If you work/run a hotel/Airbnb, do you ever skip changing the sheets/duvet cover cos' they look clean and you can't be arsed? Be honest! 😀

Stayed in a hotel at the weekend and this thought crossed my mind.
I think I would do this if they looked clean and it was only one night.

I’m pretty sure the cottage I just stayed in didn’t change the bottom pillow cases.

I always strip the bedding before I leave so they have to change it for the next person.

I do that too.

I once stayed in a place in the UK where I slept in my clothes on top of the covers as the whole place was rank so I doubt the sheets were clean. I wouldn't have stayed but we'd arrive very late after a long drive and it was in the middle of nowhere so not much choice. We left the next morning at the crack of dawn without showering as we didn't want to use the towels.
As an aside I do like white/ light towels and bedding in places I stay. I always wonder if those grey towels are covering a multitude of sins!

Years ago when I was a teen staying in a cheap hotel in Spain, I found a tooth under my pillow. Envy

TheDogsMother · 09/04/2023 16:10

No never ever and all are sent away to a professional laundry.

Windywuss · 09/04/2023 16:15

Pretty sure that the sheets were not fresh at the last holiday cottage I stayed at. They didn't smell or feel like they had just been laundered. It wasn't obviously dirty but I had my suspicions as we had only booked 4 nights and i wondered if they hadn't bothered after the weekend.

No, I worked in tourism for 15 years and I don’t know of any company where this happens- changing the beds is really basic and it would be immediately apparent to management that it wasn’t happening even if they weren’t physically there because of the changes in linen costs.

Most companies don’t change decorative blankets/bed runners/bedspreads each time.

I can only imagine it happening in a tiny bnb / privately run cottage etc

bigbluebus · 09/04/2023 16:52

I've just had back to back visitors. I went out and bought a 2nd lot of bedding for the guest room to speed up 'changeover'. No way would I leave bedding on the bed for a 2nd lot of guests although from a comment my SIL made once, I suspect that she has

StagsLeap · 09/04/2023 17:21

I worked as a chambermaid during my student days. I was pretty lazy (spent most of the time reading and taking short cuts), but always changed the bedlinen. Tbh, you couldn’t have got away with it — too obvious.

anyolddinosaur · 09/04/2023 17:21

I've sometimes been suspicious of towels- and deliberately ran water on them before we left so they would have to be changed. OTOH if staying more than one night we hang towels up to reuse but despite notices asking you to do that we frequently find we are given fresh ones.

Isanny · 09/04/2023 17:24

I used to work in a hotel where they didn't change the duvet covers between guests. It gave me the absolute boak but I wasn't in a position to change this. Anytime I had to cover housekeeping I changed them in the rooms I did.

CatsGinAndTwiglets · 09/04/2023 17:26

We stayed somewhere in Cornwall (b&b) and got dirty polyester sheets (like they’d forgotten we were coming) and the breakfast was take it or leave it- i don’t eat pork but there was no veggie option or at least an option for just the toast, eggs and beans without the sausage and bacon! Grim.

Schnooze · 09/04/2023 17:28

I clicked on this thinking I would regret it as I wouldn’t like it. Phew I’m pleasantly surprised.

AllTheChaos · 09/04/2023 19:19

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/04/2023 15:46

Nope. They were put out at having to provide clean sheets.

Noooo!!

AllTheChaos · 09/04/2023 19:22

@fussychica those grey towels definitely cover a multitude of sins, which is why I have them 😂 Luckily just for us tho, no paying guests!

BakedTattie · 09/04/2023 19:25

No never

AchillesElbow · 09/04/2023 19:51

A lot of Airbnbs don’t wash their towels properly, that’s for sure. They often stink after you get them damp.

lissie123 · 09/04/2023 19:54

i would always worry about scabies if sheets aren’t changed-grim

Milksheikha · 09/04/2023 19:57

In a hotel, I had the misfortune of finding a whole set of children's clothes including underwear and socks in foot of the bed I had already slept in . No way they had changed the sheets.

PassTheDuckie · 09/04/2023 19:59

There was a thread on here a couple of months ago (mother posting about tween son and younger daughter off to ex in laws, being made to sleep in used sheets, mostly being told she was being unreasonable and that kids don’t matter) where someone comments that they worked in a famous cheap rate chain hotel, and orders from on high said don’t change the sheets if you can get away with it.
ill attempt to find the post.

Always fling those cushions and throws in the wardrobe ...some probably go years without cleaning.

Firebrickred · 09/04/2023 20:03

My friend and her sister used to work in a hotel housekeeping as teenagers and would just febreeze the sheets between guests but leave them there, they tell it as a ‘funny’ anecdote now..

Absolutely not!

samthebordercollie · 09/04/2023 20:18

Never, everything was washed at 60C. I stayed in an Airbnb in Paris once and was high,y suspicious because the bed linen smelt of Febreeze 🤢- I didn't sleep well.

scoobydoo1971 · 09/04/2023 20:28

I run something like airbnb (holiday rentals). You have to change the beds between occupation as it may look ok, but in most instances it will have signs of occupations like stains, hairs or smells. In a world on online reviews of your property, it would be a basic first step to make sure the bedding is fresh, bathroom and kitchen are clean and everything is working as it should. I travel quite a bit, and have stayed in hotels and guest houses where the bedding has not been changed. I have slept on towels when check in was too late to find staff to rectify the matter. I do know someone who rents her caravan, and she tells me she just hoovers the sheets if they don't look bad. I think that is yuck!
