What time do your 7/8 year olds go to bed and how many hours sleep?

Dd is 7, nearly 8 and goes to sleep about 9 - 9.15 and wakes around 7.30am on school days (my other child is up at 5am but dd sleeps through him being up 😂). Sometimes at the weekend she’ll sleep longer. She’s not a morning person.

so that’s around 10 hours. How do your 7/8 year olds sleep?

we bumped into a parent of a friend of dd who’s similar age. When I told her dd didn’t go asleep until 9 she tutted and turned her nose up and said her LO goes to sleep at 6.30pm at 8 years old and was shocked dd stays up to late.

both my kids have Sen an out routine is very strict and works well for us, even if it’s not particularly early sleep time.

to add, dd goes upstairs to her bedroom about 7-7.30pm, she often chills in her room for an hour or so before sleep!

just interested to know the norm!

My 7 yr old dd is anytime between 7pm and 8pm. A little later at weekends and on Beavers night. She almost always wakes up at 6am/615am what ever time she goes to bed and rarely sleeps longer. So for example on holiday and allowed to stay up later 9pm. Still awake at 6am. All this means is that she is tired due to less sleep and her behaviour gets hard to handle - hard to regulate emotions, poor choices, more likely to fall/have an accident/hurt herself and have a meltdown.

The very rare times she sleeps in are always school mornings rather than the weekend to benefit us! 😁

6.30 would be very hard, you'd have to be having dinner at about 5! I do this with my toddler and even then after cleaning up etc even they don't usually get to their cot til 7pm as much as I try and hurry!

It totally depends on the child and how much sleep they need. I do think 6:30pm is very early though.
