If you work/run a hotel/Airbnb, do you ever skip changing the sheets/duvet cover cos' they look clean and you can't be arsed? Be honest! 😀

Stayed in a hotel at the weekend and this thought crossed my mind.
I think I would do this if they looked clean and it was only one night.

Booked into a very nice hotel in Bournemouth and found a wallet under the pillow! Hmmmm the hotel said that it must have slipped down the end of the mattress ( and then made its own way back to under the pillow) I think not!

purplepencilcase · 09/04/2023 20:34

Oh god no, please don't ask this!!

Lovelyring · 09/04/2023 20:37

I occasionally rent out the spare room on airbnb.
I always change the sheet and pillow cases, usually the duvet cover, but I admit that I don't always change the mattress protector.

Noooo!!

Yes, and tried to convince me that the sand was blown in to the room...

bustoterminal · 09/04/2023 20:45

Ok, so what about the bed throw you often find at the bottom of a bed or decorative cushion covers?

Do they get washed?

Doidontimmm · 09/04/2023 20:46

Ok I will admit that when doing Airbnb I once had my regular guest stay one night, then had to go home and return a few nights later and I never changed the duvet cover in between, just the sheet & pillowcases, I figured that was ok!

You don't always change the duvet cover? That is gross. The duvet cover is in contact with your skin.

Mattress protector should be changed too.

Was there someone else staying in the room in the interim? If not, that's fine.

Doidontimmm · 09/04/2023 20:54

Nope no one else, he had fresh towels, sheet & pillowcases, just thought it a bit silly to change duvet after one use. Gave the room a clean too.

Ladysaurus · 09/04/2023 20:55

I once demanded a bedding set be changed as there was what looked like an ejaculate stain. I got given a new room.

I worked in hotels over 10 years, I’m sad to say it is common practice from different reasons:sometimes because of lack of time, lack of clean bedding if the delivery hasn’t arrived etc , shortage of staff

They do but on rotation , same as shower curtains, once a month it’s a general rule unless badly/visible stains

Prertytiled · 09/04/2023 21:01

I run an Airbnb and I can categorically say that I put my heart and soul into making it as lovely for every single guest that stays with me. I get all 5* reviews on Airbnb and 10 rating on booking .com. I strip everything for every guest, all towels, bath mats everything straight into a dedicated wash then either out on the line in the sun to dry or into the tumble drier. All the bed linen goes to a professional laundry company where it's washed and beautifully ironed. It's a source of huge pride to me I have to say.

cpphelp · 09/04/2023 21:02

I can't help but think they do... the mugs/glasses/spoons aren't always clean which take so much less time to switch over.
Stay in hotels often, but in last year for a wedding in Glasgow... was actually asked by housekeeping to rinse out mugs and keep them two days running.

Bed throws and cushions also constantly washed!

transformandriseup · 09/04/2023 21:04

No not where I have worked in the past.

When we were abroad last I did notice the sheet on DDs bed were heavily stained even through it was clean and smelled clean. I know housekeeping is an expensive overhead but I did wonder why they didn't just throw it away. The next day it was changed.

Thaone · 09/04/2023 21:16

No way. I have worked in hotels, cleaned holiday homes and would never ever do that.

If I feel like crap and cba, then I don’t hoover under the bedside tables. Changing bedsheets is non negotiable.

I speak from my experience from a well know chain hotel in UK not a b&b , I was a head housekeeper for many years and then a cluster manager ( looking after 30 hotels housekeeping departments) When you have up to 180 rooms to clean in one shift with 7-8 maids, I’m telling you is impossible to change every bed and every cushion cover

NettleTea · 09/04/2023 21:25

we run a glamping site and a holiday cottage and would never do that. The only sheet that may stay on the bed would be a trundle thats kept under a bed, that hasnt been made up or used, and it has a sheet on it because it makes it look tidier than an unmade mattress. But if its going to be used we would then put a clean sheet on it when we pull it out to make it up.

I was running a course in a hotel in Blackpool years ago and was staying in what was considered a posh (for Blackpool!) place. Went to get into bed on the first night, lifted the duvet and the bottom sheet was absolutely covered in large scaly/scabby skin flakes.

Housekeeping were called, and immediately started to take off the bottom sheet, which caused all the skin flakes to fly up in the air. It was at that point I made it very clear I would not be staying in that room!

Just to add another level of weirdness to this tale, Boy George was sleeping in the bedroom next door...

You let guests sleep under a duvet cover used by someone else?

That is horrible. I hope one of your poor guests gives you a terrible review citing used bedding. I would be able to tell by the smell.

I don't need comments thanks. The OP asked for honest replies.
