If you work/run a hotel/Airbnb, do you ever skip changing the sheets/duvet cover cos' they look clean and you can't be arsed? Be honest! 😀

Stayed in a hotel at the weekend and this thought crossed my mind.
I think I would do this if they looked clean and it was only one night.

God no! 🤢🤢🤢🤮

I worked as a chambermaid in a 4* well known chain hotel years ago - I can confirm that every bed was changed however, the cups from the tea tray were washed in the dirty bathroom sink and dried with a dirty towel. Eventually someone raised it and management provided everyone with a tea towel however, they were still washed in the bathroom sink 🤢

I’m so relieved to read the replies here!

Ditto!

Yeah never trust your hotel mugs 🤮
I worked as a housekeeper for a while as a teen and only once did we not change the bedding. I think the new occupant could tell and complained to reception and it was chalked up to a mistake as we'd never done it before or since.

The throws and scatter cushions weren't washed every time though and doubt they are now.

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 09/04/2023 22:21

Stayed in a holiday home long before AirBnB. The sheets on my bed were actually stuck together with food. We ended up coming home.

Hairymaery · 09/04/2023 22:39

I worked at a Hilton as a chambermaid in my late teens and so did this! They didn't pay overtime but you were expected to clean so many rooms so any corners that could be cut were cut. I could tell you a thing or two from there..

WillHe · 09/04/2023 22:46

DD & her friends, who do change overs were talking about this the other night. Always change the pillow cases, often the sheet, flip the duvet and smooth is their get through the shift quickly if it's a short stay. The weekly change I ers get the whole lot done.
And I now always take my own cup for tea!

Pringleface · 09/04/2023 23:09

Two self catering houses. Absolutely not. Everything is changed and cleaned.

AllTheChaos · 10/04/2023 00:54

Oh Sweet Jesus! At the start of this thread I was pretty reassured, but these later comments have made me grateful I can’t afford holidays ATM!

I occasionally rent out the spare room on airbnb.
I always change the sheet and pillow cases, usually the duvet cover, but I admit that I don't always change the mattress protector.

I take it you declare in this in your property description?

Caspianberg · 10/04/2023 06:36

Have holiday let. All bedding, towels, kitchen stuff like tea towels, blanket eat sofa etc are washed every single time.
I also empty all crockery and cutlery into dishwasher between guests.

Knullrufs · 10/04/2023 06:47

I worked in hotel housekeeping as a student. Always always always changed the bedding between guests. Skipping doing it wasn’t even an option. It’s the first thing you get trained on — how to strip and remake a bed fast.

The hotels all have that ‘we care about the environment’ card in the rooms but that’s to encourage guests who are staying more than one night not to have their towels changed daily.

I’m quite smug about my bed making skills even now. I can strip and recover an emperor-size bed in under three minutes.

CleremyJarkeson · 10/04/2023 06:56

I'd hope not. I'm in a hotel currently as a pit stop with the family before our holiday. I had a shower and picked up the towel, saw it had a couple of brown marks on so I got my DD(3) to get me another, which also had brown marks on. Hotel is lovely but I started to wonder about its laundry routine, until I realised DD was eating chocolate iced gems and had put little chocolatey finger prints on the towels whilst chatting to me in the shower Grin

Pseudonamed · 10/04/2023 07:16

I know of a family who own an airbnb and one of them is in charge of cleaning it. I know for a fact that she gives a look at the sheets if someone has only stayed one night and will just remake the bed instead of changing it.

Oneborneverydecade · 10/04/2023 07:34

I'm a housekeeper and we always completely strip the bedding, whether a guest has stayed one night or several. A slept on sheet would be obviously creased imo.
We wash cushions when they get marked or appear generally grubby. Same with throws.
We occasionally used stained bedding - the stain goes on the underside. Glasses and cups are washed centrally in hot soapy water.
I've been there 2 years and none of the duvets have been washed boak.
We are a small independent and don't have to rush.

Shintyhappypeople · 10/04/2023 07:41

I'm a housekeeper and that isn't something we do.
I am impressed by the 3 minute bed change!

DragonflyLady · 10/04/2023 08:24

Helped my mum out at her B&B for years and always changed the bedding.

shivawn · 10/04/2023 08:28

My mum rents out room on Airbnb and no definitely not.

DoThePropeller · 10/04/2023 08:38

Air BnB-er here and always clean professionally laundered bedding. I think high standards of cleanliness are really important, unfortunately it comes with a fairly chunky cleaning fee though.

Agree it costs a lot but the linen is beautiful and I'm sure my guests appreciate it. I cannot imagine taking short cuts anywhere, my pride wouldn't allow it. Of course someone would be able to tell if you didn't change the sheet 😕

greenlychee · 12/04/2023 11:08

I stayed in an Airbnb once and this may have happened to me!!

Young woman clearly letting out her flat for a weekend while she went away. When I turned up she was still trying to get the sheets dry and I had to return later.

When we got into bed at night they just had that slight aroma of someone else's perfume!! Not to mention not having that crisp, clean sheet feeling - they felt softer than they should have, And I also found a cocktail muddler stick thing mixed up in the sheets somehow under the bed clothes!?

She was clearly not very organised. I put it in the comments at the end of the stay that airbnb saw. To be honest I had a very young child at the time so it wasn't really top of my priority to kick off and complain, I was struggling with PND and just having a bed to sleep in was enough for me although I did find it concerning.

SweetSummerSweetPea · 12/04/2023 11:34

Well premier Inn only seem to change a sheet and not the mattress protector under neath!

Our sheet happened to come off one time #!and exposed under neath was hairy matress protector clearly not clean.

We asked if they had a fesh one and they said no.

I was horrified.

Exactly, it's pretty obvious if the sheets haven't been changed and I wouldn't want to court any issues with guests, you get enough with stuff out of your control, genuine human error and people making stuff up without inviting it by not doing one of the most basic things. Couldn't understand anyone that would tbh, but I guess they are out there!
