Do you buy your kids Easter eggs?

And if so how old are they?

Mine and nearly 2 and 4. I’ve never got them eggs and tbh I don’t really give them all that we get given. They get given so many 6+ each and they are only small. They get the odd one but they get so many. DH and I tend to scoff them instead… In fact I’m eating one right now.

I've got a small chocolate bunny for each of my DC (4, 1.5, 1.5). They each have a small toy or book too

My siblings will give them a small egg and my mum will too. It'll take them months to eat them, and last year my oldest didn't like any of the Easter eggs so they ended up in the bin or my belly

Well we’re all like minded so get along. We think we’re funny and I guess that’s what matters.

😬

Morningcoffeeview · 07/04/2023 21:51

@KeepYouForever why are you so determined to start a fight and be so rude to me over Easter eggs? Aren’t there more important things to be passionate about?

I feel so bad now. They couldn’t possibly eat them all! They do have chocolate but not that much, certainly not everyday.

Send them to me, I will eat them for you. Grin

Many things. But my brain is capable of thinking about more than one thing at once. 😉

Tbh you’d be doing me a favour. They’re too tempting and none of us need that much chocolate.

Yes but my DC are 16 and 12. DH has bought them both a fancy one in a tin from a chocolate shop near his workplace (quite shocked by him doing this as he often thinks chocolate is a waste of money, in fact I'm secretly thinking they may be off a client), they look pretty but I'm wondering if my DS (eldest) may prefer my Mum's Cadbury offerings!

Op, don't beat yourself up at eating their Easter eggs - can guarantee many other parents will be doing the same this weekend

I’m sure the ladies children won’t be scarred for life because their mum ate a bit of their chocolate.

Jesus Christ

I dunno, I can still remember the feeling of frustration and disappointment when my mum would pinch the fat from my lamb chops before I could eat it (and I’m now a 50 year old vegan now so it’s not like I’m actually fussed about the fat)

Yes, every year and we also have a chat about the meaning of Easter and what it represents.

Goldenbear · 07/04/2023 21:58

They are very young and sounds like lots of chocolate I wouldn't worry about eating a bit of it.

Oopswediditagain2023 · 07/04/2023 21:59

Yes we do an Easter egg hunt in the garden, but we also get Lego/Easter clothing too as a little gift (things they need or will keep them occupied during the holidays - not just for the sake of it!)
I would never ever eat my child's chocolate that someone had given them though. It lasts so long and we spread it out until probably Christmas!
We also get eggs for my nieces and nephews, the oldest being 20 😂 It's just a nice thing to do ❤️

Anycolouryoulike · 07/04/2023 21:59

FWIW I did eat the kids eggs if they didn't want them. They weren't that bothered about chocolate because I never made it a big deal. It was never a special treat. But I would never have just taken them and eaten them.

We usually ended up making rice crispie cakes with them.

Stompythedinosaur · 07/04/2023 22:00

Of course I do, surely most people do?

Please don't @Morningcoffeeview! Mine are 5 and 2, we don't buy them eggs. Grandparents get them loads (more than we'd like to be honest!) so we already ration out that chocolate to last a while. They get treats so we'd rather continue those than spend loads on overpriced choc.

mummabubs · 07/04/2023 22:03

Morningcoffeeview · 07/04/2023 21:14

that said. I barely got my 1 year old anything for Christmas because he has no idea. When they’re old enough to recognise who got what then I will make sure they get something from us. But they’re not there yet.

And we have the same take on Christmas as you too 😊 DD only got something this year as her older brother would have questioned why father Christmas didn't bring her anything.

ASixPackAndTheRadio · 07/04/2023 22:03

Yes, we get our kids eggs. They end up with lots and just eat them over the next couple of months.

You do sound a bit much OP. Just give them some now and again, they’ll get through it. If you stop kids eating chocolate it turns into a thing.

Disordered eating often starts with parents who are weird about food so relax.

My eldest isn’t fussed. He’ll open it and have a nibble, then leave it and forget about it. I say can I have it and he says yes. he’s the same at Christmas isn’t overly bothered if there’s tons of chocolates out.

My youngest loves it, hes much more into it but then far too small to be eating so much. He obviously has no idea what he gets from who.

It’s not forbidden fruit in our house but no, we don’t eat it everyday.

Q2C4 I wouldn't eat an Easter Egg that someone gave me for the DC but I do ration consumption - we still had some left at Christmas last year.

9 month old chocolate ! Why not eat your kids choc?? Donate to food bank instead maybe ?

It's still in date & will be eaten, so why would I give it away? Milk chocolate lasts for a least a year if stored properly.

nicetoseetgesunsout · 07/04/2023 22:04

And mine get so many that they take them to school and share them out.
I've asked family not to buy them but they still do. And the bloody money that my mum and dad give them is just insane. I asked her today why she is giving me, my sister and all of our children money - she said 'I like to'
She's not religious, it's bonkers! Oh and my sister has decorated her house with Easter stuff - wtf is that all about? She's got the poor dog bunny ears and sharing pics on FB. Decorated her whole house and garden. I'm there on Sunday which is lovely but I really don't get the whole Easter thing, unless you're religious.

Jesus Christ. They do “get” some chocolate. I’ve said it quite clearly.

They just don’t get it all and not daily. Because I intercept it and don’t agree daily chocolate is ok.

There’s a middle ground between absolutely loads and a rationed amount.

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 07/04/2023 22:05

I’ve always bought them an egg. They get quite a few from friends and family, maybe around 10 each which is a lot of chocolate! They love easter Sunday where they find the biggest Tupperware and smash up the eggs and put them all (or as much as will fit!) into the box.
when they were younger I definitely ate more than they did! I still share the chocolate from the box in the fridge even now to be honest 😂
We do a hunt too mainly for the benefit of my younger nieces and nephews who come round for it - mine are older now but still absolutely love it and ask if we are doing it every year!!

Stompythedinosaur · 07/04/2023 22:00

I don't - feels disingenuous to the giver and unfair to the DC somehow. If someone gave the DC money instead of an egg I wouldn't spend that on myself so why would I eat their egg? I appreciate others may see things differently.
