?

Typically I’m working on the day of The Coronation - sure we will be dead so might try to swap my shift to the Friday then I wouldn’t be back in work until the Tuesday. We don’t get on with our neighbours sadly so there won’t be a street party but I definitely want to mark the occasion somehow. May do a cream tea at DM & DF’s.

Not sure if London places anounced yet but .gov , Telegraph , Time Out will prob say where there may be big screens to watch ( across the UK not just London. )

Personally I cannot abide crowds , so I will not go , but will watch on the TV with a bucks fizz and possibly a bacon sandwich.

It's an historic occasion but I can understand people who just can't be bothered with it.

Marks and Spencer's had moved the eggs to make way for coronation biscuits and chocolate crowns yesterday.

Mammyloveswine · 09/04/2023 22:20

Aww I'm a teacher so we'll be having a party at school, then away for the long weekend as it's also my birthday so will no doubt join on with stuff at the caravan site we are staying in!

I think it's something to enjoy! A bit of history!

Doing something that doesn't involve fawning over a bunch of hypocritical scroungers.

😂

Me too!

NoTouch · 09/04/2023 23:16

It reminded me of how well we do all this stuff

Yes, we do tone deaf so well.

I had respect for the queen, the monarchy was relevant when she ascended the throne, it isn't now.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 09/04/2023 23:24

I have just ordered an Abolish the Monarchy t-shirt so am hoping for good weather 😁 There will never be a better time to wear it, although a Citizen not Subject one is maybe better for everyday wear.

ClassicLib · 09/04/2023 23:29

I have no specific plans, but I probably will watch the coronation on TV. I normally ignore royal events, and I certainly ignored the Jubilee last year, but this may be the only opportunity I get to watch the crowning of a monarch, so I will.

We're going from 5th to 7th. See you there lol. I also applied for tickets for the coronation concert, not realising at the time it wasn't on the roof of Buck Pal. If we're successfully allocated tickets that will really put a spanner in the works.....

I'll look out for you!

I applied for the concert tickets too but haven't heard anything. Someone on here said they'd received tickets a week or so ago, so I suspect we've both missed the boat!

ajandjjmum · 10/04/2023 09:33

Obviously we're all entitled to our own opinion, and the majority of people on this thread seem quite vocal in their desire to miss/ignore/avoid the whole event - which is fine.

What I don't get is their need to try and belittle those of us who want to see this small part of history. Whatever happened to 'Be Kind'?

Haven't seen any posts along the lines of 'Not my bag, but hope those who attend or watch have fun!'

BitOutOfPractice · 10/04/2023 09:38

Erm @ajandjjmum have fun. Not sure why you need anyone to say that, let alone someone who is determinedly doing the opposite but hey ho, have fun.

have you wished a lovely day to anyone avoiding the coronation? Thought not!

Frith2013 · 10/04/2023 09:42

Of course not.

ajandjjmum · 10/04/2023 10:05

Fair enough @BitOutOfPractice - I hope that everyone has a good day/weekend, whatever they choose to do - take part or avoid!

I don't need anyone to say or do anything - just don't like the dismissive comments which imply those who are not anti-monarchy are dim serfs.

TreesandFish · 09/04/2023 20:17

Going to Spain on holidays!

See you there! 😂

BitOutOfPractice · 10/04/2023 15:52

@ajandjjmum maybe I didn’t like to be portrayed as superior and sneering?

each to their own I say. I couldn’t care less what anyone else is doing. I merely answered the question about what I’m doing. But if the serf cap fits, you go ahead and wear it! 😉

LlynTegid · 10/04/2023 15:59

Have been planning for work. Not otherwise. The procession route seems too short for a chance of getting a good view unless turning up a very long time before.

diflasu · 10/04/2023 16:07

No plans - and nothing on locally I'm aware of.

Might watch some TV depends on coverage- might also keep an eye out for any food related to it - might do a BBQ.

I'm not wildly excited by it all but it's a bit of history I may not see again ( though likely will be around for next one) and haven't any other plans yet.

GettingThereCharleyBear · 10/04/2023 16:13

@ajandjjmum what an odd post 😳🤷‍♀️😄

I will be avoiding it like the plague and couldn’t care less whether those who watch it have fun or not. The very existence of the royals offends me so why should I hope it’s all a jolly jape 🙄.

Luckily we still live in a democracy . . .

Hoping to get a ticket for Spurs v Palace. With under 4 weeks to go I’ll be disgusted if they postpone it now.

I think the Sky and BT schedules have been set for that weekend so hopefully nothing will change for you.
We’re Man Utd season ticket holders, me and my son, and we had two games postponed around the funeral and it’s really not helped the fixture pile up we’ve had. We even had a home game postponed the day before the funeral due to Greater Manchester Police being needed in London, that was so infuriating.
We were thinking that our away game at West Ham on the coronation weekend might be postponed but it’s now scheduled for 7pm on the Sunday night.

To answer the initial question, I’ll be avoiding it just as I’ve avoided every royal event since Charles married Diana.

WhisperingAutistic · 10/04/2023 16:21

Our village is going all out!
On the day of the Coronation the village hall is showing it on a large screen, complete with free refreshments and cake for everyone. The Sunday is a big party. Fancy dress competition for the kids, fairground rides, stalls, face painting, donkey rides and a free buffet for the children.
We also are having a big picnic at church, with a bouncy castle and fun and games for the children.

aibutohavethisusername · 10/04/2023 16:23

Feeling annoyed I’ve got to work 9-7. I work in retail and I’m sure it’ll be dreadfully quiet.

Username917778 · 09/04/2023 19:28

God no

Same here. Waiting for confirmation of a job so could manage to avoid it completely with a bit of luck.

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 10/04/2023 16:30

On the funeral we went to the beach for the day, swim in the sea, BBQ sausages, time with friends to avoid the whole shindig. As long as it is dry we will probably do the same.

Skybluepinky · 10/04/2023 16:36

Visiting relatives, but nothing Coronation based.

'Dim serfs' just about sums it up.
