Are most people going on hols over Easter half term?

i mean even if it’s in this country?

No, we always go at summer half term. I’ve got a couple of days off to make this weekend even longer - DS and I went to the cinema and lunch today, and we’ll go on a daytrip one day as well.

Enjoying that most people are answering more to point out it isn't half-term than answering the question. The pedantry is both pleasing and entirely appropriate!

Well, I keep seeing people talking about all vacs being rebranded as ‘halfterms’ on here — I’m not in the UK so it’s not happening anywhere in my RL. I’m fascinated - why?

Just laziness. People not thinking about the words they use and that half-term means halfway through a term. Someone just talked about summer half-term FFS.

It is somewhat annoyingly confused by my part of England redefining the school year as 6 rather than 3 terms so we get half-term between terms 1 and 2 etc. Stupid LEA.

No, DS1 is revising for his A levels but also we can't even afford a summer holiday, let alone an extra one at Easter!

MadMadMadamMim · 06/04/2023 19:20

No. We can't afford to. We won't be going on holiday in the summer either.

You're not alone. I've not been on holiday for about 5 years and that was paid for by my in-laws. Before that, it was 10 years ago.

But then again, when I was a kid there wasn't the expectation to go on holiday all the time and besides I've travelled the world. I do miss the warmth though...

Laiste · 06/04/2023 19:36

No.

And of the .... <adds it up> ... 9 families i know with kids - none of them are going away either.

Mincepieeyes22 · 06/04/2023 19:40

We're going to the south coast for 2 nights but Sun & Mon night which was half the price of Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun

SparkyBlue · 06/04/2023 19:42

No we are not we've had a lovely time so far with an egg hunt today and there is lots of lovely things like family catch ups planned over the next few days . I am always amazed as to where people get the annual leave from as they then usually head away in the summer as well and often for mid term at Halloween .

gingercat02 · 06/04/2023 19:44

Yes but UK and just for 5 days

whoruntheworldgirls · 06/04/2023 19:54

No, waiting until May this year, in the past though we would normally be away at Easter.

Buttalapasta · 06/04/2023 19:56

Yes, but only for 3 days. Last minute decision, self catering.

Oneborneverydecade · 06/04/2023 19:58

We're spending the long weekend in Wales
I've been surprised by the number of Dd's friends going away. We've had Lisbon, Rome, CPs and Spain mentioned so far

Cornwallinthesun · 06/04/2023 19:58

Just come back from our holiday. Woop

RudsyFarmer · 06/04/2023 20:01

Most of the people I know are but we haven’t. Im not even sure we’ll go away over summer to be honest.

YellowGreenBlue · 06/04/2023 20:01

DC2 and DC3 are away on a school ski trip. DH, DC1 and I aren't going away, unless you count a night with the in laws as a holiday I don't

Trinity65 · 06/04/2023 20:04

Well not a holiday as such but it will be nice

Going to DMs with my eldest DC on Saturday and we are having lunch in a Restaurant by the Sea on Easter Sunday followed by a walk on the pier, weather pending.
Home BH Monday.

Lisbeth50 · 06/04/2023 20:05

ffs does it matter about the half term easter holidays thing!

Well, it was slightly confusing 😕

TheChosenTwo · 06/04/2023 20:07

Surprised that some are saying they’re not going away because dc have exams in a couple of months time! That would absolutely not stop me going away on holiday ever!
But no, we haven’t gone away this Easter, I’m taking Thursday and Tuesday as leave so I’ve got an extra long weekend to spend with the dc, we are going away on holiday in the May half term and during the summer holidays and will hopefully have a UK break somewhere in the October half term.
I do know quite a few that have gone away at Easter though.

OzempicClicker · 06/04/2023 20:10

No.

Gandalfsdaughter · 06/04/2023 20:10

5 days in the Lakes - I love it here, and we’ve booked cheap self catering accommodation so we could afford it. Not the most luxurious hols but so glad my 2 teens still enjoy hiking up the mountains with a pack up.

ExtremelyDetermined · 06/04/2023 20:11

Yes for a few days in the UK. Haven't been able to for the last three years because of covid and DCs working for exams and there will be more exams next year so it was a good opportunity.

FawnFrenchieMum · 06/04/2023 20:14

Nope, we usually go a few days either camping or caravan depending on the weather but both kids have revision sessions over the holidays (one for GCSEs and one for SATs) so staying at home and have booked to go abroad as soon as exams are finished.

DeathMetalMum · 06/04/2023 20:16

We are going away but don't usually.

Dd2 only broke up today and is off school for 4 days only not including bank holidays. Next holidays we have two weeks. A few years ago we had 'spring break' and a long Easter Bank Holiday a few weeks earlier or later I can't quite remember. It feels like half term more than holidays for us as the break is so short.
