Sitting in the garden

Is anyone currently sitting in their garden? I am after doing some gardening and all I hear is the gentle rumble of traffic and birds? What can you hear?

Just the birds and my music. It’s a public holiday and no noise is allowed in my country.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 07/04/2023 15:49

Listening to Bach on my headphones and enjoying the warmth with a kindle.

Imridiculous · 07/04/2023 15:50

I’ve just come in. My cheeks are burning hot as I’ve been sitting reading a book.
I can hear some children playing in their garden, birds and the occasional car.

The (tiny) fountain splashing and the dog snuffling around in the lawn. it's very pleasant outside today.

ApplePippa · 07/04/2023 15:53

I can hear the incredibly cute six-year-old twins who live next door playing out on the street. They're discussing whether or not they'll be allowed to get the water bazookas out.

WashAsDelicates · 07/04/2023 16:04

Our neighbour has just finished pruning his trees where they grow over our fence. He was using a chainsaw, so the noise was hideous for a couple of hours. Now he's finished, the piece and quite sense even more peacefully quite by comparison. Birds, the occasional aeroplane, children playing in more distant gardens. It's just lovely.

At some point I have to stir myself and go sweep up the prunings. Conifers, so I'm telling myself that it's going to smell lovely. Unfortunately Covid has stolen my sense of smell.

Sillysop92 · 07/04/2023 16:09

Just the boom boom of a distant neighbour's music. I've swept the patio ready for DH to power wash it over the weekend. Early morning I can usually hear birds and the squirrels chasing each other.

We had family come over late morning and we sat outside in warm sunshine. Then, when they had left, we had lunch outside. What a treat after all the cold and rain.

cobblers123 · 07/04/2023 16:12

Bloody neighbour's dog barking so I've had to come in so am having a glass of Cava.

Was lovely doing the garden though earlier.

alabamathunderpussy · 07/04/2023 16:30

F'ing neighbours terrible music. Same playlist as always. Ruining the outside for everyone

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/04/2023 18:04

We sat out in the sun earlier - me, dh and a dd.

Despite v small garden with neighbours close on both sides (but no kids) no noise except birds - cheeping, and a woodpecker busy drilling into a tree somewhere near.

Next door was mowing his lawn with the football results on the radio quite low. Bit of traffic noise since the council are digging holes again backing the traffic up past our house but nothing intolerable. I'm fairly immune to traffic noise as we could hear the M1 in the distance in the old house and hear the trains going by - which I actually found kind of comforting and struggled when the noise stopped during lockdowns.

Change from our old house where one guy would have had Shit Builder FM blaring and power tools going and the other side would have pressure washed the shit out of anything and everything (even the little concrete squirrel garden ornament gets it) and now be BBQing with the music blaring and chatting loudly while burning meat and playing darts half naked in the garden (and it's not a pretty sight). Out the back would have the bifold doors open and be playing their sodding ukelele and singing loud as well - the garden noise almost broke me on multiple occasions over the years.

I'm in the summerhouse in my garden as there is a bit of a breeze so despite being sunny it is deceptively cool. The doors are wide open though and as well as the radio playing on my speaker I can hear next door cutting their grass, some kids playing in the street, someone cutting wood or whatever he does in his workshop and, of course, the birds in the trees and bushes.

The doors are wide open and you’re playing your radio on a speaker?!

I also never knew so many people lived near fields and tractor and horses 😊

You must be so happy you moved. Enjoy the warmer weather where you can now relax

I have been at my allotment 9 to 3. The loudest thing thing I heard was excited sheep who had just been turned out in the adjacent field. "Where the fuck are we, we'be been abducted " they bleated. Eventually one of them baa'd "who the hell cares, its grass, lets eat it" and all I could hear was chewing.

Around 2.30 , owner of next door allotment arrived and conducted a long friendly conversation with eye contact , in his very soft mumbly voice. I am not deaf but could only hear every 10th word. Garlic. Greenhouse. DH is very deaf, and just carried on working oblivious. At the end of his long mumble neighbour says clearly "Don't worry if you hear me talking to myself, I do it all the time".
Fuck; was he not talking to me?
So I replied cheerily "I won't mind, and DH is so deaf he won;t even notice".

I feel deeply sorry for you, I’ve had to endure this kind of thing too. Our sometimes- noisy neighbours have been out today 👏so it’s been a blissfully quiet afternoon of intermittent sunshine while soothed by birdsong and the inevitable wood pigeons

EmotionallyUnavailableGuacamole · 07/04/2023 18:45

All our neighbours will have been able to hear is DS having the time of his life playing noisily outside. I’d feel bad for them but it makes a change from the 17 hours of barking we normally get from their dog.

IhearyouClemFandango · 07/04/2023 18:48

Birds.
Kids playing.
Odd crackle from bonfire

Cherrysoup · 07/04/2023 18:48

I was out for ages earlier doing a bit of gardening, playing with the dogs, just enjoying the sun. Our garden gets the sun all afternoon. It’s one of the reasons we bought the place.

Imridiculous · 07/04/2023 18:56

@EmotionallyUnavailableGuacamole I LOVE hearing children playing in their gardens. I’d far rather hear children than some selfish twats music, or the yappy dog from next door.

toomuchlaundry · 07/04/2023 19:05

Currently sitting on the patio, slight rumble of holiday traffic in the background and tweeting of birds

The summerhouse doors were wide open, yes. The radio was playing in there on the speaker connected to my phone. Why the surprise?

Vitriolinsanity · 08/04/2023 19:46

Oh dear @MyMachineAndMe this is MN and sound, other than children larking and the clicking of needles weaving lentils is verboten.

Now that the Police have finally fucked off in their beloved chopper I can hear a robin singing (I can see him, not because I'm Bill Oddie) and my dog snoring. There's a bonfire nearby which isn't unpleasant.

Vitriolinsanity · 08/04/2023 19:47

Oh and next doors water fountain that sounds like a chap with a prostate problem.

Suzi888 · 08/04/2023 19:48

Shopping, lunch then the garden. Birds tweeting. Nothing else apart from DD bouncing on her trampoline for half hour.
