Anyone planning things for The Coronation weekend?

Typically I’m working on the day of The Coronation - sure we will be dead so might try to swap my shift to the Friday then I wouldn’t be back in work until the Tuesday. We don’t get on with our neighbours sadly so there won’t be a street party but I definitely want to mark the occasion somehow. May do a cream tea at DM & DF’s.

I'm just wondering if it would be worth going to London with two small (7&5) children? We've moved recently and can get a train quite easily to London. Just not sure what they would get to see or experience? I'm not standing at the front of the barrier for 12 hours with them, but would it be worth soaking up the atmosphere in Hyde park or something? With several thousand others I'd imagine. Would be interested to know if anyone's done similar or has an idea of how it would work.

So have we! Arrive on the 4th and leave on the 7th, so lots of time to soak up the atmosphere. By chance, DS has booked his flight home from Sydney to arrive on the 5th, so he'll join us in London before we all home on the 7th.

DH went to the Lying in State and found it very moving. I just feel that this will be my last chance to be in London for a major Royal event, and I want to make the most of the opportunity.

We're going from 5th to 7th. See you there lol. I also applied for tickets for the coronation concert, not realising at the time it wasn't on the roof of Buck Pal. If we're successfully allocated tickets that will really put a spanner in the works.....

Doing something that doesn't involve fawning over a bunch of hypocritical scroungers.

Veryfishy · 09/04/2023 20:14

Planning on watching it on bbc ( with a coronation T shirt on , loads of nice snacks and bunting outside ) 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

TreesandFish · 09/04/2023 20:17

Going to Spain on holidays!

ChickenMacaroni · 09/04/2023 20:20

I'm making an afternoon tea for the family - about 12 of us in total. I am not a very good hostess as I tend to get overwhelmed cooking hot food, especially roast dinners etc, so I'm very happy to essentially make a nice buffet! Hopefully weather will be nice enough to sit outside. I like celebrating significant events like this, even though I am not particularly a royalist.

CoffeeWithCheese · 09/04/2023 20:25

If our old street (we just moved) is doing something we might pop back to say hello - can't see the crowd round here doing anything and we'd never get the road closed for a street party as it's a main route in and out of the town centre.

Other than that - probably have it on the telly just so the kids can watch it - but ignore it really.

When I see all these people with Union Jack stuff on and waving flags I am genuinely baffled 😵‍💫.
All lined up, squashed up and waving their wee flags.
Just to be clear you’re talking about the Charles who cheated on his first wife for their whole marriage. , yeah such a good example of a man to celebrate.
But then I’m a rampant Scot who has absolutely no interest in the hypocritical monarchy at all.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 09/04/2023 20:29

The actual Coronation is Sat May 6th & I believe the Friday & Monday are both Bank Holidays.

Sorry not the Friday

Loads planned! I thought I'd start the day with brik for breakfast, then head down to the souk for some shopping. Might take in the Roman amphitheatre in the afternoon. I can't quite decide whether to stay for the sunset or have an early dinner. Any opinions on that?

JANetChick · 09/04/2023 20:34

All those little people behind the barriers waving their little flags! Imagine getting caught doing that by the tv cameras…cringe!!

Seriously, I might watch a bit of it on tv - depends on the weather.

MyMachineAndMe · 09/04/2023 20:38

The weekend? No, I don't think so. I might go out with my camera and take some photos of local events and decorations but I don't think there'll be that much. On the Monday I'm going out on a pub crawl from mid morning onwards whereas dh and the children are doing some volunteering for a charity he supports.

MMAMPWGHAP · 09/04/2023 20:46

Hoping to get a ticket for Spurs v Palace. With under 4 weeks to go I’ll be disgusted if they postpone it now.

Roundandnour · 09/04/2023 20:51

Ignoring the whole thing.
Eben more so because of the cost of the paintings. The privileged family could pay this themselves instead of paid by tax payers who are already struggling with the COL

BebbanburgIsMine · 09/04/2023 21:05

My daughter and me are planning to get buffet style food, so sandwiches, sausage rolls, cheese, pickled onions, and all that kind of stuff, eat it from our paper Coronation plates, and watch it all on tv.

There's just me and DD here, and our cat, and we're looking forward to it.

Binfluencer · 09/04/2023 21:11

I like the idea of doing anything I can to undermine the sickening privilege and inequality the royals exemplify that day.

Any ideas? Where are the protests planned?

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 09/04/2023 21:13

Going off grid to avoid anything to do with the Coronation.

FangsForTheMemory · 09/04/2023 21:15

Hibernation.

emmathedilemma · 09/04/2023 21:16

To be as far away from anything to do with the coronation as possible (see small scottish island)

VenAqui · 09/04/2023 21:18

I’m planning to do anything I can to avoid it.

Choccyeggs20 · 09/04/2023 21:18

I’m not celebrating, there’s no one in the monarchy left that I like. I think it’s time they go.

BitOutOfPractice · 09/04/2023 21:18

I’m going to see Micky Flanagan. Really excited. Won’t be watching the coronation, in fact I’ll be avoiding it.

User639762456 · 09/04/2023 21:20

Depends on the weather

PortiasBiscuit · 09/04/2023 21:20

Street party, we live in a cul de sac and generally have a couple of events a year, any excuse for a piss-up and still have bunting from the jubilee.
